Has to be the book for me. I absolutely love stories like these. My mind goes back in history trying to put myself in that era. The times are so different, trains, stadiums etc... I would love it. Great memories and great stories.

Cool story with such a mysterious twist. The book is an awesome piece of baseball history.....one of a kind. Obviously the favored piece of the whole lot. The postcards, the tickets, the scorecards, and whatever else was in there would call my name as well, so I would not be able to pick one item. We were at a storage building sale in 2019 and I saw a pile of “trash” in the corner. I asked about it and was told it was just trash. I picked up a vintage bible from around 1900 that was missing the cover and some pages. He wouldn’t let me have the “trashed bible” unless I gave him $20, which I did. The etchings and drawings that remained were simply beautiful as were the fonts used on special pages. I had planned to cut all of those out and frame them. I had it in the car when a conversation came up at church about old items. I got it and showed it to those involved in the conversation . I let one of the history buffs take it home to look through. I asked about it a month later. He thought I gave it to him and he donated it to out local historical center. 🙄 Not a story about cards, but......

Such a cool story, 340 autos is wild! I actually have an awesome random item that was found in the trash (by my dad, as well which is a 1936-37 NHL scrapbook that ppl who have seen said is HOF worthy. The book is truly INCREDIBLE, in GREAT shape, the owner has the best handwriting ever, 1st off, which really stands out/makes it easy to read for something nearly century old, and he kept track of every game right up to the Red Wings beating the Rangers in the Stanley Cup. It seems he is from the Boston area, since that's where my old man found it & there's more Bruins coverage (as well as all their stats) over any of the other teams, but it does have newspaper contributions from all 8 teams back then. I'd be happy to send you a short vid I have of it; it's currently at another LCS, where my mentor was sharing with a hockey fanatic. I have been wanting to make a KZbin video of it, so after watching your video here, I am going to get it back today! lol

What your talking about how modern players look at kids today who want autographs due to the modern autograph craze. I can remember that was beginning to get insane back in the late 1980s. As a kid I grew up in southern Virginia and my dad used to take me when he could to Braves games in Atlanta because it was the closest MLB team to us so a few times a year dad would get tickets to a weekend game back in the early 80s and we would drive down on a friday night. Dad would get the family a motel room and we would all go to a Saturday game in Atlanta and root for the Braves. I can remember back then feeling so thrilled that before games there was the possibility that some players may walk over to the sideline and sign a few autographs for fans. I used to take cards with me and over the years managed to get a few autographs that way. The biggest player autos I got were Len Barker, Glenn Hubbard, Bruce Benedict and a few others. I dreamed of getting Dale Murphy or Bob Horner but was never lucky enough to be able to get close enough to either to ever have a chance. But I was thrilled with those I did get. I also got a baseball signed by former braves pitcher Gene Garber. I still have that ball actually. But as a kid that was hugh to me. But I will never forget hearing on TV in the late 1980s that Jose Canseco who was the biggest name in the game after 1988's 40/40 season. They told on the news back in 1989 I believe that Canseco at that time was demanding $50 per autograph from fans at games because Canseco said that too many dealers were getting him to sign and then selling it to card shops which were everywhere in those days. I guess ever town of much size had a shop that sold sports cards in the late 80s due to the popularity in those days of the hobby. I remember thinking I didnt care how good Canseco was that he wasn;t worth no $50 dollars because $50 could buy me a ton of baseball cards...lol Which is really could in those days at 45-50 cents a pack. But I remember that was in the pre internet days still and dealers were already hounding star players for autographs just to turn right around and sell them. I remember it seems like there was an incedent where George Brett cursed a guy out who Brett said kept hounding him for an autograph. Brett was not one to sign usually for anyone but Brett didnt like the fact the same guy was showing up at Royals games it seemed like every day asking for his autograph. Brett had apparently signed for the guy once because the guy kept on but then Brett remembered him and knew the fact the guy kept coming back he must be a dealer. Sorry so long a comment just I love talking baseball and your video made me decide to share a memory from my childhood.

Hi Mike! I think I came across your Channel via either Reserved Investments, or via the video you did on the Fantast comic stash. Like many, my trading card collecting peaked in the 1990s, and I left the hobby altogether c. 2003, and haven't returned (although I have a bizarre ritual of keeping tab of current prices). I'm not into collecting Funkopops, Pokemon, comics, or any other toys etc. (other than having a 1990s wrestling figure collection that gathers dust in storage, but I've been unable to mentally let go of, as it was part of my childhood). My vice is autograph collecting, historical documents, and (to a lesser extent) coins. Always been into the historical side of collecting, and framing the item within its historical context. Just writing this message to commend you on your fantastic series on 'attic finds' (as you call them). If you don't restrict yourself merely to pop-culture collectibles and trading cards, there's a plethora of stories out there, which will cater for a wide audience. The car-boot/charity shop (or yard-sales/thrift shops as you call them in the States) find that someone pays peanuts for, that turns out to be worth a fortune... and all the great stories that go with them all. Then there's the how the market itself performs, which is fascinating to me: the man who sold a Patrick Mahomes card and paid off his Mother-in-Law's mortgage. The mass-produced scarcity of beanie babies, PEZ, and now funko pops... and their subsequent bust. The pandemic boom, and post-pandemic bust. The rise and rise of Star Wars (early era) collectibles, and the emergence of third-party graders. I could go on, but will leave it at that. Thoroughly enjoying watching your series (have just subscribed to your Channel). Keep up the GREAT work! 👍

Hey John, Thanks for the kind words! It seems like you’re a guy who appreciates a good story. I have good news: I have a lot of “find” stories to tell, and they span a lot of different collectibles. I also really like your idea of doing stories of people who sold big cards and what they did with the windfall. That might be my next series after I run out of finds. Thanks!

A great story I had not heard. Thanks to the legendary Oliver for bringing it to your attention Mike and for you telling it so well! I’m curious this collection I would have to think would have considerable sentimental value and in fact would be considered an heirloom to the Borsa family. For that reason I’m assuming the people that Mr. Adams bought the trunk from had no connection to the family(unless they had no idea it was in there?). So I’m wondering if the Borsa Family somehow mistakenly left it behind when they moved? For whatever reason Mr. Adams is definitely a fortunate man and he sounds like a true collector which is great. I’m wondering if Adams tried reaching out to the Borsa family? Or with the publicity of the find if any of the Borsa descendants have reached out to Adams. Personally, if I had found these relics and the original owner-or their family reached out to me wanting it back- I’m thinking it would be the right thing to do and probably would. but it would be a difficult decision. What say you?

The who's who book is my favorite item! I would have a hard time parting with it because I love the idea that I would have something that all those past players have a personal connection too. Imagine having an item that all those players signed. Thats worth more than money to me.
