While, yes, one of the main reasons for the development "slowdown" (if you can even call it that because stw development is basically dead) being the sucess of BR, i kinda think that Save The World killed itself. The game was never that fun to begin with, it had a confusing storyline with characters coming and going every 3 missions, was full of filler missions on the main campaign for some reason, and had a lack of gameplay variety. Every mission is defend this for X time, protect that for Y minutes and if not it's some broken unfinished mess (looking at you deliver the bomb). i played all the main missions from stonewood to canny valley and the game felt the exact same for the months of gameplay i invested on it(yes, months, because progression is painfully slow and focused on daily rewards and weekly resets). Overall it had good ideas but didn't execute any of them well enough

I totally get the building mechanics being boring after a few minutes. It's why I got so invested in the competitive aspect rather than skill aspect. Often when the skill ceiling is so high it's less about building towers and shit but instead trying to outsmart them which makes you really appreciate the players and their application of the mechanics rather than just "let me build a 5 star tower". I totally agree as well with build mode making a lot of the other mechanics useless. It's why I think Zero Build is so nice. But I think the competitive aspect of the game is definitely the best way to enjoy build mode rather than just playing creative 1v1s all the time.

Jup alltho there are quite alot already it's just you get more and more shuffled in with each rank up you have. For example i'm Diamond 2 now in it and get quite a few really annoying ones with Blockades and slow downs etc. lul But sometimes the matchmaking picks the same old tracks over and over so i never really see much the newer ones i unlocked. I think Fortnite No Build is one of the best multiplayer shooters right now. It's so much fun. One thing you didn't mention about the battle passes is the extent of how affordable they are. If you spent 10 bucks back in season 3, and got the battle pass you could have gotten every single battle pass from then to today for free. The battle pass will always give you enough v bucks to buy the next one. As long as you reach tier one hundred every season, you can litterally get infinite cosmetics for free.

Your story at the beginning when it came to Fortnite is damn near the same as mine(except for actually playing for more than 15 minutes). I was naive and barely played any shooter on top of being confused by the building, so I dropped it and swore it off. Then, they added Dragon Ball in 2022 and I found out about Zero Build and I've been cruising with it, minus taking a break for a season from newbie burnout, which I now regret ever since. I'm still disappointed I missed out on a lot skins and emotes I like, though. Really hope they fix that FOMO problem with all the new people coming.

sure, u were only level 3 and haven't got to page 2 yet. but there's on average at least 2 (sometimes 3) free items in a page. And boi if u lucky u can get up to 300 v-bucks in a season having it be in a free slot like in season OG. That's how i got enough to buy the pass last season midway through it then needed another 50 v-bucks for this season's then i finished it in 2 weeks. The BP gives you so much back like 4 characters with multiple styles and cosmetics, even a car for me to use in Rocket League ( this is a PSA to my friends who spend 2k v-bucks on a mid skin instead of the pass :/ )

Been playing Fortnite since day 1, since it was the first BR for console. Its a great game to have an On-Again-Off-Again relationship with, since everytime you come back, it's changed a lot while remaining just familiar enough to not completely alienate you if youve been gone for a while. Genuinely one of my favorites, and yes im still garbage.

One thing that used to piss me off a lot about Fortnite was Save The World. Originally it was meant to be an early access thing you'd pay $50-60 for and they were eventually gonna make it free to play sometime in 2018-2019. Eventually the month they set as when it would be free to play came around and nothing happened. I ended up buying it and honestly still regret it to this day even tho it made getting v-bucks a lot easier.

To me the no building mode was the turning point. Now everyone has a BR mode that they can enjoy the most. The recent revive mode (rebirth style) bring me back again. Honestly rn Fortnite with Lego, Cars, Music games ecc has a mode for practically everyone who want to play a game.
