Love the comments section. We don't need only commander, we already have a lot of them. Going back to 60 card, shorter game formats with 1v1 is what MTG was originally designed for and I'm so stoked for this set.

I actually appreciate the simplicity of Foundations cards and creature type decks as opposed to another batch of a 100 Legendary creatures with 10 million lines of game text.

I think there is no better product than a foundations product to start someone on magic. When you are just playing "tutorials" with new players, it's much easier to play with a standard deck. It cuts out all the noises from 100-card format and let you focus on the basics of learning magic.

As someone that has not played MTG since 2000 when I was a little kid, Foundations is capturing my attention. I had no plan in my mind to get back into MTG, but seeing my local store have have events to present Foundations is making me consider MTG again.

Non-standard player here. I primarily play MTG "Kitchen-Table" style with my wife and close friends. I am VERY hyped for Foundations and pre-ordered the Jump-start booster box. I have a Jump-start cube made up of the original 2020 and 2022 Jump-start sets.

I'm really hoping foundations powers down and reduces the variance of the draft environments they've been making recently. When games are just a contest of bombs its not much more fun that playing heads or tails.

WotC has put to much emphasis on Commander format and they end up realising that its not all player that likes to play Commander. Now they will do their best to bring back players of 60 cards decks. They will not loose people who likes Commander in the process. They'll just grow their buisness by adding more prople who prefer other formats.

I'm actually stoked about this set. It's a great jumping in point for new players which, as you said and I said in a previous video of mine, has been sorely missing. Usually you get new people interested and you basically have to shove a commander deck in their faces, give a run down of rules, and shove them into a pod of welcoming players and say "good luck." Even with the starter commanders you have to essentially do this. At least with Foundations, the Beginner Box will have 2 playmats with I think zones on them (if not you can order the Foundation playmats themselves with the zones. There's a 1 person and 2 player option.), pre-constructed decks that don't need to be shuffled and follow a pre-made game like the 2-player Yu-Gi-Oh starter deck that came out earlier this year. It also has a rules booklet too for easier referencing versus telling them to stick a phone in their face and search for the answers (If you're not the one sitting down with them and giving a beginner class that is.). All In all, I think it's going to a huge net positive for welcoming new players and actually giving them something to work with because of the staples reprints that are going to be in the Instant Collection boxes too. And for 5 years too? Awesome. Collector Boosters however, are a one run and done thing. There's not going to be reprints of these boxes at all (supposedly) so if you want any, you need to scoop them up ASAP.

Millions of people started playing magic long before commander was a thing. You do not need commander to bring new people to the game. WotC is intentionally trying to rein in the commander format and make standard the primary format again because that’s where the money is.

I came back to magic after a long hiatus and now all I really know is commander. That being said, I think foundations could be interesting for me and my playgroup so we can get more familiar with playing standard. It's almost like commander is all people know of as Magic as of late.

I too am looking forward to foundations. A set to bring more beginners into the hobby is a good thing. Sometimes its good to have something on the simpler side and I have always been a fan of bringing classic cards back into standard.

I think this will have some good reprints for Commander in it, at least the staples. I think this is a good move for Magic, a Standard only set like it was 7 years ago. No one asked for 4 Commander decks with each Standard set, we just wanted more than 4 decks a year.

I don't think it's that nobody wants Foundations. I think Foundations has less hype because it's only interesting to actual 'players' and in particular new players. The 'investors' can't make any money off of foundations so they're not particularly interested. I think other factors at play is a loss of confidence in products due to the commander bans as well as Wizards nerfing Play boosters from 1.8 rares and mythics on average in Thunder Junction to now about 1.25 rares and mythics per play booster in Bloomburrow, Duskmourn and Foundations. Lastly, given that it's a 'starter' set and it's mostly about play...the release of collector boosters is completely unnecessary and just kind of offensive. Why would anyone want to pay $200+ for some curled up version of beginner staple cards for standard? It's just completely tone deaf. They should have focused the product on the starter collection and perhaps a set of 'starter' commander decks that include many standard staples to get people to start building commander decks. Instead they are releasing the 9th collector booster set of the year and people are just fatigued...and that's not even including Myster Booster 2. Seriously if you just bought a single box of collector boosters for each set released this year you'd have spend over $2,000. Wizards is milking the cow dry and it will have negative consequences.

Back in when I was a new MTG player, Standard was THE way to learn. Core Sets were a big part of that because all the cards included helper text for mechanics. I really hope Foundations is successful and gets more new players into Standard.

Former set booster buyer here. As Wotc is selling draft booster boxes for more than a set booster box now, I switched to collector booster boxes. And I’m only buying one per set for fun and the rest just singles instead of multiple booster boxes. If that's what wotc wanted, well congrats

I understand your point on Alpha/Beta value vs Foundation rare treatment, I slightly disagree however: Even though i am baffled by this, my friend sold last week a non serialised Sol Ring from LOTR (Do not remeber if it was elven or dwarf...) but it sold at a better price than I could have sold my Graded 6/10 Beta sol Ring (Even though i woulnd sell it). Its 100% understandable: Yougner people care more about cards from set they saw at release, they sometimes care less about card that got printed when they weren't even born. The Players haven't had much time to enjoy BloomBurrow and DuskMourn. Foundations will be released in a little over a month. Wizards has released soooo many Commander Decks in the last two years so it does not matter to me if there are not any decks for Foundations. I will not buy any sealed product and will wait to see of there are any singles that I want. Thank you for the video Louie.

Sounds like WOTC is finally trying to get players off Commander. Tbh I don't think it will work since Commander caters to not having to be competitive or even buying two copies of a card. I think that ease is just too nice and players won't want to venture out to standard which is harder to play in. Standard has no rule zero.. if your a bad player or have a bad deck it will be made apparent to you quickly and a lot of people aren't into mtg enough to want to fight back after a beating. Commander you can say Aww shucks we all lost or don't play that guy with good cards since it's not a tournament.

Standard used to be my favorite format, but they keep increasing the time a set stays in rotation, and now this? 2029?! Yeah, let's rotate cards less in our MAIN ROTATING format... For people who don't like rotations, multiple formats exists for them. What is the point of Standard when sets are legal for 3-5 years? Make it make sense. I guess I'll just continue drafting to get my fix, saves me money at least.

Thank god they're ignoring commander. I miss when standard was financially available and formats had at least a triangle of playable decks. Making chase card turbo and 4hr gameplay your only market is a real turn off for most people

If WOTC wants Foundations to succeed, they need to decouple the relationship between EV and products. The culture of investors and collectors have a stigma against core set products, until they go out of production. Once WOTC figures out how to get players to invest into the game over collectors investing over the product, core sets will continue to disappoint.

Looking at collectors, everything else a hard miss. Will hold off until they dump excess on Amazon/combo with a prime sale. Think this is a poor idea on their part if they want new players in. Some random deck Vs a meta list that's been tried and tested online at MTGA is going to a fast track to feel bad for the new players. Reprints are capped as you say, however I think their might be a shift away from collecting reserve list as it is seen as generational and for boomers. Investors are over in Pokémon imho. Personally rather a gorgeous shiny card at 150 Vs played older card at 500, could just be me. Thanks for your thoughts 👍
