Both my parents served in the army during WW2 in Washington DC. Just before Pearl Harbor, dad was recovering from TB and malaria he caught on Bataan. Everyone left in his unit died on the death march. While recovering from losing half of a lung, he did Arlington National Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and at the White House. He went on to join the Air Force and served over 30 years as a Master Sergeant.

My father in law, Jarrell N Hales was a war hero. He enlisted at 17 years old for WWII and was one of the men that stormed Normandy Beach. He was later blown apart in his back by a grenade and spent 4 years in the hospital recovering the use of his arms again. He was a Purple Heart recipient, and just passed away 2 years ago on Christmas day at the age of 90. He was an amazing man and I loved him like my own father.

cynglo100 The cedar chest is a Lane, from the 1940's. I have my mother's it's in pristine condition and full of my dad's U.S.Marine uniforms. He was the 1st wave to hit the beaches during the invasions of Guadalcanal, Bougainville and Guam. I also have the invasion map of Guam that he carried when he led his men ashore. It's on loan to the local Marine recruiting station here in town. He was a Pfc when he hit Bougainville. When he left the beach 30 days later, he was a Sgt. He got "Blood Stripes" everyone above him was killed. Semper Fi/ Semper Fortis. I was in a total of 6 years during Nam.
