My friend Karen picked up a pink and gray small backpack-style purse at one of the thrift stores, and was using it one day when we'd gone to the fabric store to liberate some fabric. She checked out before I did, and when I walked out the entryway, she was sitting there with a shocked look on her face. She'd stuffed her receipt from Joann's into one of the many little zipper pockets on the purse, and when she went to retrieve it, found THREE one-hundred dollar bills and a Canadian ten!

FYI trivia info on the Cabage patch. Xavier Roberts attended an annual craft/art show held at Stone Mountain Georgia in the fall of 1976 or Spring of 1977. There was a vendor there making the original soft dolls out of old time cotton hose. Xavier took notice and brought the dolls back to his hometown of Cleveland Georgia. He branded and patented the dolls as Cabbage Patch and built the hospital, Babyland General, for them to be born in. Matel toy company bought the rights to produce the plastic head version of the dolls and those dolls were mass produced. You ask what's up with all the dolls? There was resurgence of dolls during that time period. Beanie Babies, Cabbage Patch, Talking/Wetting dolls, GI Joe, Barbie etc. and full grown adults were buying and collecting.

I love to collect old photographs... wish I could find some in a box out for trash! It is crazy to think that people do throw them out instead of keeping them, but you never know the situation (house clean out, estranged relative, etc.).

I think people throw out old photos because they don’t know who they are. It’s important to put names and dates with details for future generations.

Hey Mike do you ever find 1960's tube color TV's or tube Hi-Fi console stereos out on your curbside runs? If you ever find Hi-Fi consoles with tube amps, from brands like Magnavox, RCA, Motorola, Zenith, or since you're in Texas, Curtis- Mathes, there is a market for them. Either from collectors that want to restore them, or tube audio guys that want to re-purpose the amplifiers for standalone use if the cabinets are too trashed to salvage. Early color TV's that have all-tube chassis have a dedicated cult Vintage TV collector following, especially the Pre-1965 sets that have 21" perfectly round CRT's. Collectors call them "roundies." Really, pretty much anything you find that's old enough to have tubes in it is at least worth grabbing and throwing up on Craigslist or FB marketplace. If you ever end up finding anything like this, I'd be happy to help you identify what you have and potentially find collectors in your area. Too much of this irreplaceable stuff ends up in the landfill every year, and I'm trying to stop that.

I took a pile of old negatives to a local art school. The assistant dean POUNCED on them for his kids to mess with. A school might want the photographs too. No clue about the toys; I'm older than they are! The rocks are older than me - in person I could make some guesses but I can't see them from here. The amethyst chunks and that solid geode were obvious, but the rest are more difficult.
