A wonderful detailed video. I was most interested in your methods to determine armhole depth and body widths from armhole creases (as well as how much ease you suggest for front and back bodices). Thank you -- a great help for anyone drafting patterns and wanting to achieve a good fit!

A well presented topic! Have been learning to draft sewing patterns and do have a forward shoulders too. So while my main bodice patterns reflect the change through my measurements (mainly for the shoulder slope) I didn't know how to adjust the sleeve pattern to fit properly. Thank you for sharing this - your explanations really make it easy to understand the reasons behind your alterations.

This was like a Master Class for me! Thank you! What kind of knit was this? Looks like a Ponte? Can you share the weight?
@ElsabeHurnАй бұрын
Thank you for watching. The fabric is from my stash, so I am not sure what the fabric content is. It has a more textured feel than Ponte, but with the same stretch and drape as a Ponte

Also wondering how you managed to sew with such thick difficult fabric? Please share your hints and tricks! I think the idea of even trying to cut out of thick knits would make me feel - how do you pin the pattern on/ stop stretching out of shape when you’ve cut it? So many questions- apologies!

Thank you Elsabe. Towards the end of the video, you mentioned that you shortened the front crotch length by 1cm. Did I understand correctly that you pinned out a wedge from center front seam just below the tummy and decreasing to nothing at the side seam hip area, but then you made the adjustment by taking off the 1cm at the top of the waist area for expediency? For the final pattern, would you do the pattern adjustment just below the tummy area or at the waist level? The net measurements would be the same either way, but would the fit be any different between the two adjustments?

Thank you Elsabe ❤ how do you manage for the quite different curvature of your pants (front & back) in the hip area? Isn't it difficult to mach in sewing? Did you verify that the side seamlines have the same length for front and back?
@ElsabeHurn2 ай бұрын
I had no problem with the curved seams. As you saw on my photo my pants seam was smooth. I always measure my inseam measurement when drawing my pattern and when I true my pattern I check my side seam. I think if I had more of an extreme curve it would change the length, but in this case I had no issues with the side seams.

Thank you very much. This is very enlightening. I do have one question: With the redistributed ease, isn't the side seam of the back panel a tad longer in the hip area than the side seam of the front panel? It looks that way on the video around 29.05 and following where you show the two pattern pieces stacked on top of each other. So how do you sew it together, ease the back portion? Thank you.
@ElsabeHurn2 ай бұрын
When I pinned it together it matched without having to ease it in. I actually got a smooth seam.

Very interesting Elsabe! Just a question about the different shapes your side seams have at the low hip area, ie the back was curvier than the front, doesn't that mean the back side seam is longer than the front side seam? Did you need to ease in the back pattern to the front, or did you hand that in some other way? thanks so much :-)
