He didn’t like the media in Japan because the media in Japan feels like he is not paying his “dues“ if he would wait until he was 25 and then get posted his team would make 50 60 million compared to maybe 1 million when signs acouple of weeks! so the Japanese media is not happy with him, the American media won’t have the same issue
@chuchimp92624 күн бұрын
He also felt that the new york teams are the way they are because the fans and media have great baseball spirits. It's never in malice they just want to win badly
@pochen233 күн бұрын
@@Joe-j1f I think you are thinking of it wrong. His general dissatisfaction for Japan media is that they are too critical of him, not paying his due is just an example of it, they find any reason. This is the same thing as Philly media, NY media etc. Did you see the issue Philly media had with Jalen Hurts on a team that's 12-2? do you remember how much crap Philly fans gave Bryce Harper. That's the issue. LA media doesn't care. Yamamoto would have been destroyed by NY media for missing 2 months with a strain rotator cuff and would have been destroyed by NY media after getting blown up in Korea vs SD. That's the stuff he doesn't want.
@pochen233 күн бұрын
I think it is very unlikely he will want to go to a small market team despite many seem to say that. He wants to win, and smaller market team has a disadvantage in winning. His preference to not want to be the center of focus could very much add to the Dodger's chance in signing him since he will have Ohtani and Yamamoto to shield him a bit.

Let’s just hypothetically say he was a free agent like Yamamoto. What kind of contract is he getting? More than his? I can’t imagine he would want to sign some crazy 12 or 15 year deal.

I think that Asian born sports players like to sign with west coast teams in the USA. If for example they want or half to see family or friends in Asia - well it's a little bit easier to do this from California or Seattle. I have heard from a few people "That's no big deal !" "You don't know what you are talking about!" / No big deal eehh? What if a trainer came into the clubhouse and said "We just got word that something is wrong with your brother in Japan" . "Something VERY wrong". / Now what???
@ramongonzalez66534 күн бұрын
Although I don't have faith that Roki Saski will sign with Yankees because I hear he wants to play in west coast and what to play for smaller city. Now if Roki is considering an East Coast team then I believe Yankees have a shot even if it mean competing with Mets. Met would not be able to outbid Yankees on Saski because Sasaki's contract will fall under that $25 million threshold because At age 23, Sasaki is subject to international bonus pool money restrictions, as he’s under 25 and has less than six seasons of service time in a foreign league recognized by MLB!
@josuedelatorre354 күн бұрын
Joel Wolfe advised Sasaki not to think about money but to think more about the long term. It’s not gonna be a bidding war, it’s gonna be a matter of who can set him up for success

Senga signed with the Mets, Sugano with Baltimore, Tanaka the Yankees, Matsuzaka and Yoshida with Boston, Suzuki and Imanaga with the Cubs, Kikuchi with Mariners, and Darvish with Rangers initially. I don't know about the Yankees, but I think the Mets do have a chance because they were successful in recruiting Senga, who used to be the ace pitcher for Softbank Hawks.

@@johndurrer7869That's nothing new to be honest. Dodgers were well-known in Japan since the 1990s when they had Nomo Hideo. They also had Saitoh Takashi, Ishii Kazuhisa, Maeda Kenta, Kuroda Hiroki, and Darvish who were all accomplished pitchers in NPB. The other well known teams used to be Seattle Mariners because of Ichiro, and Yankees because of Matsui. Japanese fans support individual players like Ohtani, or rather if he were playing for a different team, they will be rooting for that team and not the Dodgers. And Japanese kids who play baseball will often have one NPB and one MLB team as their favorite. Sasaki reportedly liked the Rakuten Eagles because he's from Tohoku region. That doesn't mean they always pick or get to play for that team in their professional career.

@jdsthird4 күн бұрын
I think he wants to win WS and be competitive during his 6 years as a rookie to set him up for free agency. Padres are not perennial playoff contenders. They are bust every other year. Too many aging players with bloated contracts and they are cutting payroll for the second year in a row. Not good for a team trying to contend. They only want Roki because he’s cheap and they can’t afford players in free agency.
@yo2trader5394 күн бұрын
Sasaki has been famous in Japan since highschool. He was the #1 draft choice for 4 out of 12 NPB teams. Not many highschool kids can pitch over 160km/h, so everybody who plays or follows baseball in Japan knows Sasaki Roki. He has been dubbed 令和の怪物 or Monster of Reiwa Era, since his highschool years. The only two who pitched over 160km/h in highschool that I'm aware of is Ohtani Shohei and Fujinami Shintaro. They were all #1 draft choices in their final year of highschool.
@johndurrer78694 күн бұрын
Being the villain to Ohtani is not something that will make him more popular in Japan. That’s their Babe Ruth. There is no way for a pitcher to become better than Ohtani, unless they hit too. It’s best to either join him or go somewhere that isn’t a direct threat to him. Like a team in the AL instead. The Yankees would’ve been perfect if they didn’t cheer Ohtani’s injury

Lucky for us dodger fans, Japanese people seem to not have the same egotistical mindset that most American and Latin players have. I doubt he cares about who gets more of the spotlight. LA gives him the best chance to win and he'll have plenty of endorsement opportunities in the LA market.
