The timelapse preparation of a partial Plesiosaur (most likely Hauffiosaurus) from the Yorkshire Coast. This dates back 180 million years to the Toarcian period of the Jurassic. The block contains 5-6 dorsal vertebrae, a partial limb bone, many rib heads and some paddle bones.

Looking at the ammonite and thus understanding that it's the way up, i wonder if there's ever been such a severe reversal of the ground layers that one of these wound up upside down from where it was initially formed. I know there's vertical ones (the dinosaur footprint cliff and a few others) but never seen one upside down. Regardless, great prep!

What are the telltale signs this might be Hauffiosaurus rather than one of the local cryptolidids? As an aside, the name Hauffiosaurus, being derived from the German name Hauff (an important family in the history of the fossils of Holzmaden), would be pronounced with an "au" as in "ouch!". Stunning specimen, though! And excellent prep-work!
