Fortress Tsarevets Bulgaria

Tsarevets is a medieval fortress located on a hill of the same name in Veliko Tarnovo, in northern Bulgaria. It served as the main fortress of the Second Bulgarian Empire from 1185 to 1393, and its long ramparts that house the palace of the royal family and the patriarchal palace are a popular tourist attraction.The first evidence of human presence on the hill dates from the second millennium BC. In the sixth century, in front of the first wave of barbarous Avar and Slavic invasions (576-586) in Dacia, the ancient city of Nicopolis ad Istrum (which is located 20 kilometers north of Veliko Tarnovo) is dismantled and then evacuated in 5862 for the benefit of a Byzantine city, identified as Zikideva, built towards the end of the 5th century on Mount Tsarevets which offers a better refuge to the population.
Tsarevets est une forteresse médiévale située sur une colline du même nom à Veliko Tarnovo, dans le Nord de la Bulgarie. Elle servit de forteresse principale du Second Empire bulgare de 1185 à 1393, et ses longs remparts qui abritent le palais de la famille royale et le palais patriarcal sont une attraction touristique populaire.La première preuve de la présence humaine sur la colline date du IIe millénaire av. J.-C. Au vie siècle, face à la première vague d'invasions barbares avares et slaves (576-586) en Dacie, la cité antique de Nicopolis ad Istrum (qui se situe à 20 kilomètres au nord de Veliko Tarnovo) est démantelée puis évacuée en 5862 au profit d'une ville byzantine, identifiée comme Zikideva, construite vers la fin du ve siècle sur le mont Tsarevets qui offre un meilleur refuge à la population.
