The weirdest thing about this update is that the game was always entirely about guns being mainly advertised as a battle royal but now they're censoring any gun or knife in game. keep in mind creative mode has been out for 5 years at this point and just now they're trying to do this "necessary evil"? I don't know what part of this update is supposed to protect kids because a big part of the fanbase for the longest time are kids with ages ranging from 6-10 and even then they could just lie about their age or in other cases watch streamers or creators play the battle royal modes. also, do cartoon guns and cartoonish looking monsters THAT scary to a 7 year old to the point that even the adult players themselves can't see the cosmetic they payed ACTUAL MONEY for? I don't know about y'all but this game is becoming more and more like Roblox for me and i think most people would agree with me that this isn't a good thing.

The weirdest thing restricted in my opinion has to be the “Rise of the Revenant” music pack that goes with Kado Thorne. I really hope Epic changes this so only accounts that are under age are effected by this after the major backlash from the community over this change.

I’d argue that the female statue skin is also not wearing a whole lot? But I don’t really see nudity legitimately being an issue in fortnite skins. Personally I don’t think this really was a thing fortnite needed to do randomly, they probably should have looked into it a lot more and been more prepared to do it so that they didn’t have to moderate cosmetics (like had updated skins in advance, for example). It’s a lot of work but ultimately more than constantly having to moderate things

It actually isn't anymore. They changed it. It just says parental guidance recommended. But still the fact a game where you fight with guns and was rated a 12 (I'm from the UK) and wasn't meant for kids is getting skins, emotes, loading screens and all of that restricted for having guns and knives in them, like come on bro

But the cosmetics aren't restricted on those modes ? Even though some maps have the wrong age restrictions now, eventualy it will be fixed. Fortnite don't want to be seen as a battle royal game anymore, but rather as a game plateforme with multiple experiences possible aiming for diffents audiences. The battle royal don't aim to be family friendly, you can still have your stuff when you play it. If you don't like maps where you have to choose a diffent skin to play it, then just don't ?

Here's how the update works for everyone confused The maps with an E or E10+ rating don't let you pick the blocked cosmetics no matter how old you are. that's why everyone is mad about it. it's not like you can use them if you are old enough, they just flat out blocked them to all sub T rated maps

Epic has lost their mind. why are loading screens restricted when we're the only ones that can see them? maybe they plan on releasing skins/items that use loading screens I would've understood if they made them invisible/inaccessible to accounts of players under 12, but it makes no sense to restrict them otherwise

They should have made this a parental conteol setting for individual accounts to prevent them from seeing these cosmetics instead of punishing everyone. Its already something they can do anyways, it makes no sense for it not to be client side.

Incredible breakdown on the situation Lachlan! My real issue with the rating on maps and skins is that i have parental controls set up on my childs account(voice and friend restrictions). With the new "Map Ratings" my kid cant play the BR mode, which is required to complete seasonal challenges, and was changed mid-season after people had purchased the Battle Pass. Basically it removes the ability for anyone to complete the battle pass if they have parental restrictions on their accounts.. Epic really needs to revert this change.

Revert their parental control for now, and just keep an eye on them and their account. You can view who adds them on their account when they aren’t playing or on epic. And just teach him not to automatically trust someone, and a lot of the times it will pair him with same age group. It’s different for everyone I get it. But my personal experience, with online gaming and chat was on a 360, and I played all the old call of duty games. I have heard every insult and trash talk possible. At first it might get to you, and a kid BUT, if you talk to them there’s so many ways to asses the situation. The easiest way is to just leave the game, and just not deal with it. Or you can talk to them about what they can say back, like you can talk to them about appropriate come backs to say. And explain when it’s appropriate and stuff. And I guarantee they will build that tolerance and be able to understand the internet better. And if someone’s being rude or being a creep they know how to handle that situation. And when I was younger and first got my gaming system I wasn’t able to cuss or anything like that. But my parents had that mutual trust of not trusting people on internet and know what to do about it. And if not then come talk to them and they would handle it. So it affected me at first but I started trash talking back. And that’s just how it is. Gaming is a sport too. Like if someone’s saying he’s trash at the game for example, (idk his age or how you handle things) but maybe have him say “no I’m not your trash” or stuff that’s appropriate. Yk stuff to throw back. And if it’s fortnite or call of duty or anything, Most of the time the lobby gets switched after every game so new players. Then they most likely won’t ever be in a game with them again. It’s all what you feel comfortable and how much you trust your little kiddo 🩷

This is the update that's gonna kill Fortnite for a lot of people. My main concern as a map creator is that not many people are gonna wanna play maps if they can't use the skins they like. Like say you main a skin like Midas or Ragsy or something, if you can't use that skin then the chances of you playing a map where you can't use it is gonna be decreased so therefore, creators like me aren't gonna have as many people playing the map. I also worry about fashion shows, I love playing fashion shows but the whole point of fashion shows is to show off your cosmetics. If you can't use some of your cosmetics, then what's the point of playing it? Same with other maps

The only logical option if they were doing this would be a settings age *visual lock.* so like you could wear the skin, but the kid accounts saw u as a default in game. Instead of restricting the original INTENDED AUDIENCE of T+ 🙄

I don’t think the pg rating on the female skins (as opposed to the male skins) has much to do with the ammo belts or guns and more to do with the amount of skin showing. I’d be willing to bet that is the reason for it.

Has this world really become this soft? Now younger kids can't even play BR? You're telling me, my main skin Jellie, is not safe for kids under 12? LMFAO those same kids play f**kin' CoD zombies for crying out loud. The kids can handle VIRTUAL SKINS. Jellie is my favorite skin. This legitimately might be the worst update possible. Default season loading screen being gone, dozens of other things, gone. Utter garbage update. I never thought I'd be jumping on the hate train, but I am now, because this update is easily the worst update in the game's history. It doesn't even affect me too, but I'm putting myself in the position of the majority of the playerbase. I don't even want to know how pissed they are.

Dude, the guns and ammo, the bows and quiver with arrows, the grenades, the swords, etc. are some of the best accoutrements on skins! I want the weapons on my skins! All of these kids have play guns at home, it's a nightmarish orwellian attempt to control and censor and it is idiotic. It is an indicator of our pathetic world, and it is a slippery slope. Once this starts, it is only going to get worse. This crap ruins art and videogames when you do this junk. Let parents be the parents, epic needs to chill. It's a freaking battle royale... There 5 years too late for these age restrictions and it annoys me so much that they are slowly drifting away from a battle royale game to a bloody roblox / meta verse game. Like I didn't spend all this money on fortnite to play a roblox knockoff with worse restrictions than fortnite china. I can't even play as jelly anymore. But i usually play battle royale anyway so im not to affected by it. The only problem i have is the direction there going with it.

You cant sell a product and expect people not to use that product? they are out of there mind with this update what happened to it being a parents job to monitor the games there kids play? i mean i grew up on animal crossing, nba street etc, my parents didnt want me playing halo, call of duty, gta i didn t play them til years later and if this really "needed to happen" then should be released when its complete and u can use your skin and if people dont like it they can see you as a default but punishing your players that are literally paying you its ridiculous.
