Hi Wendy, please let me know once you try this adjustment. I just did a fitting retreat a week ago with my customers. Everyone I did this forward shoulder adjustment for had a perfect fitting sleeve at the end.

Oh my goodness, this is the simplest instruction I have seen to resolve my forward shoulder issue!!! Thank you so much. It would be wonderful to learn adjustments for raglan and shoulder seams that are not on top of the shoulder as well. My bone goes about as forward as yours. Thank you again for the concise instruction.

Amazing. I don't think I need this process personally, but it's incredibly helpful having such a great explanation to better understand what various changes do to each piece of the pattern and how to alter them accordingly. Thanks so much!! Subscribed ☺️ Edit: Well isn't that something...I just went and tried on a blazer that fits almost perfectly but has always felt a little odd in the arms -- I have a slightly forward shoulder! 😲 Same goes for a Vogue pattern I tested out with a mock-up. It's literally only a cm but makes all the difference. This is such a breakthrough, thank you! 🥳

Thank you for this video! Changing the sleeve cap this way has solved my problem of never having the sleeve cap fit properly. I have a “very forward shoulder”. I also have a small chest front measurement as well as rounded upper back. They were fitting fine but my sleeve caps never went in smoothly. I’ve always had to try resetting several times. You and Glenda are wonderful for my aging 78 year-old body. Love sewing, fitting, not so much😅!

A well presented topic! Have been learning to draft sewing patterns and do have a forward shoulders too. So while my main bodice patterns reflect the change through my measurements (mainly for the shoulder slope) I didn't know how to adjust the sleeve pattern to fit properly. Thank you for sharing this - your explanations really make it easy to understand the reasons behind your alterations.

As a post script to my comment below, I just completed a jacket using your method to adjust the sleeve cap for forward shoulder. (I also adjusted my front and back bodice pieces at the low shoulder the same amount) I am totally amazed at how well everything fits -- besides having a comfortable sleeve and the shoulder seam staying put (not wanting to pull to the back), I no longer have my center front at the bottom hem wanting to pull to one side! Hard to believe one small adjustment could have such a big impact. Wanted you to know how much benefit implementing this change made for me!

This is wonderful, one silly question. Where do we put the notch at the top of the sleeve cap that matches up with the shoulder seam? That is, does the original shoulder point remain the same?
@ElsabeHurn
@ElsabeHurn Жыл бұрын
The notch that is originally marked on the cap moves forward when we shift the cap. You use that notch to line up with your new shoulder seam point.
@vminifie837
@vminifie837 Жыл бұрын
@@ElsabeHurn I think I see it now, the original notch stays the same because it has moved forward with the cap. Thanks

Elsabe, would this still work if I had to move one shoulder seam forward as much as 1.25 inches? Both shoulders roll forward; my right so much more than the left. Thank you.
@ElsabeHurn
@ElsabeHurn Жыл бұрын
The most I’ve had to move forward is 3/4”. You will have to test it on your body and see what happens. Please come back and let me know how it works out

What is the name of the tool you used in another video to measure the circumference of the arm hole? It looked kind of like a rotary cutter, but it measured accurately. Where can I purchase it? I am enjoying your videos, and I have learned so much. Thank you.❤

Hi Shannon, it is called a Curve Runner. I import it from America where it is manufactured. I have it in my online store for my South African customers. Google Curve Runner sewing and it should come up with the product. Hopefully you have someone in your area selling it as it is a very helpful tool to have

How did you decide to add 1/4" to to back bodice width? I don't understand. Should I also add 1/4" to my bodice width?

Thank you! There is NO seam allowance included in your demonstration, correct?
@ElsabeHurn
@ElsabeHurn 6 ай бұрын
Hi Sally, there is no seam allowance. When designing or making changes to patterns we work with the stitching line and then only add the seam allowance. When working with commercial patterns, I measure in from the cutting line and draw my stitching line before making changes. Just make sure what the seam allowance for that pattern is so that the stitch line you draw is correct.
