Oh excellent, a fossil hunting vid to watch with my morning coffee! It's cool and drippy here, was awakened by thousands of those pesky starlings roosting in the trees across the way from me, all yelling at once, LOL. Are there any regulations as to what you can take home/keep of bones and such? I was curious if you were allowed to keep the whale bones if you could bring them home :)
@MamlamboFossils4 жыл бұрын
Fossils are regulated here in New Zealand meaning you can collect on the beach but not sell or send them out the country and they encourage you to let a local museum know if you find something. I email the museum photos of what I find and donate anything to them that they want to study. You never know, you might get something named after yourself! 😁
@jfmaniac51184 жыл бұрын
@@MamlamboFossils That's great! I believe last I checked, anything with bones here in the US you have to record/send gps coordinates to the paleo society or someone like that and they will then unearth it :) maybe I'm completely wrong, it's been years since I looked at the laws really. I will give ANYTHING to have a peace of a Mamlambosaurus :)
@stephengroff6334 жыл бұрын
@@jfmaniac5118 generally there are no regulations of that kind in the US, exept on federally owned land. There are however some states that regulate collecting, but there is quite a lot of variation from state to state. Also there is no real offical society for paleontology in the US, the closest things would be the Smithsonian which handles most all federal fossil specimens (however they don't at this time accept many new specimens exept for very important ones), and the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology which is a non government organization that has no authority over collecting (they just loby the government for regulations which as I previously stated only apply on federally owned land).

If there ever would be a competition like a ´´Paleo Ironman´´you have the best chances to win the cup. You are a kind of Apterygiformes Kiwi giganteus, i guess! The geologists say that the plates move; It seems that YOU move at least half of both islands! Have a nice time, greets from a fossil addict;-)

Hahahaha that's awesome! The crazy thing is that between morning and evening, the beach can completely change because of the tide moving a few million tons of sand and rock!
