All four of these guys are remarkable together and Jimmy Fortune is like a fine wine, he only gets better with age! Oh and they finally thought of a name for the group, they are known now as “Brothers of the Heart.” Please check out some of their other tunes. Not a bad one in the bunch!😉

This performance was recorded live in the concert hall on Rory Feek's farm in Columbia, Tennessee. Rory hosted the show. Most know him of the husband/wife duo. Joey and Rory. The full names of each of these men in this lineup for those who don't know and might be interested are: Jimmy Fortune (The lead singer with the incredible voice on this performance. Formerly with the Statler Brothers) Bradley Walker (The man in the back singing low harmony. He is a DOVE Award-winner with a strong following in country, gospel and bluegrass) Mike Rogers (The man in the front near Jimmy, playing guitar and singing high harmony. Formerly with the band, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver) Ben Isaacs (The man playing the standup bass and singing middle harmony, He produced this show. He is from the singing family group, The Isaacs )

Unbelievable! I was ready to dismiss this, because I never believed that anyone could sing this better than J.D. Souther. This is one of my all time favorite songs. I did not realize that the Fortune in the names given was The Jimmy Fortune! Who is also an all time favorite of mine. Thank you so much for reacting to this version. But, I do sincerely hope that you will also react to the original J.D, Souther version. It gives me chills. And if you want to react to more Jimmy Fortune, try "Elizabeth" by the Statler Brothers. OMG!

Jimmy Fortune is probably the best singer I have ever heard ! He was the best thing to happen to the Statler brothers in my opinion ,I have been a Hugh fan of his since he started with them and there is nothing he can’t sing ! I will never understand why he didn’t top the charts once he went solo ! He has the voice of an Angel ! Love you Jimmy !

Phil Everly and Jackson Browne helped J.D. Souther out with the harmony on the 1979 original. Fortune, et al., do a wonderful job with this excellent cover.

Jimmy Fortune (the Voice) spent over 20 years with The Statler Brothers and then he went solo when they retired. The gentleman on the bass fiddle is part of the southern gospel family group The Issacs. The other gentleman with a guitar is Mike Roders who has been around country music for quite a long time as well. I don't know much about Mr. Walker other than he has a beautiful bass voice. Check out their version of the Statler Brothers hits "Elizabeth" and the "Class of '57 " Thanks for doing this reaction!

Hi I just stumbled upon this channel. Jimmy fortune is one of the greatest and purest voices I have ever heard. All 4 men are great friends and came together at the idea of Ben Isaacs to form a quartet for a project and it looks like they may very well be a more permanent fixture.. I am almost certain that they are going by Brotherly Love OR The Brotherly Love Project. They have an album out of that same name Brotherly Love.

J. D. (John David) Souther wrote this. I remember hearing this song in 1979 and being blown away! He co-wrote many of the Eagles' hits. I finally got my hands on his album "You're Only Lonely" in the late '80s. There were other songs there that IMHO should have been chart toppers. Take a listen to his songs "If You Don't Want My Love" and "White Rhythm and Blues", and "Last in Love".

Dang! What a great cover. Totally wasn't expecting it to be this good. EXCELLENT! Right before you said "perfect pitch" I was thinking it. That's what they say about JD Souther's voice too. I was waiting for that last note with fingers crossed cuz that's stuff of the masters but he nailed it. 🔨💥 Great reaction! 👏 Maybe you can do JD Southers version too. He's a musician's musician. That's the highest ranking among artists.
@39thala3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this reaction Harri. I didn't provide the year the song was originally done but I'm glad you went back and saw the note with the request that this was a cover of the J.D. Souther classic "You're Only Lonely" and that it is the 'best' cover I have ever heard of this song! (You had me fooled there for about 8 minutes, lol.) The reason I requested it is because it is live and the sound and video quality is fantastic and these men did a flat out fantastic job on it!. As for background on the song itself, it was done in 1979 actually. J.D. Souther (John David Souther) is known for his songwriting for Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles and others, This was his one hit as a solo artist. Thanks again!

And these guys 'more' than did the song justice! It literally brought tears to my eyes when I first heard this video. They did such a beautiful job on what is one of my all time favorite songs! If you try to do the J.D. Souther version at a later date I'll definitely be looking forward to your reaction! :-)
