This is for the academy only. The weight of the cops grows exponentially as soon as they complete the academy. Make cops pass this test every year. Then I will be impressed.

Apparently there’s a lot of petty jealousy out there, judging from the negative comments. First, this test is NOT only for entrance and exit from the academy. It is also applied to officers annually after the academy. I know this because I wrote the section of the union contract that applied this to officers ongoing. Also, at the time this test was developed, there were exactly ZERO local law enforcement agencies nationwide with a physical ability test applied to ongoing officers. Yes, zero. We were the only agency able to get agreement from the police union. I would bet this is still true.

Don't bother with FWPD if you've ever tried drugs. I was honest about my usage from 19 years ago and they nixed me even though I had great time on my physical fitness test and came in second out of several hundred on written test. System also appears bias against anyone over a certain age.

You can have assault charges but if you ever smoked a joint. Don't bother applying. Anger management issues are not a deal breaker. It is a requirement. From some of the bellies I have seen on cops pt is not a requirement. Just a mild suggestion.

Why don’t you ask mossad and the CIA why they test the exact same thing? Because intense physical effort leaves you with very limited control over fine motor movements. Like pulling a trigger. They need to know that you can effectively fire your weapon when exhausted. Most of you on this thread can’t.

Not a very strenous course at all but do this outside in the heat or whatever elements which is where most duties will take place! Being gung ho which equates to a decent conditioning at the beginning is easy, staying there is where depts need to focus. Seems that the longer one is a cop, the more out of shape and larger they become. Some have guts hanging over, unsat! And we know that huffin and puffin is worthless for accuracy. Keep the mind and body fit! Its your job so that when it comes time to protect innocent lives aka doing your job and staying true to oath, one is confident enough to carry out their duties in harm's way.
