In Northern California in the 60's and 70's the 'Shelby ' club was actually the Shelby-Cobra-Tiger Owners Club and all Tiger owners were as accepted as the owners of rare Cobras. The long time president was Gordon Gimbel whose daily driver was one of the 20 or so slab side 289 Cobras built with a C4 automatic. I got to ride in it a few times!

Boom!! My mind is blown by this episode. As a 15-year-old my friends older brother worked at an exotic car shop, and I had the wonderful experience of riding in a Sunbeam Tiger that he drove. I also rode in a Lotus Europa as we raced up an interstate against a Jaguar. Bret is an amazing caretaker of the Tigers and as always Dennis is the consummate gentleman. What a great episode, keep up the amazing work.

Great video as usual Dennis. I had an early Robin's Egg Blue Tiger Mk1 @46000 miles without the burled walnut dashboard & was told it was one of the 1st 100 cars. Bought it From a Ford Dealer in Toronto in 1970 for asking price of $495 with a crushed 1/4 panel & it was running on 7 Cylinders. We removed the plate in the floor & removed the offending original Autolite spark plug & it ran great. Fixed the 1/4 & repainted it Mustang Grabber Blue for $100. Sold it in the fall for $1100 & thought I made a great deal but of course I should have kept it 😱!

Back in 1965 I worked for John Rose Imports in San Diego, and we were a Sunbeam dealer. As the Sunbeam Tigers would come in to the Port Terminal warehouse in Long Beach, Mr. Rose would send a carload of employees up there to drive the cars back. Lots of fun as I got to drive back a brand new Sunbeam tiger. Cool car!

A dear friend of my late father really like the british sports cars. He owned quite a few, a MGA, MGB, several triumphs and a British racing green sunbeam tiger, ford small block powered of course. My Dad was like a father to him and he had just got it in 68 i believe and he had just gotten engaged and wanted Dad to meet his fiance and see and go for a ride in his sunbeam. Dad said it was "quick". My 65 "k" code Ford Fairlane sports coupe had a Borg Warner T10. It was spinning the driveshaft to 9" with 5:13 gears. Wouldn't do much past 90, but would get there really quickly. Would pull the front wheels off the ground at the dig. I am always impressed with how Dennis treats everyone with respect and his love for these classic cars is evident and how truly appreciative he is that he is blessed to have owned so many and enjoy them and the new friends he makes along the way.

Nice cars! Back in 1984 I worked in a machine shop in Pascagoula MS. We did a valve grind job one one of these cars and at the time I knew nothing about them but I thought it was a cool “build” not knowing it was a production car. That one was black with oversized tires on it, roll bar I think, shoulder belts and other racer stuff. Very sharp. 👍 at the time I was cranking out seven pairs of cylinder heads a day, doing guides, liners, surfacing, spring measuring/shims etc. I remember that one was a small block but I didn’t look up any numbers. We normally didn’t pull heads in the shop but it was a “special” project for the boss, it belonged to one of his friends.

Back in 67 or 68, I was an impressionable young man, I worked as a dishwasher at the Cristopher Restaurant in Park City, Utah. I lived in a small town about thirty minutes away, as did one of the waiters, I needed a ride home and was able to bum a ride from one of the waiters. I have never been more impressed than by the thirty minute ride from Park City, Utah to Heber City, Utah in a Black Sunbeam Tiger, it left an indelible mark on my heart. I understand the desire to possess one of the beasts, you never really own it, you are simply the next caretaker.

Just as the P-51 Mustang benefited and was vastly improved as a result of fitting a British Engine ( or built under license Rolls Royce Merlin ) the A,C Ace ( Cobra ) and the Sunbeam Alpine ( Tiger ) was vastly improved and benefited from an American engine, Just show's how well the U.S.A and the U.K work together when we combine our different qualities

Together we took a 5.0 HO out of a notchback Mustang and "placed it in the Alpine". Its the only car that ever scared me. I've never seen or heard of them again, until now. Great video. Fun fact: Toyo proxy tires are no good for that application, we blew off 3 sets without trying

I use to visit a junkyard near Tomball Texas , the name of it was Booger Reds , his nickname . His yard was full of 60s muscle cars . He had a black Sunbeam onthe yard , it was just a sad walk around , just sitting as it was rotting away. The year was 1995 as I was hunting for parts for a 69 mustang . Luck have it he had the parts I was searching for in the back row . The place is now gone , a baseball field and other developments have since overran the location . I don’t know if someone pulled it out of the yard and saved it for its a rare one to see along heeps of steel .

You briefly mentioned the handling characteristics of the Tiger. My father owned a Rootes dealership in a small town about twenty miles from Coventry. It would have been 1965, I was four years old when he came home in a blue Tiger. I remember quite vividly one typical late autumn/fall evening, my father driving quite quickly. It was raining lightly, it was dark and as he came out of a curve the car span two or three times. We didn't hit anything nobody was hurt, my father looked at me and solemnly said, don't tell your mother. The Tiger was sold shortly after that. I kept our secret for over fifty years and told my mother long after my father had passed. She smiled, he had told her.
