Basically what the developers did for every each cars' sound were just alter the sound from the previous assets and tweak them with minor changes, instead of overhaul the sound designs by making a new one. That's a one huge lazy ass effort right there. And one more thing, WHY DA FUCK is the brake is so quick to glow even for just minor braking? It's so annoying!

So many ppl moaning about sounds, not realising the leading sound engineer Mike Caviezel left after FM6 and FH3, to work for Polyphony Digital on GT Sport. They why the sounds in FM7 and FH4 have changed to much. PG nor T10 can used the sound he did as he owns the copyright to them, as there his work.

Still, for me this is cheap explanation why everything went wrong. It's not possible that one person can make that difference. You need to remember that there's dedicated team to record car audio. I think that big deal here is quantity and the fact that back in FM4 days, cars where recorded on dynos and not on the tracks like with FH4. And PG don't give a F about car sounds, they did a short video in one of they livestreams on how they record cars and that's it. Case closed. Not guilty.

I think I know what you mean. Like the P1 sound on FH4 is bad but when you listen to it when a friend is in next to you revving it, it's the P1 sound from FM7. Much better sound and it's not the only car that like that, the Chiron is another one.

As a game developer myself, here's my take on this entire situation: If this was an indie game, the sounds would've been fixed within a few months. If many players are strongly fighting for something to be changed in your game, you HAVE to listen to them, even if you only can work with halfway compromises. Work on the car sounds should have been started the moment people were talking about how dissatisfied they were with them, because it's beyond important to communicate and work with your fans. Yes, sometimes fans demand things that are way out of scope, but better sounds? That's doable, especially if other sounds like natural foliage is top notch and things like the graphic fidelity get so much attention (except for the player character animations they look awful, DiRT 5's hands look better lmao) These devs need to do their research, listen to real life cars as well as player's favorites from other games, really get a clear understanding of what they like/don't like. Put out surveys and tests if you have to, get some of the most expensive and skilled audio engineers money can hire, do absolutely whatever it takes to regain player trust because at this point any bond between players and the devs is non existent at this point, hardcore players pretty much straight up hate the devs. If they don't improve Horizon 5 in all aspects, and really try to "wow" players, I won't be getting the 5th game, and many others won't either. You HAVE to listen to your playerbase, especially if they're metaphorically chucking rocks at you. For my platformer game, I've had players tell me they didn't like the twin stick control scheme, so I changed it to a more traditional feeling one, and they like it much better, and I like it too! See? Even I can listen to players. Hell, I even updated the sounds in my own game for things like player weapons; had to spend some money buying sound assets but I didn't go cheap and it paid off. I tried to get the best sounding effects I could find and players seem to be happy with them. If a single college student making some lame action platformer can update the sound effects for his game, a corporate studio can do the same.

What they did to the Porsche 918 Spyder in FH4 is absolutely terrible. I had like 7 918 Spyders because of the engine sound. Same goes for the 2014 Lamborghini Huracan. I really hope the change the 918’s, Huracan’s and other car sounds in FH4.

I hate that all V12’s are just based on the Ferrari V12 noise. The sound of the High reving V8’s in the RS4/5 and M3 are awful and generic FH3 was better, and they’ve given all the AMG’s the exact same sound. When there’s quite a difference from the 6.2 5.5 and 4.0. They’ve really butchered the sounds in this game which sometimes makes it so hard to play.

There's a lot of minor details that Horizon 4 is missing from Horizon 3. The daytime running lights on cars are either off or extremely dim compared to Horizon 3. On cars with handbrakes there's an animation where your hand goes off the wheel and reaches for the handbrake in Horizon 3 when they should always be on. Horizon 4 doesn't have that. When driving through sand during night time the particles behind the car glow bright when you brake in Horizon 3. Also, Horizon 3 just looks more beautiful compared to Horizon 4. Colors are much more vibrant

After Forza Motorsport 7, Forza Horizon 4 was doomed from the start. Even if Forza Motorsport 7 introduced a new sound engine there's still no excuse for what Turn 10 and Playground Games have given us. They tried for about 20% of the game in terms of audio, the rest is copy and paste.

I think that FH3 has *overall* better sounds/audio. Some of them in FH4 have a better low-mid rev range sound like the Huracan and the R8 etc... while the cars in FH3 overall have e better rev range of sounds and accurate/realistic to the engine type. Tho i love how some people who defend FH4's overall car sounds always come up with the worst excuses ever made, like; "FH4 has a lot more cars in it's car list, so we shouldn't complain about how it doesn't sound as good. If you think it's so easy then go find the "X car" from 50 years ago and go record it on an airfield in proper weather to get the proper sound!" Look i know it's hard to do these things, and i'm not a developer/coder, let alone a sound designer, so i can't act or say that it's easy, but from what i'm looking at FH3 had these cars already and they had good/better sounds, yet for some reason the same cars in FH3 sound worse in FH4 ? How does that make any sense ? And is quantity a good excuse to ignore quality ? This is my problem with that dumb excuse, i don't care how many cars we have in FH4, half the cars in it aren't even used as much. Why put in tons of cars if you can't give them good quality (sounds as an example) ? It's suppose to be quality over quantity, that's why other games with a smaller car list have better sounds. It's because they chew what they can swallow, they don't bite off more then they can chew, and then be to lazy to swallow it down. Again i know it's not easy, but if they were smart about it they would first look at the amount of cars they can record/handle and work with, based on that quantity they will look for the cars that are easy to find, record, and put detail on for the quality, and in that they will also search for the cars that are in high demand or ask the players what they want to see in the next game for a good idea and inspiration. This way you get the proper quality sounds, the proper quantity of a car list that everyone can enjoy. They can also build up on this to increase the size of the car list for players and content, they won't always be perfect and we understand that, and we won't complain as long as they improve over time, but in the case of FH4 we already know they can be better since they are in FH3. I went on a full on rant there but i just wanted to give my thoughts really, if anyone disagrees that's fine, it's our opinions after all.
