okay. i really liked the little middle bit, of slightly editing the deck, keeping the memery in, yet adding more propper support. But, the OG deck looks like something you make as a 60 card newbie, after discovering a combo in EDH/Brawl, and building a 60 card deck around. Great video Seth.

That first game really showed off how this deck got places - Simulacrum Synthesizer is a really strong card, the combo itself is pretty strong if you can pull it off, and powerstones are actually pretty decent ramp if you're mostly running artifacts (shame that most of the powerstone-generating cards are so mediocre). I'm just surprised that our friend didn't just stick to mono-blue...

On the red leyline: what blows my mind is that wizards won't print fetch lands in standard because "it leads to a too fast meta that we don't like" And then print cards like this that enable turn 2 wins. Like what? Is that not immediate sirens on "too fast"?

Nexus, if it sticks to trigger once, is a pretty solid card. Replaces itself with the card draw, and go mana-positive by putting in a 7 drop or better. It's just risky if it gets countered or destroyed before you get to trigger it once, making it a very "Boom or Bust" card

I think his theory was that, if a certain deck is consistently leading to people not having fun, it can give insight into the idea that a certain deck/play pattern might not be conducive to enjoyable play. Whether that notion is true or not, I can't say, but it does at least make sense logically. In reality, I'm pretty sure they don't need a happy face/frowny face metric to determine if Standard players like turn two losses, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to try.

A lot of the powerstone cards, including Hall of Tagsin, were buffed in Alchemy. This might have been someone trying to run the deck in 3 year standard after it rotated out of Alchemy.

I’m still learning about the special slots from OJT sad they are all mythics lol some real cool cards to build around in there. Seth’s comment at 31:41 about deckbuilding jank and how you can still include removal and have a fun and unique deck I feel like is stubbornly lost on SOOO many players. Too often do I browse the comments on the Arena subreddit or other forums and there’s players (both new and old) that think they’re “meta slaves” if their brew includes just basic interaction. They’re either obsessed with being “different” or make up scenarios where adding things like Go For The Throat or Sunfall will dilute the cool thing their deck does when in fact it does the opposite - those things make it so your jank actually gets to do the thing in the first place. But then again, I know some people don’t care about winning or losing and just want to play their own way, and I can’t hate on those convictions I guess lol

I'd love to see an against the odds or a meme or dream about this 3 card combo in standard. Enduring Tenacity, sheoldred the apocalypse, and Marina Vendrell's grimoire. If you have down the Tenacity and sheoldred then play the grimoire you'll start a loop of drawing cards gaining life and dealing damage till your opponent dies

Yup, plus every deck having to dedicate a good portion of cards to early game interaction hurts every other strategy. There is no recovery, there is no taking back tempo, gaining life, countering etc. It's simply: do you have 1 mana interaction available turn 1? (Though I have to admit, going with dimir and spite-bouncing their leyline turn 1 when they mulligan down to 4 or 5 has become a new favourite past time of mine)

It's actually some brilliant deck building, with all the ramp you can actually cast the threefold at 7 but portal would still be a tough ask at 9. Also cityscape takes one thing out and doesn't do enough to stabilize if you hard cast it threefold makes tokens. That pick is pretty smart all in all.

I don't understand how all these meme or dream decks keep having 9 card sideboards. I thought that the official rules stated that if you had a sideboard at all, it had to have EXACTLY 15 cards? EDIT: For anyone who sees this comment, I looked it up and apparently, that rule was changed back in the 2014 rules update. It USED to be "if you have a sideboard, it must contain exactly 15 cards. No more, no less. When you swap cards from your sideboard in between games, your main deck must have the same number of cards it started with (that is, all cards must be swapped 1-for-1)." As of the 2014 update, it changed to "a sideboard may have UP TO 15 cards, and your final deck may include any number of sideboard cards added in without swapping them for a card in the main deck." Although, it's still recommended to swap your sideboard cards 1-for-1, as simply adding them in without removing other cards reduces your decks consistency.

i think the deck is a okay´ish bo1 deck maybe go even lower with the counter and more removal 8maybe removal that gives life) and it should be golden. in bo3 the artifact only plan will more often then not kill the deck.

Decks honestly trash right after otj jim davis made a make your own luck deck trying too cast nexus of becoming best target is the threefold thunderhulk but the besuty is pack the deck with ramp cast make your own luck snd plot the nexus and set up for s thunderhulk the next turn and you have plenty of room by taking out alo thr powrrstone makers and other draft chaff make your own odds if u will
