What Palpatine could have done was use sith magic or sorcery to prolong the life of his bodies but he had every intention to go to other bodies.

So the sequels are basically an inspiration if the dark empire. That explains it. I can’t believe it but I think episode 9 did a slightly better job than TDE when it came to palpatene returning, instead of the galactic core, the unknown regions makes more sense.

It's not Canon but if you want to know where it "should" theoretically take place: The year is 10 ABY. 6 years after Return of the Jedi. The Mandalorian takes place in 9 ABY, 5 years after Return of the Jedi.

He did it with the intention of trying to destroy the Emperor and not risk anyone else like Leia becaus of her children from being corrupted.

Luke did this so he could keep tabs on Palpatine and at the same time know what was that seduced Vader to the dark side. That knowledge actually led Luke to become a grandmaster and learn how not to fear the dark side but rather understand how it works and how to achieve balance between the light and dark, correcting the mistakes of the old Jedi order, an order that feared the dark and sought to destroy it. Canon Luke is the total opposite, he became a sad old man, riddled with fear, that instead of building a brand new, powerful and wise Jedi Order, gave up to his fears and anxiety, tried to kill his nephew and in turn drove him to the dark side. What does he do after this? He becomes a bitter hermit and spends the rest of his days drinking green mik straight from the alien tit. And then they say this Luke is out of character.
