it a shame the u.s. market has not accepted these 2 new songs by ABBA. the songs did chart for a week on the hot 100 and did not chart high ,the next week they were not even listed. the hot 100 tunes primarily are downloaded by people under 30. their taste for today's crap music is pathetic. i think the album will do ok on the u.s. chart but am very disappointed the downloaders are not open to ABBA's masterful,productions, and singing excellence . you young people just give them a listen and know what REAL music is like!!

This song works on at least 3 levels... one, a fictional woman singing to someone she was once in a close relationship with and is now coming back into their life - two, agnetha herself in the context of ABBA singing a story about her and the band - three, ABBA as a band talking thru Agnetha to the fans who have loved them for so long with the band absent and now returning to us.

You're probably one of the few in America who has taken the time to analyse and critique Abba's music. My understanding from a friend who lived in the US during the 70's & 80's is that they were never really popular or well known there. In Australia where I'm from they were huge! We totally embraced them. From your video you seem to be familiar with their earlier recordings. I don't know how America is going to react to ABBA's new material (I'm assuming that's where you are at the moment because of your accent and video), but I would really encourage you to spread Abba's music as wide as possible. I'm sure in this current climate of world chaos would resonate with a whole new fanbase over there. Thank you for uploading and sharing your video. Much love and peace from Melbourne Australia 😃

back in the day ABBA had only 1 #1 which was dancing queen, take a chance hit #3 . their highest album hit i think #13 so not a very good showing here in the u.s. the problem is you have so many areas of the country. the northeast southeast northwest southwest etc. its possible ABBA was big in one section of the country but not everywhere and to be top 10 on both the singles and lp charts you have to combine all the territories to reach the summit. . flash ahead to today. the 2 new songs only charted on the top 100 for 1 week and not that high- very pathetic showing indeed. i am in my 60s and bought the physical copies of the single and i am very disappointed how the younger generation have basically ignored this timeless group and their masterful compositions .most people that download are under 30 and they would rather listen to the crap the music industry is peddling. i think the lp will chart well but will have to see in nov.

Thanks for the ABBA. Both songs so far have been tailor made/written for each girl. This one for Agnetha. I think both are great. The guys have always been the perfect writers for the girls and the girls the perfect singers for the guy's. The concerts will be digital in London. They are building a new digital arena. It will be a mixture of them digitally recreated as ABBA when younger, live music, light show and dinner theater if you want it. i know it sounds crazy but they've always been trendsetter. I could see it taking off and being reproduced in major tourist cities around the world. And I could see other bands providing shows for them too.

talking about the two new ABBA songs, recorded in 2018 after more than 35 years: The first thing is to say that the return of ABBA, considering and accepting that they are more than twice as old as when they left, is that they have exceeded expectations and are at a high level They are two very different songs, with two different leading voices (one with a very special official video), but both magnificent "I still have faith in You" is a beautiful ballad, with a moving vocal conduction by Frida, and a video full of careful memories until 1979, to explode with the ABBAtars of themselves, in a chorus full of mystique and epic "Don't shut me down" is a fantastic disco pop song for the turn of the decade 79/80, with all the musical hooks, an introduction by Agnetha that is an anthology, a second part that grows in musicalization and harmonies with Frida, and a memorable choir full of joy, at the height of ABBA's greatest hits in the 70s decade In summary I still have faith in You It is the expected return of ABBA by and for the most fans, but Don't shut me down It is the unexpected return (due to its very high competitive level) of ABBA for the whole world of music At more than 70 years of age, ABBA comes with a message of inner healing in its relationships, and with timeless music of the highest quality and true to its style

Feels the lyrics are very much about their return, asking us to have an open mind, that they are not the ones we new, they are now and then combined. We didn’t want them to leave so now they’re here again although not the same this time around. It’s all in the song. They were asked so many times to return, they’ve been offered millions but it was never about the money for them, it was about keeping the memory of them and how they were. So when this idea with the avatars was presented to them they felt this was the only way they could make a return. I for one appreciate this for I want to save the image of the old ABBA in my mind.
@poec3292
@poec3292 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, agree, the lyrics represent a message to their fans, but can be interpreted in other ways, obviously. Agnetha is not a fan of flying in planes, so a large world tour would be difficult, and as you said, it is about making a compromise, in order to keep that ABBA of old still alive, they use technology, and if that is what makes them eager to get together and still make music, then no one should complain.
@arielsea9087
@arielsea9087 3 жыл бұрын
I think this song was written around Agnetha’s life experience. The reason why she left, her frustration and now she’s transformed, reloaded and ready. She’s learned to cope being a more mature person and hopes her fans are ready to open the door for ABBA as a whole with her as a part of it.
@MultiSky7
@MultiSky7 3 жыл бұрын
Yup, that's one part of the story, the other is combining old and new technologies of making their music, touring, presentation, etc - so she's asking their old funs and ones to be to have an open mind about their new "outfit".

I think it's A elder woman hitting on an ex. And maybe a bit double, but Björn are usually not afraid to portrait women who know what they want. Young (Does your mother know) as grown ups (Gimmie gimmie) and if I'm not mistaken here's an elderly woman who has decided to take a brave step and reach out with her heart in her hand. Life is short. No time to beat about the bush. She's meaning business. I think it's heart warming.

Lyrics are telling their old audience that they won't tour cause they are in their '70 and ok, yes, it's CGI recreations of them when they were young, but it's still them behind new technologies - so they should have an open mind.. to their new audience and to those who don't know them (yet) - yes, they are in their 70 in CGI form, but to have an open mind. It's about journey they took making this project, about them COMBINING their ("old") way of making music with new technologies ( I'M NOW AND THEN - COMBINED), RELODING them on the new streaming platforms and allowing them to be presented to the much broader audience world wide at the same time, without them being physically there - so "DON'T SHUT ME DOWN", meaning, don't turn them off, let them on your streaming platform by clicking - ENTER!!

Ive been waiting for your reaction and im so glad.We older fans got to thank you for your big support with all the detailful stuff you got on your huge abba playlist songs,multiple docs etc.Do know Benny and Bjorn were really flattered when hip hop band FUGEES asked permission to use a sample of The Name of the game" in their song "Rumble in the jungle" back in 1997.Twas the first time they allowed it and"broke their vow" long way before Madonnas 2nd and last time ever, 8 years late on.According to US music culture and the status quo of those"serious"music critics Black people weren't supposed to listen to Abba"s white europop but only soul,rap,hip hop,blues etc.If you allow me a suggestion you gotta react to 1977 clip "THAT"s ME" featuring the girls at the height of their beauty,you musnt miss that.Or even a big favourite for many fans "MOVE ON"a masterpiece both lyrically and musically.So happy to see the immediate response for "DSMDOWN".You got over 24000 views so quickly! and by the way i was also overjoyed when you also did "IF it wasnt for the nights"from the fab "VOULEZ VOUS"LP.

And leaving the rest alone. For the effort one needs to excert just isn't worth the payoff. It's also about the assension of ones self. How through the passage of time, we set new standards for our selves. And, through those standards come to know a truer happiness 😊

The London venue will hold 3,000. But it is planned that there will be one performance from Monday to Friday with extra 'matinee' shows on Saturdays and Sundays. So that's a heck of a lot of shows over a three or four year period. Let us say it will be 1,000 shows x 3,000 fans = 3 million. If the demand is there, they can add more shows or move to other venues. Because the avatars will never get tired or strain their vocals. That's the beauty of the concept.

For me the 'then and now combined' and other lyrics are referring to the fact that they are appearing as digital avatars that look young, but with their current older voices and motion capture recorded now, so they are a combination of the past and the present together, and they are fired up (activated) and don't want to be shut down (switched off). Just my interpretation of course :)

It's funny that they come back many years later and manage to make better music than any other pop band. Lyrics, music and production play in a completely different league.

Yes, Agnetha leads here. Both pre-order album and show tickets on sale. Hope there will be a blu-ray of the concert at some point or fans post on YT for those of us from other countries not able to travel overseas. I expect we will be seeing music videos of the songs using the avatar Abbatars .

As a Swede and ABBA-lover, I’m loving your reactions videos! To get more of Björn and Benny’s songwriting, you should check out the soundtrack to the musical Chess. In my opinion, especially the songs Anthem and Endgame.

My interpretation of this is that’s its a new song for the ‘ABBA-tars” to sing. The “ABBA-tars” are electronic, and don’t want to be shut down… Audience looks bewildered… at the age of the ABBA-tars… “I’m here today…” “Shape and form I appear now…” “You see another me, I’ve been reloaded.” “I’m now and then combined.” Doesn’t that say… My human voice accompanied by a NEW ‘body.’

Just to give you an idea - As I am writing this the first 16 concerts of ABBA Voyage at the ABBA Arena in London are now almost sold out ("low availability" of tickets - only a few seats available in areas reserved for people with lower mobility). These are the concerts taking place May 27 through June 10th, 2002. June 11th has a few more seats available, June 12th trough June 26th (the next 17) are virtually sold out again, June 27th still has a reasonable amount of tickets, June 30th through July 3rd (the next 5) are virtually sold out again. Out of the total of 132 planned concerts at the ABBA Arena in London (May 27th through October 2nd 2022) 55 are virtually sold out after ticket sales began just over 3 days ago...

This track is about a broken relationship, were she walked out and left. She's sitting outside waiting for the lights in the apartment to go on, and then goes to the door in the hope she'll be invited in and taken back... Classic ABBA storytelling

Don’t Shut Me Down is an homage to the Abba sound in their hey day in the 70’s, early 80’s with a modern feel to it… It’s a really great song! Don’t care about the hologram tour, if I go to a concert I want to see the artist perform live. But excited about the album…

@@DavidVarkonyi yes that’s fine too that you wouldn’t pay to see holograms,these are not holograms they are digital avatars made by motion technology of their own movements so it is them you see but digitally with a live orchestra at the show and tickets are selling out fast ,am a huge ABBA fan and never got to see them in concert so this to me is the closest I’m gonna get ,I can’t wait! Not a penny wasted from me I have to say but I understand it’s not for everybody

To me it sounds like she (Agnetha) is sitting in the park outside of she and Bjorn's old apartment they use to live in together in Stockholm. She's sitting on the bench thinking about her decision to rejoin ABBA again and go and do all they are about to do. She goes and meets Bjorn to inform him that yes she'll do it. Bjorn of course looks totally bewildered because he clearly did not expect her to say yes. But she learned to deal with the fears and stresses she experienced in ABBA the first time around and over the last 40 years she has grown and learned to cope with it all and now she's fired up and ready to be one of the A's in ABBA again. And she promises she is totally chill now and won't f**k it up. ✌️👍😁
