Fossil preparation - Jurassic Dapedium fish from Lyme Regis (200 million years old)

This video shows the reverse prep of a classic Dapedium fish from the famous fossil hunting location of Lyme Regis. This was done using a Zoic Palaeotech Microraptor pneumatic air scribe to remove the matrix. During the video you’ll sometimes see me use some liquid over areas exposed - this is a diluted Paraloid B72 consolidant which helps conserve fragile fossils - particularly fish scales.

Sure is! Interestingly this fossil was found over 100 years ago but had never been prepped. New pneumatic air tools make prepping so much easier than it was with a hammer and nail 100 years ago.
