I went there in 1999 on my way to Raton, NM. Got a photo of the center disk. Was worth it to me because I like maps and geography.

👍 So, are you truly Cherokee?

Yes, I am. Technically, I an even an "Elder of the Cherokee Nation" as per a ceremony in October.

@@TravelsWithPhil Good, congratulations on the elder ceremony. I have documented Cherokee relatives and wanted to join the Eastern Band but my relatives weren't on the Baker's List so no luck for me, still proud of the fact though.

Tourist trap.. But, be sure and buy all of those trinkets made in va-china.... But, still cool to stand in the middle of all... Personally, I would find it hilarious if they actually re-survey with technology today, and it got moved! :p. Won't happen.. Just a bit funny to think about.. Thanks for sharing.. I was there well after..

The accurate spot of where the intended spot is believed to be about 1800 feet away. That's not bad considering the equipment they used back then, and it was all based on the Washington Monument in the District of Columbia.

visited over 40 years ago when it was a dusty parking lot with people selling stuff all around it. Don't ever need to visit again.
