I am a fan of the Four against series and really enjoyed "Four against Mars and Fear" so picked this up on Wargame Vault a few weeks ago , really a no brainer. No spoilers , but congrats Marco you have captured the key elements of the genre in a very playable solitaire game. now, how about a couple of expansions?

if it helps to draw them in, you can play it as RPG-lite, in which your hold the book and tell the story generated by the tables, adding whatever detail will bring more atmosphere.

actually, I was inspired by 4 against Darkness and Lovecraft's work only. I was not thinking of any Lovecraft-based game. Maybe it's why I am told my game feels different from the others.

@@marcowargamer My first game experience with cthulhu would actually be Andrea's Caverns of Chaos 4ad themed dungeon (my favorite 4ad expansion). I've since bought some expansion of Mansions of Madness and the Pelgrane press rpg Trail of Cuthulu (I liked the Hollywood horror supplement) - and of course your book-- wasn't sure what other cthulhu themed games would be worth getting and playing so I was just curious on where your inspirations came from. I think I read somewhere that you are working on additional cthuluhu 4ad books correct? Would that be more of an add on supplement like with classes and monsters and such, or something else?

@joshua Mathews It actually feels different from the others, but the basic concept of investigators, sanity, clues, etc. surely has its source in a certain RPG that inspired about 90% of all related games out there - which, of course, doesn’t diminish anything about it, at all.

Which edition would you recommend, Marco? Hardback, paperback, or PDF?

they all have pluses and minuses; hardback is more expensive but looks much better; PDF you can play like a legacy, marking things on the text, writing, taking notes, etc, without guilt. If you play on a screen it is also the most portable. Paperback still looks professional, and is more portable than hardback.

Thanks for your interest. Min 1, max is technically 4, but any number can play as long as they cooperate to make decisions for the Investigators and the Helpers.

that always applied to video reviews, and this video is clearly labeled as NOT a review. I also filmed plenty of overviews from conventions which were not opinionated - but again, not reviews. And if you don't buy the game, I don't get paid. You don't have that choice when a reviewer gets paid by a publisher just to film a vid.

Just this morning a publisher contacted me asking for my rates, I said I don't want to get paid, and she replied in surprise saying it's hard to find a reviewer who doesn't take money from publishers. So I apologize if I sounded a bit nippy about this sensitive topic.
