I may have to check this out... I tried 4AD and there was some stuff that I really liked but also a few things that didn't thrill me. I wanted something that covered more than just dungeon crawls, so this looks great, but I also felt that everything was so spread out across multiple books, that it seemed like a lot of work to get the "complete" game. I've heard that there will be a "new edition" of sorts that combines a bunch of stuff into one book but I don't know if that's accurate.
@GeekGamers0111 ай бұрын
I totally agree with you about the content being spread out, which I've mentioned in many of my other 4AD books. I'm not really sure why there has been no 2e for the basic rules... it just doesn't seem to be a priority for the designer.
@Darkwintre11 ай бұрын
Ok im interested!
@perplexingruins11 ай бұрын
Thanks for covering these! have been long interested to see what "2e" was going to be. Looks good, but like all 4AD products, its a massive two column wall of text...i am likely in the minority, but not sure how often I'd actually be excited to pull this out to read and use at table....regardless, neat to see their next steps and your wonderful coverage, as always!
@GeekGamers0111 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the vid. I do agree that the layout could be improved but, as with putting out a much-needed revised 2e of the basic rules, that doesn't seem to be a priority for the creator.

@@GeekGamers01 I did ask Andrea Sfiligoi about a second edition on Facebook a while ago and he mentioned it's something that he's working on. He didn't say when to expect it, but I know it's at least something in the pipeline.

@nippleless As it has been seemingly for years, since the book came out. I wouldn’t hold my breath on that.

thanks for the vid, these books look very interesting, i'll be adding them to my collection. though the system really needs a condenced rule/character class book, info is spread over too many books.

I looked, I looked some more and then looked again. If you enjoy 4AD, then the two volume Treacheries of the Troublesome Towns is a must purchase. 400 pages of OMG awesomeness. These are not the normal brief tomes.

@rpgchronicler11 ай бұрын
The fact that at least one of the two supplements for 4AD is usable for ttrpgs as well makes them something worth checking out. Im surprised that they even have stuff related to naughty shenanigans which from what im seeing in the comments could be quite the turnoff for some, though for me I dont mind it and I don't consider it a detraction for the supplement.
@GeekGamers0111 ай бұрын
I agree with you that aspect of it is puzzling… especially that it has persisted all these years and no doubt cost sales…. I’m sure nobody would stop buying the games if this was removed but people certainly don’t buy them because it’s in there…
@mustno311 ай бұрын
Always high quality, high level, content GG. Thank you! Having said that, I truly hesitate to try 4AD specifically because of the unnecessary degeneracy included by default in these books instead of being provided separately.
@GeekGamers0111 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the vid. It's too bad that there aren't an "E" version of the books....
@wizardbrawl11 ай бұрын
The weird sex stuff seems to be limited to the books by Erick Bouchard. The core 4AD book doesn't have anything weird in it if you just want to try it out, which I recommend!
@mustno311 ай бұрын
@@wizardbrawl Yup, thanks for pointing that out. The core book iirc is mainly dungeon delving. Do you happen to know of any "normal" book with overworld elements?
@GeekGamers0111 ай бұрын
More Mountainous Mayhem has outdoor material. I can’t assess for you whether that would fit your definition of “normal” material. I believe some of the sites that print these books like Lulu.com mark some of them as “explicit” but that’s based on what the publisher tells them. You could also check Ganesha Games site to see about that to determine if the content would bother you or not.
@julietmarais597211 ай бұрын
Thanks for this presentation....I would like to know if I also need the first 4AD game to manage the "core rules" like combats for example...don't see anything in the introduction about this...

This great. I hope they will have an overland supplement next. It’s almost possible to start in a town and then travel out to a dungeon and return. If you have a favorite overland rules pack I would like to know.
@GeekGamers0110 ай бұрын
You could Alexey Aparin’s overland travel rules. They are not specifically for 4AD but can work. I got them from itch.io a while ago. Don’t know if they are still there.
@clint805010 ай бұрын
Thanks for replying. I couldn't find anything on itch. I found a guide on Alexey's site for pocket lands, but it references about ten different supplement tables. I tried Overland Adventures by Lowell Foster, which seems to work pretty well. I would love to find something that I could use cards or hex tiles with. If you know of video, guide, or tutorial that includes overland travel please post link. @@GeekGamers01

There are home made overland travel rules in the files section of BGG. For 4AD overaland material (but not necessarily travel rules), see More Mountainous Mayhem or Court of the Pixie King or Crucible of Classic Critters.

Many thanks for this I've played 4AD and while I appreciate the positive comments this seems like bloat and not for me. Also the 'adult' content they've put in the guide is cringeworthy. It's the kind of teenage wishful thinking that gives RPG'ers a bad rep.
@GeekGamers0111 ай бұрын
Agree about the content. I really don’t get it and it is about embarrassing tbh. I just do my best to ignore it when I play as I like the game, but I do question why it is there.
