For the record, the state of your braces is completely overshadowed by how amazing you are at teaching the MATH. I cannot believe how easy you just made this whole thing. My textbook teaches like my dad tried to teach me when I was in school many, many years ago. He just looked at the equation and knew the answer. Show the work? What work? I am one of the unlucky people not born with a brain that unravels all these letters and numbers without a little hand-holding. So, thanks for holding my hand here. :)

You know I gotta say since watching these video's I've been much more confident with math, which is a very big thing for me Considering I've always considered myself math illiterate ever since the 4th grade when they introduced us to that chicago math. Needless to say the teacher didn't quite explain it well enough and my 'rents couldn't help me and so confidence in more complexe numbers other than basic multiplication division and addition and subtraction. plummeted. But now I'm going back to school for my diploma and dealing with these numbers and I'm getting confidence back in my ability to solve the problems

Devlin Graham Yeah, it's definitely one of those math things that must be used sometimes. When grouping numbers and operators, brackets and braces mean the same. However, when writing solutions to problems and other notations in math, braces take on a specific meaning. It's a matter of syntax. Thanks 4 your support!

Hey Mr. Whitt, the problem #4 when +2 to both terms in order to get 0. then -11+2 should equal -9 but you put -11 still, is that right? Or any reason? I am curious.
@FortBendTutoring8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I wrote the result correctly. I'm not combining -11 and 2, I'm combining -11x and 2. Since they are unlike terms, I write them next to each other as -11x + 2.

@THEQuantumPolkaDots11 жыл бұрын
Something that threw me off, and i am not sure if it even matters, was that you said you can always tell how many solutions there will be by the highest exponent. but i learned it as you would know how many solutions by the amount of terms. But anyways, I love this video. I love how you had so many examples for different scenarios. I will definitely sub it and watch others. I love your way of doing it. It is more clear to me. Thanks so much for this!!! Btw, what app is that???
@FortBendTutoring11 жыл бұрын
The app is called Penultimate. The video is correct, the variable's highest exponent is the number of solutions. For instance, 4x - 3x + 7 = 13 has one answer because the highest exponent on x is 1 even though there are 4 terms. Thanks for your comment!

In problem #4 you added 2 to both sides -11x = -2.... Shouldn't the negative eleven have become a -9x? What am I missing? The process makes sense though so I like the way you're showing it because it simplifies to the next step. Thanks again Mr. Whitt!
@FortBendTutoring7 жыл бұрын
+john burens No, -11x and 2 are unlike terms and can not be combined.
@johnburens33957 жыл бұрын
I misunderstood what you were doing until later. By bringing over the term to isolate zero on the other side of the equal sign. After re-working the problem it is clear now. Thanks

How come for problem 3 you say not to divide by x (which worked for me), yet on problem 6 you do divide by x? Also on problem 6, does it matter which side of the equation you make zero? Another words could you have used - 2x^3 + 9x^2 - 4x?
@FortBendTutoring6 жыл бұрын
When the equation is set to zero, dividing by x will eliminate a solution in some but not all situations. I could have explained that part better.
@ChampDarius-10 жыл бұрын
On problem #3 5 was the GCF because 35 was divisible by 5 but what if it wasn't like what if it was 2 and 15 there isn't a GCF besides 1?
@FortBendTutoring10 жыл бұрын
If the problem was written as you stated, then the GCF would be "x". You wouldn't divide everything by "x", but you would factor it out to get x(2x - 15) = 0 and complete the process.

Mr. Whitt, isn't the highest degree in a quadratic equation supposedly two, to acknowledging it as a quadratic equation? Just confirming sir.

@FortBendTutoring4 жыл бұрын
Plug your answers into the original equation. Does it make a true statement?
@venitocamelo67044 жыл бұрын
@@FortBendTutoring i just tried to do it but i think i did it wrong since neither mine or yours were right , my answers or roots were m=7/9 and m= - 2/7 , i tired to multiply m=(7/9)^2 * 63 and -31(-2/7) - 10 = 0 but i did not work out then i tried your answers on the same way but they did not end up equal to zero either .
@FortBendTutoring4 жыл бұрын
You don’t plug them both in at the same time. Only use one for every variable to see if it equals zero. Then, try the other separately in the same original equation.
@FortBendTutoring4 жыл бұрын
Another way to tell your answer isn’t correct is to multiply the first and last coefficient together. Does it equal the product of -49 and 18? I used -45 and 14 and that product does equal to the product of 63 and -10.
