Castlevania is one of those rare games that infuriates you to rage quitting and makes you want to rethink what you do with your free time.....but then 30 minutes later, you're back at it again. It walks that fine line between challenging and frustrating
@Fortefyre

A hallmark of a good game that is difficult that makes you rage quit, is the desire to return to it, the thought process of how you will attack it when you're holding the controller again.

I'll give a mention to Mega Man 3 and Kirby's Adventure The former for managing to be good just like with Mega Man 2, introducing sliding, giving us Rush and his jet form, and incorporating Proto Man. Also a rare case of an incomplete game still managing to be a worthwhile experience. As for Kirby's Adventure, thanks to it being designed for beginners it has aged better than multiple other NES titles. The soundtrack is generally nice for NES standards, one of the graphically best looking NES games, it introduced enemy absorbed abilities for this series, and getting a game over lets you resume from the level HUB the level resides in. Besides, it's an overall improvement over Kirby's Dream Land.

Just found your channel. I love this video, it feels very like old KZbin for some reason. I've only played 1942 in arcades but I should give it a try on the NES. I went on your channel so I could see what other videos you already did so maybe your next top 10 could be SNES, Gamecube, or really anything Nintendo related. If you wanted to try something different, maybe PS2, Dreamcast, or Saturn. Or even Genesis/Mega Drive. All of those would be interesting. Or even like a Japanese-only list, maybe no RPGs or text heavy games unless there's rom translations lol. Anyways, subbed!

I played all the way through Bionic Commando in the arcade. It's a real quarter muncher in the later stages. A few years later I stumbled across the NES version over at a friends house. I didn't know there was a home port of the game. Initially I didn't care for it because it was so different from the arcade, but after a few hours I fell it love with it - and it's one of my favs on the NES. Pirates is one of my favorite games of all times (I've played it along with Pirates Gold and the newest one with the dancing) but I've never played it on the NES. I'll check it out... the sword fighting on the NES looked better than the button mashing mess on other platforms. Does it have the sun sighting mechanic to calculate your longitude?
@Fortefyre
@Fortefyre 11 ай бұрын
It does have the sextant method with the sun, but I never tended to use it personally. I kind of cheated, by the time I was old enough to enjoy it, someone had already made a fairly detailed map that layed out what settlements were available on Gamefaqs! But that being said, the only big difference between Pirates! on the NES and Pirates! Gold is a major graphical overhaul. I did do a series slayer about all of the games if you want to check it out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmPUe2yedr5qjbc

The obvious ones are Zelda, Zelda II, Super Mario Bros 1-3, etc. However, I'll give an answer to the question while leaving off those games. Mike Tyson's Punchout is head and shoulders above most games, today or otherwise. Dragon Warrior is an awesome first attempt from Enix. Contra is pure adrenaline and awesome good fun. Turtles II the Arcade game is a truly awesome and unique game. One to be played with a friend, over and over. Wizards and Warriors is an underrated gem. Metroid was a game seemingly ahead of its time. Kung Fu is fun personified. Final Fantasy also knocked a home run out of the park with the first game. R.C. Pro-am is high octane to the nth degree. Golf is a HIGHLY overlooked gem that can motivate people to slice off just one more stroke, even more so than other games. A few more gems... Super Spike V'Ball Tiger-Heli is a very well done shooter with the only disadvantage is not having an end. Rygar Guerilla War Rad Racer Ninja Gaiden II Karate Kid (yes... Karate Kid) Operation Wolf Adventure of Lolo Jackal and so many more. I've played and finished (if the game let you) over 500 NES games. I own over 650 and absolutely love the NES.

The MSX2 version of Metal Gear is better. While I like the original Mega Man better than 4 and 5, however, it's rough around the corners. Especially since Mega Man will slide around on all surfaces, the rooms right before the boss have enemies, you need the Magnet Beam to be able to traverse through the first Wily Fortress area, and there's no E Tanks. Castlevania 3 is the best out of the three. It's actually Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest that's the worst.

Mega Man 2 harder than MM1? That's a take I've never heard. MM2 is much more accessible and beatable IMO, and the best game in the franchise. Still, you made a great video. As a child of the 80's/90's, it brings back so many solid memories.

I needed 30 years to finally beat Mega Man 1 (still used the pause trick to beat the Yellow Devil). It's not the most difficult NES game I've beaten, but it is the one I'm most proud of. While Mega Man 3 is objectively superior (more moves, more variety, more stages, bosses, etc., etc., like Castlevania III is a lot more advanced than Castlevania)... I just like MM2 more. I'll play it and original Castlevania several times more than the 3rd entry. I think you can objectively look at game x and say it's better than game y, but still prefer game y any day of the week.

Come on men, you really suck then, 30 years to beat Mega Man, I would understand if it was Battleroads, but Mega Man. As for Castlevania, I totally agree with you, original Castlevania has nothing on 3.

I'm not a big fan of NES games in general. For as much "quality control" that Nintendo demanded, they sure let some stinkers through.

@@Fortefyre The only thing the Seal of Quality meant was that the publisher paid the licensing fee to Nintendo and the game didn't contain boobs, religion, or the ability to microwave a hamster. All of my friends had an NES before I did, so by the time I was getting mine I had already played Super Mario Brothers a lot and decided to get a control deck only along with a separate game. I wanted Castlevania but it was out of stock. There were no online reviews so I would have to make a blind purchase...OH CRAP...what if I picked something horrible like Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde??? I agonized and finally rolled the dice on a game I had never heard of and hoped for the best. My first NES game was...MEGA MAN 2!!! Needless to say I was happy with my choice. The only bad part was there was nowhere to go from there but down. In my opinion, the only games on the same level were SMB3 and Mega Man 3.
