Not really grail games for me, but I found Meadow, Photosynthesis, Dominion, Dominion Prosperity, and Captain Sonar at a thrift store last week! They were all priced between $2-4 USD. re "Hare & Tortoise": In the Ravensburger Version the Tortoise was turned into a Hedgehog (Igel) and the game "Hase & Igel" actually won the very first "Spiel des Jahres" in 1979. The latest version I just found on BGG is from 2019 under the "Ravensburger Klassiker" (Ravensburger Classics) line. In Germany they are literally giving old versions of the game away for free at flee markets and online classified sites.

The little mice in Mouseguard are SO cool and it has a lovely wooden board, perfect cabin game for us! I agree with the cover, I like displaying it. BGB should get it in again, it pops up every now and then 😊

Oh WOW! IDW Games' TMNT: AUGS gets a shout-out! I never see anyone talk about this game! Change is Constant and City Fall are my #1 games of all time! It's mostly because of the IP (pretty faithful adaptation of a beloved comic book of my favourite comic book family/team) but it's also a really solid game design. I went for the All the Loot Bundle on the Kickstarter - still my most expensive one. But it was totally worth it. I had to have gotten nearly 100 hours of gameplay out of it and I still haven't explored all the content. I hope you can find Change is Constant somewhere affordably! Jump on it if you do!

For Shakespeare: it’s originally a French game so you could order used from France. The rules will be in French but you can still play the game as there isn’t writing on the cards or board. It would be cool to do a list of games you like that are out of print

Gotta love the Star Craft shout out! Loved the PC game back in the day, though I never kept up with the sequels, sadly. I can speak a little to Shakespeare, which is a fun pick. I read some reviews, kept seeing that lots of people were saying "this is a dry euro game, it couldn't have been any theme, the mechanics aren't connected to it at all"... and I think they couldn't be more wrong. As a theatre person with reasonable knowledge of Shakespeare's time, I can say the designers definitely did their WORK. The nods to certain things like which characters help your play in a particular act and the wonderful character designs are fantastic. And the mechanics themselves are really solid-we found it to be surprisingly tense and engaging for something that's very close to single player solitaire, and the whole thing was really really charming (and I think you'd agree even without being theatre nerds like me and my gaming group.) I see it pop up decently often on the Facebook Board Game Exchange group, so maybe poke around there if you're looking for a copy. It'll sometimes show up on Noble Knight's listings, though I don't know what their shipping rates are to Canada, sadly.

For any of the international games, if the only barrier is getting them shipped to Canada you can always use a proxy shipping service. They're kind of expensive, but loads of anime figure collector youtubers have discount codes for ones based in japan

Jeff, you probably already know this, but if you're interested in Kingdom Death Monster, you could try Aeon Trespass Odyssey. It basically uses the same Boss Battler system, but without the unsettling S&M imagery. So if you're interested in it for the game mechanics rather than the adolescent nipple-count; the Pledge Manager for the recent reprint of ATO has just opened, with an intro-game level of c.$100 (113 Euros).

I live in BC near the Washington border. I use a locker service in the US to ship to and then just go and pick up when it arrives. I get an email with a code when a parcel arrives. Get 7 days to pick it up. Get charged $3.50 per package and haven't had to pay any duties when crossing so far. Definitely helps on Ebay and buying from people in US.

Great video! I've been really lucky in the last six months in getting several of my grail games without having to spend an arm and a leg.... including Shakespeare still in the shrink! Others were St.Petersburg, Vikings and Carcassonne The Castle to name a few. Now I am on the hunt for the middle game in the Ken Follett series called World Without End... closest I have come across is a couple German additions in Europe. Good luck on finding your Grails!!

Forbidden Stars and StarCraft are essentially the same game. I think FFG even said it was a reimplementation/reskin of StarCraft the board game.

I tracked down Shakespeare because of the Brothers too. It’s like a 5. UNTIL you put in the expansion and it’s like a 9 approach a 10. I’ll never get rid of my copy, it’s incredible.

I hope you find Fast Sloths and Full Throttle - we enjoy playing both. I recommend trying Value Village or other thrift stores regularly-I go twice a week to VV in US and just found Fauna by Friedmann Friese today for $5.99 US and 2/3 of cards still in shrink. I’ve seen some good modern games like 7 Wonders, Ticket to Ride, Avalon, Parks, etc but the trick is going regularly. Good luck- hope you both find some of these games. I’ll keep my eyes out too.

You might find many Friedemann Friese games in european online shops. World of Games in Switzerland has some of them available although I don't know if they deliver to Canada. I also don't know if his games are mostly language neutral or not.

For your Japanese gaming wants I’d highly recommend Zenmarket, who purchase games on your behalf from Japan and consolidate them into one large package. Definitely worthwhile if you’re after a lot (I just had a shipment of 17 come to me in the UK). Tanuki games and Tricky Imports might be worth looking at if you want to use a middle man rather than do it yourself. Regarding Bus, there are whisperings that Capstone may be reprinting it. In all honesty, the CG version is the way to go with that one. If you want a Splotter version of a game that isn’t FCM then I’d recommend Horseless Carriage - Splotter to the max and reasonably available.

Monster Slaughter is a great and fun game. We break it our every spooky season and the 3d cabin is really fantastic. You should definitely play it when you can. It works better at higher player counts but we play it at 2 and it is still really fun. I'll bring it to Maine next time we come up and we will come to the Board Room game cafe to play it. Love the videos. Great content you two.

have a copy of Ballon cup and Race to Newfound land that I would be happy to maybe work out something to get them into your hands and its here in Halifax ;) I largest grail game I wanted was BUS by splotter which they reprinted a few years ago as an anniversary edition was very happy with that. The anniversary addition actually has the original board art and original pieces along with the capstone version. If you are ever in the city and want to play Bus let me know!

I have Shakespeare and Shadows Over Camelot, Shakespeare is great; Shadows is good at 4, probably better with more players. I’ve played Rurik once with experienced players and that’s not the best way to play. I was out of that game after the first round; it was good though. Never played but used to have Starcraft. Got it for $50 and tried to sell, but ended up trading for Vindication.

nana from Mob+? Some online retailers are importing games from Asia to the U.S. (I don’t know if they ship to Canada). You should probably use a reshipper in Japan to do your own importing (see Jay’s explanation on Cardboard East). This is better in the long run if you will be buying more games from Japan.

StarCraft is like my favorite game of all time. I still watch the professional Broodwar scene. I got StarCraft the board game and was super disappointed. A lot of the pieces are so easy to break and the gameplay was just weird and boring altogether. As for Splotter, I really recommend getting The Great Zimbabwe. Feels easier to table than FCM. I love Shadows over Camelot but, it is as difficult to find, as it is to win. lol Literally just checked and found a copy on clearance of Race to New Found Land online, thanks for that!

I have the German edition of Fast Sloths.... soooo good. I think Jamie would love it, it is an excellent racing game (I mean, it's TECHNICALLY pick-up-and-deliver, but it's REALLY a race game haha). It's not available in English anywhere still, as far as I can tell, and a big part of the Friese issue has to do with his self-owned publishing company being still fairly small. BUT, they did just ink a distribution deal with Rio Grande, so I think some titles are starting to make their way back over; I know Full Throttle (another racing game) is pretty available in the states currently

Nick & Mike (holla to some fellow Sac natives) have gotten me to track down some real grail titles, and Shakespeare is also high up on my list (as a fellow thespian). Also: Remember Our Trip... Amy & Maggie have been poisoning me with all their talk of Japanese game market & Taiwanese games, so I've been trowling some less than reputable websites, trying to score some copies; I know Suzanne (from Salt & Sass) has talked about a Japanese website where you can get a lot of titles, but it's always kind of dicey on the shipping aspect, so I feel your pain on titles that you can get in the States that you just can't get in Canada. I'm a huge Japanophile, tho, and me and Rich have yet to meet a Japanese game we didn't love.

Rurik is a great game. Forbidden Stars I did not care for. Fast Sloths is not a good game at all, imo. Probably okay for younger players but even then I have played much better games.
