It's too late now, but it would have probably been best to wait a few more days to make this video. Right now, the game is a "classic" season, with the map from 5 years ago designed with UE4 has the focus. When the Chapter 6 map releases, it should look substantially better, with locations and materials designed to take full advantage of the full UE5 feature set.

@AlovonАй бұрын
@xXJuanRocksXx Fortnite doesn't really deploy major changes until Chapter Releases. And in my experience Lumen appears about as noisy as ever on PC. It's like how Chapter 3 was UE5 but didn't use any of the features and instead of updating to 5.1 in a season they made that a Chapter Update and then enabled lumen.etc. Anyway in the gameplay trailer for C6 there appears to be a lot more occlusion and stable occlusion at that versus any scene I've seen in the PC version which indicates updates have been deployed (beyond the character models having a lot more detail in the trailer which maybe a indication of Skinned Mesh Character Nanite being engaged)

My PC is set up for No RT & epic distance and epic textures etc. It really looks amazing when you can see someone running around and they're probably 12 pixels tall on a 4k panel. The lack of trees and foliage was so cut back i was able to set my PC settings to Medium view distance to get what the PS5 delivers. Medium -> High -> Ultra -> Epic. That's 4 levels of distance options the PS5 pro traded away for hardware RT. The Software option in motion was more than enough for the visuals in fortnite. Its hurting for View distance in that giant map. Never really noticed it when i was playing my PS5 OG but once i got the PC back? It's a generational leap in terms of distant LOD's. There's no advantage since they'd take minutes to even walk to enemies but it blends in the entire scene so much better than the defused glow of the RT Lumen and rare occasions at water for reflections. Honestly i can't be the only dude who tried two platforms and noticed this either. Epic could easily integrate a No RT High Lod/Less Culling option and make HW RT un selectable as an option. Even the Base PS5 i feel they could get far better LOD's by disabling software RT effects replacing them with screenspace and standard AO as they did in the PS4 version. I'd be screaming for it if i was a Pro Owner. I only came around to this video to find out the comparable settings!

I wouldn't say only custom engines, since Stellar Blade and FF7 Rebirth are some of the standout Pro enhanced titles making use of PSSR, both running on UE4. Lords of the Fallen turned out pretty good too as a UE5 title. But in general, yeah, use the most suitable software and hardware tools you have available. And try to keep the target platforms in mind, to begin with so you don't end up with rendering methods that don't scale well. @corey_masseyАй бұрын
They where too busy trying to convince people that the game looked worst on PS5 pro than base PS5. They also don't mention that both quality and performance modes output at a higher resolution and at higher overall settings than the base PS5. They, like most of the internet saw a bug with the original SH2 build and decided to make that bug the entire narrative of the game on Pro rather than talking about all of the other features that were added....and of course when that bug was patched (literally the day after they made thier video) they put a few singular comments about it being patched in a video and kept it moving. The irony here is that checking the actual patch notes for SH2, Bloober and Konami make no mention of PSSR being in the game or about them taking it out. They state simply that they improved the visuals of the game on PS5 pro. DF has built this entire channel on describing those improvements, but only highlight the improvements that fit within a message that aligns with the talking points of their core online community. Its perhaps for this reason that we are 3 weeks into the PS5 pro lifecycle and they haven't even scratched the surface of the improvements across the range of 50+ games that are enhanced on the PS5 pro.
@AI-AITUMАй бұрын

@corey_massey Where I can read about all the improvements? Is there a reddit post or something? If Digital Foundry can't get a comparison video right, then I don't think anyone else on KZbin has.
@corey_masseyАй бұрын
@@DrJones20 So basically I was able to put together that the game has been enhanced by looking at all of the analysis videos and tracking the objective information in each....so if you watch the first Silent Hill 2 analysis videos it serves as a baseline because the game has recieved a very limited amount of patches. Basically SH2 ran at dynamic resolution scaling with the 2 modes. In quality mode it ran between 1224p and 1512p. In Performance mode the game ran between 864p and 1152p. Both modes use software lumen for reflections and GI and upscale to 4k using UE5 upscaler TSR. What is interesting here is in watching the PS5 pro comparisons to base PS5, DF says the game output for base PS5 is higher than these figures to dramatize the downgrade message, but what they don't tell you is that when using Dynamic resolution scaling the game will drop resolution first in order to maintain the framerate, and when you consider how frequent the game drops frames on base PS5, the reality is the game is more consistently running at the bottom of the DRS range than the top of that range. This is interesting because when you look at the 1.05 analysis video you see that the developer opts for a fixed resolution of 1080p in quality mode and 900p in performance mode. While on the surface these numbers seem lower than the DRS range of the base PS5, it is also important to note that the the Pro version is significantly more stable and holds to the 30fps and 60fps target better than the base PS5. It is also important to note that when you watch that 1.05 video DF says that the ambient occlusion setting is higher using the 1.05 patch. So it's reasonable to assert that the game is running better than the base PS5 and using higher settings. Now let's address the flickering issue which was a problem using the 1.05 patch. Again going back to that first analysis video DF notes of the base PS5 version that the game has flickering in both modes using TSR. This is important because it shows that the flickering was not introduced by patch 1.05 and subsequently was not caused by PSSR. So even if the game was using PSSR, PSSR couldn't be the cause of an issue that existed before it was being used. If anything patch 1.05 made the flickering more noticeable but according to DF it was very noticeable in the base PS5 version, so take that information however you want. At any rate, if you look at the video describing the 1.06 patch you will see that DF says that they fixed the flickering by reverting back to the TRX solution of the base PS5 in the performance mode but not the quality mode. This is important because we see in the 1.05 patch video that DF does an unpatched performance mode comparison between the game in a completely unpatched state to the game with the 1.05 patch. In this comparison video the unpatched game is running the DRS of the base PS5 version with no increased ambient occlusion, and yet here in the 1.06 patch they mention that the game is running at a higher resolution than the fixed 900p of patch 1.05 (they mention 1008p) but also that the Lumen GI is less aggressive across both base PS5 and PS5 pro. This would suggest that they cannot have simply reverted back to base PS5 settings with patch 1.06 because the game is still using the fixed resolution of patch 1.05 and the software RT GI is now softer on base PS5 and PS5 pro. Where things get interesting is in the claim that PSSR is the cause of the games image quality issues. The first thing that jumps out is the fact that bloober is implementing its PS5 patches and PC patches with single updates, meaning that the 1.05 patch and the 1.06 patch are the same across all platforms the game is on. The question here is why would Bloober have an addition like PSSR in a patch for PC, or even for base PS5. Again it's important to note that according to DF both modes use TSR on base PS5 at launch. What is interesting here is that nowhere in Blobbers patch notes does it even mention PSSR, and the oddity here is that PSSR is Sony's new AI upscaler and they have had this thing plastered on every game that uses it, except this one. Not only that, but the expectation of belief here is that Bloober stealth patched in PSSR and Sony didn't put it on a marquee like they've done every other game that uses PSSR, then they stealth removed it....but only for the performance mode. The reason I bring this up is because it's created alot of confusion around what is and what isn't a PS5 pro enhancement patch. You see Sony's own HFW and HZD remaster don't use PSSR and we see it again here with Fortnite (a UE5 title) ....so it's possible to have the PS5 pro enhanced label without use of PSSR. So the million dollar question is... "what is more likely"....they had a bug in the original TSR solution on Pro caused by making adjustments to the ambient occlusion and setting the resolution to a fixed 900p and they fixed this issue with the 1.06 patch for the performance mode which is in line with why Sony made the PS5 pro in the first place (for the 75% of players who choose performance mode over quality mode in games) ....OR..... that they stealth patched in PSSR and then removed it but only for the performance mode. What's interesting is that if you've actually followed this post....you will have likely noticed that the DRS range of the base PS5 is substantially higher than the fixed 1080p resolution in the quality mode only. Which is odd considering that the performance mode has been going up in base rendering resolution and perhaps what DF is describing as PSSR ruining the image quality of the quality mode is simply the fixed resolution from TSR being lower than what it was on base PS5.

@Digital Foundry Hello guys not sure if anyone will see this but I did want to share something with you. It may be worth doing a follow-up now that Chap6 is out. On base PS5 I'm seeing character reflections even though Hardware RT isn't there to my understanding. Is it a screenspace blend with the Lumen to fake a few things? Or did epic change how lumen reflections work. I've tested on PC and only get the same effect woth HRT but don't think the Regular PS5 could handle it at 20fps. So they zoom in for those watching on their phones, yet you on a 4k 55" couldn't spot the difference. 🤔 Ok so let me see if I can explain the modern era of graphics... - Think of a white bright shirt, if I go and take a dropper and drop 3 black drops on the shirt, one in the dead center, another one on the front left and right side of the shoulders, would you still notice the difference between that tainted shirt vs one that has not been tainted? Now let's zoom into the shirt on the spots and see the differences, and then zoom out, you may still say, well the differences are so miniscule they don't matter, but when you look at the whole shirt, it does stick out like a sore thumb. With graphics is the same way, when you look at the whole picture with your own eyes (not thru KZbin) you will be able to notice the differences, if you are ok with the 3 black drops on your bright white shirt, then u are good, but the many do notice it. Graphics have reach a level where it will only be drops of black, where the picky will only notice, and those "graphic blind" (like those color blind) will not be able to spot sharper images, less flickers, jaggy edges, ect... Those graphic blind people will be happy with their PS5 for the rest of their lifes, the rest, will eventually upgrade to the PS6 and beyond.

@@DoodleDonkey45 What do you expect from "up to 45% higher performance" and more like 30% in practice. If you are familiar with Graphics settings and PC hardware you know that ~30-35% is basically like nothing. it allows you to change one or two demanding settings up a notch. Maybe a few FPS more and that's it. You want at least 100% more performance for a really meaningful upgrade. And even then it will just double the framerate while keeping the exact same settings. So if you had 30 FPS with medium settings and upscaling before, even 100% higher performance will only give you 60 FPS while still using medium settings and still using the same upscaling setting. With hardware you have to think in exponential growth. Not low double digit gains. It's no more than a drop in the ocean...
@vinniethegreat9645Ай бұрын
@@Relex_92 lol @ 30-35% performance gain is nothing. People upgrade all the time in PC gaming for that amount. While not an earth shattering difference a %35 improvement in performance is a lot more than "a drop in the ocean" and is not something to dismiss. And we aren't going to see exponential growth growth in hardware anymore. Processors have fallen behind Moore's law since around 2010.

One of the issues in which I think that Sony is going to get the last laugh is in the case of Silent Hill 2 because machine learning as I've come to realize is taking time to learn the individual game. I put in Red Dead Redemption 2 and it was having huge frame rate drops and stuttering but after a hour of game play now it's running smooth and everything is crystal clear the PlayStation Pro is actually learning as it goes unfortunately people jump the gun on Silent Hill 2 for instance I believe. So I think they were having a problem because they expected to work perfectly as soon as they plug it in but as I've come to learn it's taking time to learn hence the phrase machine learning upscaler. Now I could be wrong but like I said I played Red Dead Redemption 2 it was having huge stuttering and framedrops and suddenly it just started working smooth after playing it about an hour or two hours and being that Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most graphically intense games of our time I think the PlayStation was stuttering because it was learning and until it learned it, it had problems and people need to reevaluate this because there's no way that that just went away by itself unless what I'm saying is the case and it would explain Sony's silence in the face of all these criticisms they're just waiting to unveil the fact that nope sorry you're not giving the games enough time and it's not having a chance to develop its learning capabilities.
@jayp4838Ай бұрын
Yeah definitely confirmed when I was in a barren landscape it was stuttering tremendously. Now I am traveling through Saint Denis and it is resolving with no stuttering whatsoever. If it was like when i first popped the game into my PS5 Pro this could not possibly be the case. I wish I could have captured this experience because I'm sure nobody will believe me. It's 100% true though. Because I was even starting to worry that I wasted my money until I seen this.
