As a shop owner at Spartan Doscs I asked Prodigy if they would help sponsor an all ladies clinic. We let them know how much people loved their availability of great light weight discs that look beautiful. He said right away that he would love to help and would send us 50 air discs. It was great for the growth of womens disc golf in Buffalo NY. We had 24 ladies sign up and filled the event. I really hope the best and will continue supporting them. They also have official rights to college sports and NHL which i absolutely love. Our local University of Buffalo team got stamped discs for a fundraiser. Go Will and go Prodigy

Metric measurements are used in sports instead of Imperial ones because they are employed in most of the world, allowing for consistency in international play and stats.

Except as he pointed out, they don't... They don't say a hole is 100 meters, they say it's 330 feet. So he's questioning why the inconsistency?

I think jomez and DGPT provide meters as well as feet on each hole infographic. It only seems inconsistent because we live in America and we just say feet for measurements. But the meters measurements are typically always there.

I am pro having obstacles near the basket to the point that it alters putts. Should be POSSIBLE to make a putt anywhere within 10-15m but it doesn't have to be a straightforward putt all the time. Completely clear greens out to 20m seems like a great way to make the sport more boring.

If the goal is to stop having people break the rules on the release…just abolish the rule. It’s hard to call in real time anyway and it adds friction on a card that is unnecessary. So, just eliminate the rule and move on. Plant foot behind the disc…go. Who cares…they still have to make it and jump/step putts are a skill too. This issue is a waste of our energy.

Making the basket smaller is a bad idea as well. The baskets don’t ONLY catch putts. Imagine not having the Philotross or Holy Shot because the basket was smaller to make putting more difficult. Oof.

I brought up the exact same point Ezra did. So this is my solution, not exclusively but predominantly the putts that people are taking issue with are jump rather than step, because just due to the mechanics of how it is done there's a much greater chance for both feet to be off the ground at the same time. So instead, change the regulation regarding foot placement. Keep the regulation that there must be a supporting point directly behind the lie before the throw (not required to be touching, just behind the lie) and no part of the body can touch anything in front of the lie until after the disc is released. Then it wouldn't matter if one toe It's a fraction of an inch above the ground a fraction of a second before the disc is released. A possible exception or possibly addition/variation to the rule would be to permit sideways jumping providing that at least one supporting point has to be touching the ground directly behind the lie prior to any jump, and at least part of the body has to remain behind the plane of the lie until after the disc is released. This would permit some interesting sideways diving scramble shots without enabling people to attempt some crazy track and field 20 ft long jump towards the basket. Another reason I am completely against changing the C1 10M distance is because I use the Discineer Runmaker mini marker, which is an amazing tool, and you can get 10% off using code SAWYER 😁 ...but this rule if it went into effect would render it obsolete.
@stevenramseyjr2032
@stevenramseyjr2032 3 күн бұрын
Bravo! You get it. But the rules probably will change, because... emotions, not logic. A couple of minor quibbles. Step putts can presently display the same issues as those of jump putts, just closer to the ground. And governing of a sideways plane creates another gray area, so jumping into any direction from the legal lie is the simple way to go.

Hot take about jump / step putts. The purpose of establishing balance behind your lye in side the circle was to eliminate attempts at dunking the disc when close enough to do so. I say make the basket smaller in some way (i prefer making the chains closer to the center like a marksman basket) and instesd of a step or jump put having to release the disc before in the air allow it to be released after and require the step or jump put to originate from a stand still possition on the 12x12 area behind the lye. Also move jump putting back to 15 meters. No running up or running starts for a long jump type approach. No one outside a 15 meter circle is gaining a huge advantage by releasing the disc just after they leave the ground vs before leaving the ground. No one will get signifigantly closer with good control if their putt if they jump as hard as they can from their lye outside the circle.

I love the skins series and am rooting for Luke and GK but am very nervous for them in this new endeavor. So many moving parts to a tour AND their track record of live coverage (big money skins) was a massive failure. It’s so hard to launch something like this and they are gonna be under a microscope. Are they going to have more resources than DGPT and are they going to be able to execute. If the announce and roll out tell us anything, they aren’t ready and don’t have a full go to market strategy ready. Ready, shoot, aim won’t be a better product than DGPT.

Change the rules so your feet can't cross over your "lie". So if you are straddling you can't cross closer to the basket with either foot in a vertical line. Your foot can lift in the air but it can't be in front of your lie in the air when you release the disc. Also should make it so your plant foot can't leave the ground at all during any throw or putt.

This is an easy one. The new rule is good for the purpose of making putting harder. So I like the rule. But it does nothing to eliminate the issue of illegal step putts. Ezra is dead on about that. Why not just ban step/jump putts all together? It’s either a throw or a putt, no other options.

Jump putt should go. We need to play by the rules, so either make them harder to break, or allow the controversial play. But even if we want to make jump putt legal, a lot of players actually break the throw rules by not even making contract with your lie at the point of release. At that point it becomes basically impossible to even define what a throw or putt is?

Just keep circle one for statistical purposes. You already have C2 stats affected by bushes this would change nothing. Currently only one of two circles is affected by rules and the other is just for stats. Keep C1 for stats and C2 for rules and stats. Literally no issue with stats. As far as using meters, the entire world uses the metric system. It's a global sport. The rules are all based in meters. People can measure holes however the want but the rules only use the metric system. Perfectly uniform.

I would be ok w changing the put rule for Open players and not for AMs below MA1/FA1, would be ok. We want to encourage new players to play in local tournaments and not letting AM divisions below MA1/FA1 jump (which AMs do subconsciously) when putting outside of C1 would be discouraging for growing the sport at the local level. Same concept as how MA1/FA1 use the same teepads as Pros do (e.g. A pools, B pools, etc).

Brody's correct. The sport originated in the US and it is weird to use metric; not to say that signage couldn't include both and probably should on top rated courses in all countries. But, fundamentally it is just weird that rules were put in place like this. Steady Ed must have been one that preferred metric. Americans DO understand the rest of the world uses metric, we still much prefer "imperial" measurements. I don't see this changing any time soon. If any group is converting the numbers it should not be the group from where the sport originated. Baseball, basketball, American football all started in the US and uses the US measurement system. I'm actually surprised that golf uses yards and feet; golf was NOT invented in the US. What is up with THAT!?

The point isn't to fix the issue, it's to make it less consequential. Shrinking the basket is sooooo dumb. Only the top MPO players are so good that making smaller baskets makes sense and even then, not on windy days. No one wants to see players missing more from 30 feet. Additionally, FPO putting is far far worse. Shrinking the baskets would make FPO unwatchable.

My first question is this: When creating the rules for the PDGA, who is the target audience? Are the rules intended for elite-level touring pros, or are they for lower-level pros and all AMs? If the answer is the former, then fine. Make it harder, and everyone else will just deal with it. However, if it's the latter, and I suspect is the truth, then it's probably fine leaving the circle at 10m. We shouldn't be surprised that elite-level players, whose job it is to be good at disc golf, to be really good at step/jump putting. I believe the point of the rules in a game like disc golf, and I believe this applies to traditional golf, is that the rules are there to enforce a "spirit of the game". Now, obviously you can't have zero rules, because humans are humans, so we need rules to establish some kind of standard. The idea of these rules is that players should know these rules and make good faith efforts to stay within them. So obviously, we don't want to see a guy running and jumping from his lie to dunk it in the basket before he lands, but a guy jump putting who released his disc 1ms too late isn't gaining any advantage and is CLEARLY making a good faith effort to stay within the rules.

Where is the logic in the putting and lies debate? What even are the supposed problems? Are there a great many weighted voices trying to make disc golf LESS appealing to the leveling-off viewing audience and tournament players at all levels? I hear a lot of illogical arguing from emotion and authority, along with strawmen. Concerning the issue of lies and step- and jump-putts, either call and second perceived violations, or get off the pot. The only almost-solution is to make uniform the stance rules from tee to basket. That comes in 2 options: Mandate a maintained/grounded plant foot in ALL tosses, or allow a lifted plant foot in ALL tosses. Calling for non-player officials to make the calls on the current OR future rules merely shifts calls from one set of subjective eyes (the players) to another set of subjective eyes (non-player officials). Not a solution. Calling for C1 to be expanded concerning lie rules merely shifts the current perceived problem to a different spot on each hole. Not a solution. I have yet to hear/see anyone define what supposed problem current C1 putting percentages present. Why does putting need to be more difficult? Putting stats, even among top touring pros vary by percentage points amounting to standard deviations of separation. Putting percentages among the 32 MPO Finalists go from the 70s to the 90s, meaning the difference between wins, podiums, top 10s, and even missing cash. Concerning basket sizes, smaller targets would deprive the sport of most throw-ins. Again, what problem does the broad spectrum of current putting percentages present that putting needs to be made more difficult?
