I remember visiting the Fortress of Louisbourg as a kid with my family in the 70s... it was like a magical step back to a memory frozen in time. I remember being really shy, but excited, when one of the "soldiers" put period costume hats on my sister and I to have our pictures taken with him. The experience was of the highlights of that summer! Thanks for the great family memories Louisbourg!

We also visited many years ago and were challenged at the gate to check if we were friend or foe - "Est-vous d'Angleterre". "Mais non", I replied, "nous sommes d'ecosse". We were welcomed as a friend (from Scotland not England).

We visited on decades ago and it was perfect -- so cold, wet and early in the day that there were only the two of us. As in the video, we were met at the fortress entrance by a guard who asked us in French our identity. Trying to be cute, I replied "Nous sommes Bostonnais de Nouvelle Angleterre". Bad Idea. He closed the gate and left us standing alone outside the fort for at least 15 minutes. Well played.

Absolutely , highly recommending to see. Actually, my family was given the task , under the French crown, to design Louisbourg and act as Governors of this pivotal fortress in Canada.

It's even pretty foggy just before you enter the town of Louisbourg itself.

I remember being told I wasnt aloud through the gates, because I was wearing a red jacket, apparently he let it pass since I was only about 35 pounds in weight at the time

They're dressed the way the French military dressed them in 1744. That's okay, a bit of reading and you'll have all the info :)

But....why are they dressed as the Bulkley's Regiment? I would expect regulars not foreign exiles.....
