Freddie was a master performer & true professional. Something unexpected happens in this performance that no one notices. When Freddie turns on the piano bench toward Brian May, you expect to hear another of his amazing solos but there's only 1 note. Watch carefully & you'll see him almost immediately unplug his guitar. Something had gone wrong & he had to run backstage to the technician. In those same 2 seconds Freddie sees the problem & immediately gets up & starts working the audience. Brian is back in short order. You see Freddie look back to notice his arrival & the whole thing goes on nearly seamlessly. I think he earned a 10!!!

I was at that concert in Montreal. I was blown away during the whole concert. Freddy was only drinking tea with honey and lemon during his concerts. The beer was there for publicity only. I was also at the LIVE AID concert and was part of that unforgettable performance by Queen. I will never forget it ! Queen was one of my favorite band on live shows. They were better than on the recorded version. I guess I was one if the lucky ones to have seen them live. 😊😊

Wow… how amazing was this? Somebody to Love live is the greatest performance I have ever seen alongside this. Where all four band members are so in sync with each other. It is emotionally moving no words could ever describe. Freddie was our Mozart and tragically we did not realise it when he was alive…. I hope whatever is on the other side he is feeling how much we love absolutely everything about him. He and Queen are the only fabulous people who literally take me out of my crappy life, worries, losses and problems…. I put my headphones on and play this, I am no longer in my living room with a pile of bills, people hassling me by phone, text or messages…..I am in my heaven, mesmerised, captivated and made to believe I am special ♥️ It never gets old and when I see you good people enjoying it as much as me it is truly heart warming. I was a little girl when Queen did the Live Aid concert. I just remember it was something really exciting to look forward to here in England, like a Royal wedding, after Charles marrying Diana… It was that much of an event. My mam who was from Limerick in Ireland knocked up a massive pan of Irish stew that morning, so when we got hungry during the epic day me and my brother could just go and help ourselves during the artist change overs so we wouldn’t miss a thing! Following the release the previous Christmas in 1984 of Band Aids Do They Know It’s Christmas single, which I actually still have. My big brother saved up money from his Saturday job at a butcher’s to buy it for me…. My birthday is the 21st December so it was a combined present along with Wham’s Last Christmas which came out at the same time. Besides Star Wars toys that was my greatest present of all time 😊 I clearly remember when Freddie ran out on to that stage it was like the lights had been truly switched on….Thank you so much for making a lonely lady feel like I am not….. for you are transported to planet Mercury with me for a little while. I have just discovered your channel and I look forward to learning from your other mini movies…. Your breathless astounding silence at the end was priceless at the end of Somebody to Love. 😌Take care handsome man….Julie from the other side of the world…..Manchester, England 💋x

Great reaction! You should check out You Take My Breath Away from Queen live at Hyde Park 1976, to hear Freddie doing something different. Freddie Mercury wrote Somebody To Love as somewhat of a tribute to Aretha Franklin, he loved her voice and singing. He only does the shaky jaw technique on Somebody To Love, he is likely copying other gospel singers. He himself did not really sing like that. That being said he did not always sing with perfect technique, but he generally had the basics down. A lot of people think that Freddie Mercury actually sang at his best right before his death, on the Innuendo album during 1989 - 1991.

Hello From Arizona U.S.A. I just found your channel and I must say I truly loved this reaction. Watching your reaction when Freddie hit those notes was priceless. Freddie was such a showman. In many of the live videos whenever they were going to sing either Radio GaGa or especially Under Pressure, you can witnessed the pure audiance control that Freddy has over the crowd. Rodger does a fantastic job singing in that song as well. He always delivered even when he sang against his doctor's advice when he had the flu and with a fever. I'm so happy that you mentioned Brian May and Roger Taylor. John Deacon was a bit shy but also a very good singer as well. Freddie drank mainly water with lemon and honey but did enjoy a beer or two on stage. It's also known that John Deacon had basically a cocktail bar back by the amps. You can tell when he had a few because that's when you see actually relax in front of the crowd and get into his groove. They didn't call him Disco Deaky for no reason! Damn great bass player.Keep reacting to Queen!

Imo there is no live performance that's better than this one. The whole band was spot on. Epic. Also let's not forget this is half way through a 2 hour plus concert. And those guys put the same intensity into every song they do. 100% effort! Just one of the things that separates Queen from most everyone else. Nothing is done half-hearted.

Thanks for your reaction to my favorite live performance of Queen. I've seen all videos from this concert and they all are great. Roger's voice was better than many lead singers'. If you want to hear something quite extraordinary from Freddie, listen to his Excercises In Free Love, which became later the Ensueno with the lyrics of Montserrat Caballé, a duet of these 2 great artists.

I absolutely loved Freddy and Montserrat Caballe's duo at the Olympics in Barcelona I believe. It was epic. I love that Ms .Caballe' came to see Freddie after hearing that Freddie loved her. They had a great visit and from what I read she and Freddie went to the studio and she recorded a special tape just for him. Now that is just beautiful.

I will spare you that. I meant to check so I apologize if you have reacted to this but I would love your reaction to “The Dance” performed by Kelly Clarkson at the Kennedy Center Honors this year for Garth Brooks. Freddie was diagnosed with nodules on his vocal cords in 1975, which will mean more to you than most people. He refused to have them removed for fear it would permanently damage his voice. They did eventually limit his range in the last few years that he performed, but you would never know he was performing with any discomfort.

Go and listen to the Queen fan podcast, there are people who have worked with Queen for years. They said Freddie was incorrectly diagnosed with nodules in 1975. He later on went to other doctors as well. He did not have nodules, but he was in danger of developing them. Male voices can change a lot until the age of 40. Freddie was a heavy voiced tenor, their voices always change from their youth. They often start off as Lyric Tenors or as Lyric Baritones. In opera heavy voiced tenors are not used until they at the very least reach the age of 35, or preferably older. These voices are very often incorrectly classified in their youth. Your voice gains weight and power as you age. Freddie was a Spinto Tenor, it is voice with some weight and power. Their voices often sound lower then what they are actually singing, because they have more lower frequencies in the voice, then a plain Lyric Tenor. It is a slightly lower voice then a Lyric Tenor, because of the weight of the voice. Here is a great example of Spinto Tenor Franco Corelli at the age of 35, (his voice is still actually to light here): kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3vSaJiLlpp-iJI Here is a later recording where his voice has gained enough power and depth: kzbin.info/www/bejne/maTYqaZ7hJiLrZo Freddie just finally grew into his correct voice as the years passed. The problem was that he always sang live in full chest voice, that is extremely difficult to do and it is very hard on the voice. He could have made things easier on himself if he used mixed voice more often.

@@voxsingingacademy Thank you, it seems like you guys are doing some good work! I would also say, that voice types are not important in popular music, but it can give you a lot of insight into someone's voice. There was always signs that Freddie Mercury was really a Spinto. He sang low notes quite well, which is something you find with heavy voiced tenors. He also had a very sharp laser pitch to his voice right from the start, that is a quality you only find in Spinto tenors. People don't understand these tenors that well, because they are rare, you will find a lot more of them in opera, most of the famous arias was written for Spinto tenors. Heavy voiced tenors are very popular in opera. These are still high voices, people often call heavy voiced tenors low tenors. They are tenors, they can hit the same high notes, they just have a slightly lower comfortable range. Their voices simply have weight, but it takes time to develop these qualities. In comparison Lyric Baritones have very light and agile voices. Heavy voiced tenors, usually have darker voices then Lyric Baritones. Freddie Mercury went to see a doctor in 1975, because he was trying to sing with too much power or a bigger voice then had at that stage. This is something that also often happens with heavy voiced tenors. They know they they have a more powerful voice in them, but it is often just not fully developed at that younger age. Meat Loaf had some of the same issues he is a Heldentenor, unfortunately it caused far more issues for him. A potential problem that Freddie Mercury might have experienced was that he likely could not hear himself on stage. Queen's stages grew and grew. He was often running around on stage in places where there was no wedge monitors. He could have sung as loudly as possible to hear himself. Chest voice is obviously your loudest voice, but also your lowest voice. Here is a nice example from 1986, where Freddie Mercury start off with some B4 notes in mixed voice. He then switches back to A4 in chest voice. He used that mixed voice when he was directly in front of the stage with very little other instrumentation. He uses falsetto as well but it disappears underneath all of the sound. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l37LgqyriMSfj6M These are the usual problems that all performers have to face to some degree of course. Your voice will become tried when you use that much chest voice on high notes, but it does sound very powerful.

@@BurningFlame08 Freddie was fine in 1986 it was a very good tour, he was just sick at the Wembley 1986 concert which every one thinks of as his 1986 voice. His voice was at it's most powerful in 1986. You get many different types of voices, real powerful tenor voices are very, very rare. It is far better sound, then singing like everyone else.
