I would have loved those units you brought Jeremy, what a bargain and I think just that unit will more than pay for both of them. I thought the 2 guns were old by the look of them not realising they make reproductions. Then to hear you tell us the dates on them, I am so happy for you. We are having the same shortages here in the shops, it's a sad reflection on the stores who should ration things like one of our large supermarkets is. The amount of new things then the antiques just in that unit leaves me itching to see you unbox both the units. Guapo and Chapo were as stunned as you were bless them and you of course lol. Interesting info from Wikipedia: In 1877, Smith & Wesson discontinued production of its other Model 3s such as the American, Russian, and Schofield-in favor of a new improved design called the New Model Number Three. This new model has a longer cylinder allowing it to fire longer cartridges. Standard chambering was .44 Russian, although other calibers were offered on special order or in related models such as the .44-40 Frontier Model, the .32-44 & .38-44 Target Models, and the very rare .38-40 Winchester Model.[4] Also interesting: Wells Fargo and Company purchased the Model3 revolvers for use by Wells Fargo Road Agents and had the barrels shortened to a more concealable 5 inches length. These revolvers were then inspected by the Wells Fargo armorer and uniquely stamped "W.F. & Co" or "Wells Fargo & Co", along with the original Smith & Wesson serial number re-stamped alongside the Wells Fargo stamping on the flat part of the barrel just forward of the barrel pivot as well as re-stamping any part of each revolver which had not originally been stamped or stamped in a location that would be difficult to view the serial number, when needed.

That musket was one made in Europe that was purchased by agents buying arms for either the North or the South-they bought any rifle available to outfit their armies at the start of the Civil War. As production of US arms ramped up, these foreign arms were relegated to storage.

It's not a Smith & Wesson. That gun was made by Forehand & Wadsworth in Massachusetts. The company was later taken over by Hopkins & Allen . On the grip it states clearly F&W as also on the barrel it say Forehand & Wadsworth. Nice find.

One way to get a good idea of the age of a muzzleloader is the look in the barrel and c if it is rifled or smooth bore. If rifled it will be worth more couse thy were harder to make . And cost more to purchase
