Nice video and always good to show ‘issues’ in the tank and how to tackle them. From my own experience, I would use far less nutrient rich substrates in those biotope style tanks. Sand or fine gravel with some root tabs where needed is usually enough and keeps the algae away. I do think your new American flag fish need algae so keep that in mind. Nice fish.

An Amazon tank is it? Silver dollars are nice, but they will out grow the tank eventually. I have some Emperor Keri (Purple)tetras. They kind of spread out all over the aquarium rather than shoaling or schooling. Maybe Pigmy hatchets? They do school, and because they have such a different shape, they are a real eye catcher. A pair or trio of rams would add a lot of colour to the tank, and would be something different from the ever so common neon or cardinal tetras. I seem to remember that you already have some pigmy corys, but maybe a more regular sized cory (or whatever they're calling them now) for the bottom? Another one that could be really interesting if you were able to get them are one of the wild species of swordtail, such as the Rio Atoyac, Aztec, or Mountain swordtails. The mountain swords are smaller than all the other subspecies of sword, but have ridiculously long swords. Both the Aztec and the Mountain swords have a caudal fin which is reminiscent of an Aztec headdress in profile. They are all speckled green in colour and have swords which are red outlined in black on the males. Females, of course, do not have swords. Us ladies are demure and peaceful, even as fish. Just as I wrote that, a dozen or so exceptions came to mind, so maybe I should have prefaced it with "Usually". Lots of situations where it's "You'd better play nice or I'll cut off your balls!" That would be piranha, and they're a bit too big anyhow.

You do have 2 male flag fish in the tank, i breed those so i can have an infinite fleet of algae eaters. When they are young the males dont have the black eye spot on their dorsal fin that females do. If they are very very young (basically just out of the fry stage) they may have a faded eyespot that eventually will fade away.

@FishShopMatt2 ай бұрын
It's definitely on the borderline of what I would suggest. If planted well and maintained well you shouldn't have too many issues. But remember with that small a tank everything will be far more volatile and can go wrong quicker. But as long as you're careful and maintain the tank well you should be able to do it.

I also got some of these rice fish last Friday! Five of them are living with my Blue Dreams now. They're a bit expensive at Diebo. Had thought of buying them in Soest at Shrimpmania, but it's a bit further away and that route has loads of speed cameras. Been there once and managed to navigate without exceeding the speed limits. But with a lot of changes in speed limit, that is kind of nerve wracking. Besides, Diebo is close to the office as well so I can pop after work. I'm hoping to breed them so I'll have more of them.
@FishShopMatt2 ай бұрын
I love the fact you're choosing which fish shop to go to, because one has less speed cameras on the route hahaha. It's great when you breed a fish that's a little bit expensive. Makes you feel like you've got something back.

@@FishShopMatt I don´t mind speed cameras, but what is kind of unsettling is the speed limit switches from 80 kph to 50 kph and vice versa a lot because you´re passing through very small villages along the way. Since I´ve started driving in 2012 I´ve never been fined and I´d like to keep that clean record. Because when I go to Diebo, there are speed cameras on the parallel road of the A12 but the speed limit doesn´t change all the time. My did get photographed there a while ago....
