Too funny - “I remember when elf was a class!” is basically my catchphrase among our online gaming group. This sounds awesome, I’ve been looking for solo, analog alternatives to roguelikes such as Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. Looking forward to more videos when you’re up for it. Keep up the good work!

Just found your channel. I only play solo boardgames-RPG and 4AD is my favorite. I always thought I was alone in my hobby :) . I look forward to your updates and hearing your thoughts about various games but really hope you do a 4AD play. Paul

I agree with comments about the scattered rules. I use post-its in the book so I remember where to turn for the frequent but hard to remember rules and tables. I also saw someone on line make character sheets using index cards which reduces footprint significantly and allows you to store the index cards to run and rerun adventures with a bunch of common characters just paired for different parties (e.g., 2 magic users+1 barbarian+1 cleric; 3 dwarves+1 magic user; ...). thanks for the review.

I picked this one up a couple years ago, read it and was a bit underwhelmed. Though I admit I was looking for more of a solo RPG at the time. I don’t think I ever really tried to play it. I may have to pull it out and give it a try without the RPG expectation. Looking forward to your list of recommended supplements.

5:40 I have 4ad, back in the days it was expensive, I bought the pdf then had lulu print and send it to me. Same A5 format. However, I tried to get into it but just was appalled by the vermin that you had to deal with, dropping no loot and generating 0 xp. It would be ok as a video game but in tabletop I'd like to have each action count. I have no problems with TPK though. 9:00 there are multiple tutorials on yt on how to setup, but they don't really help. 13:20 if the base is lackluster, the extensions won't help, as ppl will quit at the base level already.

That is a bit annoying, but having to face enemies with zero xp passes rather quickly in most cases. At third level you can start using the Fiendish Foes tables, which allows you to gain the same xp for vermin as normal minions. I think there might also be some vermin you can harvest for alchemical parts to make potions- I'm not totally sure because I haven't gotten into much alchemy yet, but I do know that there are a TON of ingredients you can get from different enemies. In any case, you might still enjoy the scripted adventures where there is a storyline to follow and random encounters are less prevalent. "Buried Secrets" is a fantastic stand-alone adventure where you only play one character- I loved the story and found the mechanic of time passing to be both suspenseful and exciting. Plus, when you are done you will have a level 3 or 4 cleric that you can introduce into your normal party.

the game really shines when you add more books and fan made scenarios. the cards are great, get them all. the bestiary deck is awesome and allows you to pick the enemies that inhabit the dungeon. fun stuff.

Dwarf, Elf and Halfling are likely "species". I love the game too, quick and relatively detailed. I would say 4 against the abyss is paramount if you want to play after level 5.

Just subbed to your channel. I had been planning to give this a go over the holidays with one of the adventure modules. Do you get those books done at a print shop or do you do themselves? If so, you should do a crafting video on how they’re made.

Solo gaming is still a pretty niche hobby, and I know that the stuff I make videos about might be even more niche. I'm okay with it though- if I set out to be a popular KZbin star I would not have covered any of this stuff in the first place. I'm just happy that there are even a few people out there that like the things I make.
@HighbridgeD
@HighbridgeD 3 жыл бұрын
@@soloadventureswithlivi1108 Here's the thing though. By creating such an extensive Playlist of videos for yourself, at some point that one video that unexpectedly sparks the interest of your viewers who then are curious enough to go back over your earlier content, will begin to pay dividends. Most of the successful KZbin channels admit to the fact it takes years before they get any real traction, but that when it does the spike can be quite dramatic. I know you're not in this for the money, but I hope to see a recognition of your efforts on behalf on your subscribers, sooner rather than later!
