I was at that concert, was 17 at the time. They were better LIVE than the recorded versions. I was lucky to see them twice in Montreal and was also at the LIVEAID concert. I've seen Led Zeppelin, Styx, Pink Floyd, Genesys in concert but Queen was special. They had a way to engage with the audience that was soo special. The Live Aid concert they gave was a life changing experience. I still get emotional when I look at my ticket sub and remember this once in a life time event. 😊😊

1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and RIP Freddie, but Queen is STILL going strong. There will never be another Freddie. That's why MJ (RIP) admired him, same as Prince and many others. The legends of music and Queen is at the top. Music today can't compete.

It’s interesting to listen to the recorded studio version of this song and compare it to the live version. They sped up the tempo a little and the drums are more pronounced here, it shows how talented they were as a group that they could change their songs to suit a concert format. This video is one of my favourites, but their Wembley concert in 1986 is EPIC! You can’t go wrong with anything from that concert but I suggest Under Pressure and Love of my life. Those two songs really showcase how Freddie controls the audience like an orchestra conductor, almost 80,000 people were there and he had them in the palm of his hand. Thank you for your reaction, it’s nice to have some intelligent analysis instead of some of the stupid comments I’ve heard from other reactors, more interested in watching Queen only because they have a huge fan base and will earn them a few likes.

Cups contain water, lemon water, tea, tea with honey etc. for his throat. The beer stayed in the bottle. It was a 2 hour concert, he had to keep his throat soothed. So tired of everyone mentioning the beer and assuming, wrongfully, that every cup was beer. And, if he had a sip of beer, was that an awful sin? Come on, geeet over it, and review the performance, not the selection of beverages. The beverages, tea and water, supplied by his roadie, mentioned in his book along with his personal assistant's books as well.

Absolutely agree - why is this a thing? I notice YT reactors, sitting comfortably in their chairs at home, doing nothing very physically or vocally taxing can rarely go the length of the one song they're reacting to without taking a drink of some kind, so why they should find it remarkable that a musician/lead vocalist needs to take a sip of a drink from time to time during a gruelling, high energy, non-stop 2 hour performance is a little strange! And to say that drinking (what he supposes to be) beer must somehow be 'second nature' to Freddie is also very odd.
@ocheltree1
@ocheltree1 4 жыл бұрын
@@papercup2517 , agree, totally!!! It's really strange how many reactors I've seen bring this up. It's QUITE common for performers to have a variety of things available during a concert, it was just easy to put it on the piano in reach for Freddie. All assumed it was alcohol. One beer on the table and make the leap all are alcohol and all for Freddie. He did a lot of drugs in his off time, he didn't use during performances.

The indie artists are still crafting excellent music, in every genre. But mainstream corporatized music and radio won't give them the time of day, so people think true talent and true music are dead. And these things ARE dead if one only consumes what the corporate PR hands us. The latest whatever crap featured on the Today show. It's all a promotion machine, all interlocking $ machines. But it's a false death. True music is still with us. It's just up to us to search it out these days, and we owe it to real artists to look for them.

Great reaction. If you wanna check out Freddie acting with the audience and not sitting at the piano at the most time I would recommend to watch to Under Pressure live at Wembley 1986. From this very concert "another one bites the dust" is also very entertaining and has a killer bass line. Well, from this concert you can take nearly every song as a masterpiece of live performance. But these two, I think, are a good start. Very good studio songs are e.g. Don't Stop Me Now, The Show Must Go On or Innuendo and lots of other very good suggestions you will get :-) Whish you lots of fun exploring Queen music and rock music generally...

I always stand up for Roger Taylor (the Drummer) Roger Taylor has a Nice Raspy Rock Voice (which you can hear at 7:12) His Voice is also Higher than Freddie's, don't know if you noticed that. Roger is a High Tenor which makes his normal Voice pretty high and Freddie is a High Baritone and his natural Voice is deeper than Roger's. It's really funny tho I thought about it now and it's kinda weird... Freddie is the one with the deeper Voice but his Highest note is 1 note higher than Roger's highest (Rogers's highest is an E6 and Freddie can do an F6 which is one note Higher) and Roger can go Deeper than Freddie. (Freddie's deepest is an F2 and Roger can go way lower to an Bb1) That's funny to me. So basically Freddie and Roger can both sing really High. at 7:26 Freddie hits an G5, first time I checked it but it's pretty high (Roger can already reach that note by just screaming) and at 8:17 you can hear Roger making an E5 or F5. It's obviously lower than a G5 but those are just some examples. Also this somebody to love performance was the same concert as the bohemian rhapsody performance you just reacted to.

Freddie needed Roger imo. Having someone with Rogers vocal chops in the band made him better and drove creativity. The only band where each member wrote a #1 single. Even the Beatles failed to have that depth. Freddie is a once in a generational talent, but Roger could really sing. They all could

@@ben1ben - I saw Queen live and John DID sing back up more often than people think. He tried to stay out of the spotlight so the camera seldom found him when he did. His voice was lower and quite nasal but not bad at all. He also did the low "Somebody" in this song but it never showed him, the chorus in "The lap of the Gods", "I want it all", "Friends will be friends"and others. His bass live was fantastic and he wrote over a dozen songs including a few of their biggest hits. Many of their songs like Dragon Attack, Breakthru, The Invisible Man, Millionaire Waltz, (basically all of them) were driven by his bass. He was their anchor. He sang choruses quite often. If you see the Budapest concert he sang a lot.

If I were you I would avoid we are the champions and we will rock you as you know those songs. They perform both of those at live aid 1984 which is the high point of their fame and maybe the most famous live performance ever, so fight the temptation and watch that down the line. If I were you I’d watch the videos of another one bites the dust and don’t stop me now. It gives you a different flavour of the band. And Freddie Mercury will go down in history as one of the greatest front men to have ever lived. As well as one of the greatest voices. Freddie Mercury was a perfectionist. If it wasn’t right it would be before he would do it. And what he sipped mostly was tea with lemon to soothe his throat. Freddie was a heavy smoker and had trouble with nodules on his throat. At Live Aid he was urged by his physician not to perform because he had a severe case of laryngitis, but he sang anyway. Freddie Mercury was one of a kind and will never be replaced by anyone. Just pure raw talent and brains.

As far as I understand, the Montreal concerts --there were 2, I believe-- were sort of one-offs dedicated to a unique filming concept and technology--hence the excellent quality of the video. Again, operating from memory here, I believe that the concert films were supposed to be like some kind of home IMAX experience, but the concept never really took off, and moreover, the rights to the concert footage, up until recently, had been granted to the filmmaker, and so Queen was not involved in the editing process, which they were unhappy about. It was only around 10-15 years ago when they acquired the rights to the footage and edited it in the way that they wanted, and released a DVD. Queen did do quite a bit of touring though in the early 80s in support of albums that released in 1980, '82 and "84. Keep up doin' the great reaction videos!

Recently bought the dvd of this concert on Amazon and one of the extras is commentary by Brian and Roger. They share quite a few memories. There were two nights of performances. The other extras are Live Aid and the Live Aid rehearsal.

Nice reaction! I like hearing your thoughts. This was part of The Game tour, Queen usually made an album and then they toured the world to promote that album. I think something else you might like is Who Wants To Live Forever live at Wembley 1986 Friday version kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4DLpn5tlr-Ur9k. They obviously didn't film a lot of concerts during this time it was too expensive. Queen actually did a lot of filmed shows compared to some other bands. They usually filmed one or two of their shows on any tour. They have released 15 studio albums, so there have been a lot of tours (although they didn't tour for their last 3 albums). I do actually agree with what you said regarding rock stars and rap stars. Although, I don't think it has anything to do with talent. I don't think you have to be as talented as Freddie Mercury, someone like Freddie Mercury really comes along once in a lifetime. Freddie Mercury and Queen inspired a lot of different artist. Perhaps you might find it interesting that they even inspired someone like Michael Jackson. He used to go to a lot of their shows in the States. The song Another One Bites The Dust, along with Queen's Hot Space album inspired his direction on the Thriller album. The irony is that Queen's hard rock audience hated the Hot Space album, since it was a mixture of disco, soul, funk and rock. But Michael saw something in that direction, he in turn pushed Queen to release Another One Bites The Dust. They were not going to release the song, they only released it because of Michael's advice and it was a massive hit. The one handed glove thing, also comes from Freddie Mercury. You should check out these songs from the Hot Space album Cool Cat: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYXSdKiPm9B6f5Y, and this song sounds like it could have been on the Thriller album: Back Chat live 1982 kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3ylhnWOpNx2a5o. Queen inspired a huge variety of artist, from heavy metal bands such as Metallica, to pop artist such Lady Gaga (she got her name from a Queen song), Katie Perry even Lil Wayne lists Queen as an inspiration. People are starting to study Freddie Mercury's compositions more these days, they show a certain brilliance, interesting key changes and cord progressions. He actually did compose a classic/ opera type of album as well. People often just think of Freddie Mercury as a great singer and entertainer, but he was a brilliant composer and songwriter as well. Generally you are not going to find someone else like Freddie easily. He also had quite an interesting back ground, he is a Parsi and his family was Zoroastrian, he was born on Zanzibar and he went to an English boarding school in India. There are not many rock stars these days who are charismatic and good looking. During the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's rocks stars used to be charismatic and good looking. Some of them had talent as well, and some didn't. But they were larger then life personalities. Rock was rebellious and anti establishment, these days they are trying to fit in with the establishment. I think a lot of rock bands these days are afraid of not being politically correct, and they are afraid of standing out or going against the establishment. They don't have good looking and charismatic frontman anymore. Rappers are not afraid to be politically incorrect or to stand out, and there are few good looking, charismatic rappers. The last frontmen in rock with popularity such as Adam Levine and Jared Leto, fits that bill, although these guys are generally disliked by rock fans. But the whole music industry is not the same anymore, there has been too much of a corporate take over, and general gate keeping. The industry just needs to collapse completely so that we can get something new, the same with the film industry.

I complete agree with you. The frontman plays a big part. Essentially being the face and persona of the group. Adam Levine is a good example of the last of a dying breed. I would even say Chester Bennington as well RIP. We do see some rarities in terms of artists and their charisma and personalities. I think those rare gems will always exist but a lot of them havent been found. Unfortunately talent doesn't win over anymore nowadays it's all about the hype and money that can be put behind an individual who can generate capital whether they are talented or not. Funny that you mention Michael Jackson in association with Queen because while watching this video I was legitimately thinking about Mike and what he thought of Queen because Michael was a big fan of various artists and drew inspiration from a lot of them, being a musical genius himself I appreciate the fact that he always wanted to learn, grow, and get inspired by other artists. Thank you again for your expertise ✌️ ❤️

@@FortWorthFabian Yes, you are right Chester Bennington was another great frontmen and he was very talented well. Michael honestly had a great appreciation for many different artist, he was also able to do more then one genre of music. His music or lyrics was also very meaningful, which is something you will not find on the top of the charts these days. He and Freddie Mercury recorded 3 songs together, but it was never quite finished. but you can find two of them on KZbin. There Must Be More To Life Then This kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpzGlYagadZ1jbc and State Of Shock (which Mike later released with Mick Jagger, since they never found time to finish the tracks) kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6mWd4KKnryqsJI, nothing from the song Victory has ever been released. Michael of course was also a great inspiration for a large variety of different artist! There is to much money being spend on pushing certain artist, and everything really needs to fall into a certain formula, it is difficult to think that artist such as Michael Jackson or Freddie Mercury would be able to gain popularity these days. It is nice chatting to you! I made a video comparing Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson's vocal ranges because I love both artists, you can check it out in your own time, if you are interested, I don't mean that you should react to it or anything kzbin.info/www/bejne/lanEnXiQr7pmZq8.

Hey-Great to see Queen music get reviewed; I did not see hardly any live footage of them until 2006 or so, although I’ve listened to them for at least 25 years to that point. They EXCEL live, I have a suggestion for you to view- “Sheer Heart Attack” from Live at the Bowl, 1982. In fact, the whole concert rocks! Enjoy......

Great reaction to the greatest band ever. May I suggest you dig into their 70's répertoire, try March of the black queen, White queen live at the Odeon, The prophet's song, You take my breath away live at Hyde park and the the album version, Liar, Stone cold crazy, seven seas of Rye and In the lap of the God all of them live at the Rainbow. You are now addicted to Queen, there is no cure but more Queen will help you.

Freddie singing from deep in his heart; Queen performing from the depths of their hearts. BTW the guy tossing Freddie his mic was Peter Hince, roadie assigned to Deaky (Bass Guitar) and Freddie. Peter wrote a wonderful book about working for Queen. The perspective, special.
