Makes perfect sense. At the time the Suzuki was the best to ride on the road. Then the bimmer came out and it was the best to ride on the road. And fair enough, the Suzuki is still the best leader bike to ride on the street out of the Japanese 4.

I had GSXR behind me yesterday and I knew it would be quicker than me but went for it anyway which was all going well until he undertook me (still OK) but then a Transit pulled out to avoid a broken down classic car. We both missed the van but was one of those heart in the mouth moments. GSXR looked great and the guy had classic leathers which seemed appropriate although probably 70's brown now.

Crashed my K6 around 10 years ago now in the Picos and it was written off. Moved onto Bimmer S1000R (rubbishe) and then Tuono 1100 V4's (great), but alway miss my Gixer. This vid brought back all the hoonery that took place back in the day and was genuinely laughing out loud from the static throttle blipping to the multiple overtakes. Fantastic vid guys. Really funny. Have to look out for that new Gixer now when it relaunches.

In 1998, I bought a TL1000R (here in the US). I fought with it for 8 years, thinking I was just a shit rider, until I test rode a new, K6 750. I was and still am a shit rider, but it was so much easier to ride, and I never looked back. I've also had an L2 1000. They were always fantastic bikes that did exhibit some cheapness in fairing thickness, cracking turn signals, etc. in 2018 I bought a new GSX-R1000R. I know it's been panned, even by Al and Chris, but I think it's the best big GSX-R ever made. It has LOADS of midrange torque, 185 whp from just a can, and it's smaller than many 600s. Best of all, it's comfortable and has some thoughtful features. The only thing I added of value, was cruise control from MC Cruise. I watched Chopsie install it, and that was it for me. It's the perfect bike, IMO. Thanks as always for the top quality content.

I’ve got an 2017 1000 that I absolutely adore. Developments in chassis technology is incredible when I ride it back to back with my k6 600. The new chassis 1k feels just as light and flickable. You definitely feel the difference in weight by the end of a track day though. I’m definitely more worn out after riding the 1k all day.

The "new" engine with the mechanical VVT dropped the internal counterbalance shaft. Potentially gaining vibration and harshness compared to all the 1L engines that came before it. Certainly got with the program with big horsepower but not sure the NVH increases can be worth it sometimes. Really wish 1100 and 1200cc engines would come back.
@RossWeitzner3 ай бұрын
@@exothermal.sprocket I don't notice any additional NVH over the L2. Is it, scientifically, measurably harsher? Maybe. But I don't notice it.

Late 80's early 90's the gixxer 750 was the only superbike to have. Obviously slow by today's standards but back then nothing could touch them, not even the 1100 - yeah in a straight line maybe but I'd be round the outside of them on the next bend giggling nervously in the face of the grim reaper. I migrated to a 750L in 1990 from an '85 500LC and was absolutely astounded what 5 years had done to bikes. Went on to an M the year after, wrote it off then stepped down to an RGV250 before back on another M then in ´95 bougt a 916 and have only had ducs since then... Nostalgia is kicking in now tho and wouldn't mind another L in the shed... Great bikes gixxers, lots of mad mad fond memories.

My K4 was a superb motorcycle for everything I wanted to do -track days ✅ -1000miles in 24 hours through Europe comfortable ✅ -bulletproof reliability ✅ (except regular) -absolute hoot on a Sunday blast ✅ Ps the reason why GSXR look more used than R1s or Fireblades because GSXR are used all year round! Plus because they were cheepish to buy people didn't properly care for them. Epick Video Boy. Ps I'm still checking used bike offers because I want my yellow and black 1000K4 with an Akrapovic exhaust and an up only quickshifter - because Gixxer Brahs know how to blip the throttle on the way down ⬇️🎤

Awesome gents. As an ex Australian Superbike Team Suzuki racer predating all the modern tech nannies there are two arguments here. The naughties ones in full race spec made more power than what a brand new stock one does. Yet still rideable. Just one reason why arguably one of the best racers on two wheels decided to retire early in his career. I’m speaking of Casey Stoner who was against having all the electronic rider aids which has always made me think if they didn’t would Marquez be regarded as high as he is if his bulk of racing was without them. We will never know. You can go back further to the Big Bang days. I’ve been fortunate enough to have ridden one around Phillip Island, my old home track, and although I know it well, the last of the 500 two strokes were an absolute handful which is why that generation was unbelievable!

Many hardcore Gixxer guys were pissed that Suzuki traded the midrange of the K5/K6 in for the additional top end of the K7/K8. They also were pissed about the addition of rider modes. From K1-K6, you were considered a GOD if you could ride the big Gixxer quickly without killing yourself or highsiding it into next year. You knew back then, that if you couldn't catch the guy in front that was on a Gixxer 1000 in the twisties, it was because he could actually RIDE. No IMU, no cornering ABS, no traction control, no lift control, no "B" mode, no hydro clutch. Just skill and balls. It all explains why the K7/K8, while being slightly more powerful and faster, will always play second fiddle to the the K5/K6. The K5/K6 was the last fully analogue 1000 Suzuki ever made.

The GSX-S1000/GT/GX carries that classic K5 mill onward and upward.... with mods of course. The amount of speed shops, drag racers, landspeed guys that have modified the living poo out of the K5 engine is endless. There's multiple shops that can pull it apart and do the headwork and stroker crank and bore and valve jobs and compression and all the rest and end up with 210 wheel HP and near 100 ft-lb. And it holds up. In stock form the K5 engine has been abused, swapped, beat on, frozen, drowned and it just keeps going.

Rumours suggest it may have a shift-cam type system but in true Suzuki style it's more likely going to be a tarted up version of the last one. If they give it a decent dash, better electronics & brakes & make it a bit lighter, that'll do nicely as it doesn't really need any more power.
