Absolute legend finds!! None of the Antique stores or shops of that flavor around here carry model train stuff. Oh yeah, sure they got toys for toddlers and whatever…but nothing for us wobble pop holder guys! It’s a sad day in Duval County when you want model train stuff and ya gotta drive almost 3 hours away to find anything! We got Model Train show coming this weekend. I’m going to take my two youngest grandkids to it. I’m hoping to score some loco parts and some turn outs, maybe some rolling stock. I’m really excited and my grandkids are too. There’s just nothing better than to bring home what could have been junk and get it running again!!! Sipping vintage tequila is a close second. I’m looking forward to watching your videos on these epic finds!!

Greetings Jeb, Sounds awesome to be attending a train show and having grandkids in tow with you. I agree its a great feeling saving these could be or are "junk" models. Classic Model is the lovely Charlotte Rampling. Love the antique store crawls. You seldom ever find a good buy in one, but you can learn a lot by seeing and handling these trains up close and personal. I find that the "antique mall" and consignment store type places that rent space to individuals can yield some really good buys, especially if you run across one that's going out of business. Keep up the good work!

Hi Ron, KMT was Kris Model Trains. They also made O scale. I have some of their circus cars. They made some pretty good trains. I have the same prewar 1668 gunmetal loco and tender, made 1937-41, Love it. That Marx M-10000 was really overpriced. It started out as a clockwork.

I read about Kris model trains. Then I've been told KMT is a Japanese import. Gunna have to do some research. Yeah I figured the M10K was a clockwork. If it was $75-$100 I probably would score it just because it's an old classic :-)

@@classicmodeltrains The original KMT trains were made from AMT tooling. AMT sold out to Kusan, who continued to produce the AMT line. They ended up selling to a man named Andy Kriswalus, who sold them under the KMT moniker. He ended up selling the tooling to Williams. Williams later sold some of the tooling to K-Line. Under Kriswalus, they only made rolling stock, no locomotives. I wonder if your set was offered for sale by KMT, using another manufacturer for the locomotives, or maybe licensed to another company to produce, using KMT passenger cars. Good finds and an excellent video.

TIL Atlas has been making N-scale stuff for as long as I've been alive! I have two of their locomotives, plus a few pieces of rolling stock - although with recent acquisitions they're now outnumbered by Micro-Trains and Athearn. :) Lots of neat stuff in this vid; particularly liked the Baldwin sharknose near the end. And with you mentioning you're starting over with your layout, well, that's one thing I do like about N scale. While 18" is a pretty tight turn radius in HO, it's more than broad enough to run passenger equipment in N if you choose to do so. OTOH, you can get more detailed with HO, and there's just so much available compared to other scales.
@classicmodeltrains Жыл бұрын
My old radius was 22" and the passenger cars looked silly on them. That 30" should help out a bit. N would be way to small for me to see, but I wished I was younger, I would model it.

Awesome channel, really fun to watch. I think almost any price you paid for the 1688 torpedo was a good deal: your sheer enthusiasm when you got it home likely worth whatever you paid for it. Very handsome loco, and of course unlike a modern made version, that lionel torpedo when made was a model of then cutting edge technology, and real railroad excitement. Just like the M10000 streamliner. They're a snapshot of their time in history, and you get to play with them as well. Believe it or not: those latch couplers on the torpedo were advertised as being automatic... Standard gauge is a good size isn't it: it has presence. Funnily enough, last time I was in holiday in the US, I was expecting (not for any good reason) I'd be tripping over postwar warbonnet F3's, or turbines at next to nothing prices. The reality was a bit of an eye opener. Bought a big hat instead, and drowned my sorrows spending in cowtown instead... FYI, Kusan model trains for KMT, they picked up the old AMT tooling and sold under KMT. US made...

In my collection, I have both A and B units in the Tyco/Mantua Sharks (A unit is powered and B unit is a dummy) along with various Mantua aluminum passenger cars. On a final note, Roco was made in Austria (locate in Europe), not Australia. It's easy to get the two counties confused at a quick glance of the writing.

Those are some pretty cool finds, I’m kind of getting into the hobby of model railroading (because I totally need another expensive hobby lol). Anyways, I was at my local antique mall and I scored a Marx triple six for $17.50. Pretty sure that was a good deal. I also got an old gray Lionel 221 for another $17.50. (Unfortunately it is missing its front and rear trucks, but motor runs) It’s whistling tender was also with it, it was an additional $12.50 I’m pretty sure. Do you know anything regarding the 221 far as rarity or value goes? Don’t worry, I’m not some reseller or anything, I’m just new to the hobby and am curious haha. Oh, and I subscribed, I like your content.

the 221 came out in '46-'47. Gray versions '46. Black in '47. the tender should be a sheet metal New York Central with or w/o a whistle. It loosely patterned off the Henry Dreyfuss styled Hudson 2-6-4. in very good condition they are $100.00. if 1 is very common and 8 is very rare the 221 comes in at a 4. I see what’s going on now. In this video I never made reference to eBay selling. The next video, where I’m holding a chainsaw in the thumbnail and am taking apart and redoing the layout, That’s the video that has the link to the eBay seller classicmodeltrains. Very first comment. I’m sorry about the confusion.
