About forty Fingers of Farukhabad:
Following family tradition of 900 yrs, Ustad Sabir Khan has initiated his three sons from childhood into the art of Indian classical music. Besides instructing them personally in the same manner in which he himself was taught, he has tailored their training according to their personal talents and skills so that each one has concentrated on mastering the traditional established themselves as world class musicians and are considered amongst the finest young musicians of Indian Classical music. Since Indian Classical music is an unwritten, mostly improvised art, it has traditionally been presented as solo performances, or at the most, duets relying on contrast and imitation. Ustad Sabir Khan has however pioneered with his sons a number of inventive, enticing and interesting compositions in set rhythmic time cycles with appropriate accompaniment on Sarangi/ Harmonium
Perhaps no other family can boast such a talent of Indian Classical musicians and Ustad Sabir Khan's sons represent the thirty-fourth generation of a unique dynasty of master musicians whose legacy goes to the 11th century Ad. Their ability to perform together as father and sons require a combination of talent, skill, and unity of hearts and minds and creates an effect like no other. Generations of devoted training and practice lie behind this remarkable merging of four imaginations into the forty fingers of Farukhabad. This is Ustad Sabir Khan's legacy, his gift to his Gharana and to Indian classical music.
