The original female second in command was Roddenberry's wife, right? She eventually played Nurse Chapel and Lwaxana Troi on TNG as well as being the iconic voice for Federation computers on both ToS and TNG.

My favorite character on Star Trek has always and will forever be...Sulu...George Takei!!! Your so much better an actor than Shatner and I looked forward to seeing if you were on each episode I watched as I grew up...Great memories. I only wish I could get to meet you someday....

George Takei comes across as a really decent guy..i have all 156 episodes of The Twighlight Zone and he's in one..so is Shatner in one too. I hope they patch shit up before one of them checks out for good.

Takei is correct about how Star Trek, from a racial and/or point of national origin was a very progressive show, a lot of which has truly come to pass and thankfully so. However where Star Trek lagged behind was that it was too often sexist.

As a kid watching Trek it seemed more like our mixed friendships than the older and somewhat bigoted generation. It looked like a world I'd like to live in.

George, congratulations on being television's first Asian actor to be cast in a non-racially-specific role, and you're part of an industry that refused to cast Bruce Lee as the Chinese lead in 'Kung Fu' because her was "too Asian". Here in Australia, where I once met you, we still haven't reached that level of awareness.

Gene R. was a visionary and George T. is a national treasure. I remember when Star Trek first came on the air! How amazing!
