Nay and Lah was the best exercise for me. It's buzzes when I get it right but it takes serious practice to get the sound all the time. I been practicing for a month straight about 1-2 hours a day and doing all the vowels with the sound. You can also do NG as well. Almost every SLS exercises is literally trying to teach you how to find your mix/mask voice. I wish teachers would be more straight up and say cry like a baby LOL but that's not a great way to develop the sound. Here is my mix/mask exercise. 1) Ah. 2) Aye. 3) EE. 4)OH. 5)OOH. Each vowel also has modifications. I also do lip trills for 10min prior to this. You can also wrap your mouth around your tongue which is pretty much the same thing as NG. This helps you find placement. Once you get that mixed coordination you got to keep practicing it for muscle memory. This is the magic to sounding freaking amazing while singing. This is the golden ticket to singing any song. You also increase your range to with this bright ping. I grew from a g4 to a d5 in about a month of consistent practice but it could of been from improper singing not allowing me to grow my voice. I also recommend practicing diaphragm breathing as well. This is what truly changed my singing. Breath every time you even attempt a scale! Seriously. Build muscle memory for this. This will change your singing life. You have to have a strong foundation first before attempting finding your mask/mix. The breath is your foundation. You have to control the air flow so you don't blow out the chord.

Useful SLS info thanks, but what really changes your singing life is when your brain doesn't think 'trying to sing' anymore it just thinks well, whatever it thinks when you simply 'talk', then you experience natural singing without tension and the breathing just takes care of itself.

Excellent info. about the tongue wrapped around the mouth, you're right as it has made such a major difference for forward placement, thanks for sharing!

hi i know this is old but what do you mean by wrapping your mouth around your tongue? If I cant buzz/ lip trill so much I can hum it is that correct?

This is the only video I've found on youtube where it is REALLY EXPLAINED. The rest of the videos tells you only to practise with "ng" sound but they don't tell you why you have to practise this particular sound: why do they take it for granted? Love you, Freya ❤

Wow, keeping the U throat shape while doing the 'cow' mooing is EXCELLENT. This send sounds to the mask.

Speaking of "mask", do you have any special advice on singing with a surgical mask on😷." I sing solo (for small open-air family & business get-togethers) or in a choir (in church) in these pandemic times. Or just sing the usual way? It would be terrific help. Thanks.

Maybe the mask can add resonance, and filter certain frequencies.

Singing with a mask is unhealthy and dehumanizing. Sing freely like a human being.

Why on earth would you sing wearing a mask? You'd be better off putting a paper bag over your head.

rotate your head in every possible angle while keeping the neck and face muscles relaxed and feel on which angle the sound gets unblocked. Once you found the angle, you practice on that. I

Is there any difference between mixed voice and masking?
@sacreligiousoperafangirl10 ай бұрын
Mixed voice is like you're mixing your registers so that your voice can have that mask effect and the placement gets better I'd say the mask is more like the placement that makes your voice resonate better and by improving your placement and also by mixing the registers especially in classical singing you get like a more blended placement that also resonates better, hope that makes sense!!
@tamirlyn10 ай бұрын
Don't do this. You risk losing the chest core of the voice. With it, the clarity of pronunciation tends to go also.
