Even in my early thirties, I am able to see just how fast time goes by, and how quickly we can be left behind. The world is progressing at such a rate that it is nearly impossible to keep up. Progress and technology is important, I do believe that, but the abilities our predecessors had is quickly becoming a lost art. Hunting, trapping, farming and living off the land, are all skills that should be highly valued, but are often found at the bottom of the priority list. Growing up in a remote small town, I was fortunate to learn the value of some of these skills, but unfortunately I don't posses many of them myself, though I do hope to learn and I always appreciate the opportunity to sit and talk with someone like Stuart.
I am happy I had the time to fit in a couple more adventures around my hometown, but I am so excited to finally be northbound and traveling again. I think it is so important to step out of your comfort zone as often as possible, because the less you do it the harder it becomes. I notice that the beginning of each travel season, I am quite apprehensive to get too far from the shop. It is not until I finally take the leap and put home in the rearview that I finally feel the freedom of the travel life, and quickly the confidence sets in again. These full season adventures take me far from civilization, and it is hard not to over plan, but rarely is there a problem that can't be solved with a bit of thinking and a basic set of tools.
The first leg north is a big one, but necessary because we have a lot of miles to cover this season, and traveling and filming takes a lot of time. The goal was Prince Rupert, but in typical Destination Adventure fashion, we got side tracked by an adventure opportunity. Having Emi join this season bring a whole new level of excitement for me, because I get to share my favourite places with her, and places that few people ever get to see. The Exchamsiks river is a beautiful view from the road, but getting to go up river and see the waterfalls and untouched landscape is an experience that can't be explained with words. I am so thankful to have this opportunity in my life to travel, and it has been an incredible adventure so far, but the highlight of course has been the ability to share it. Sharing it with all of you, and now with Emi, my journey seems to serve a real purpose. Thank you all for making that possible for me. This may just seem like a silly KZbin channel to many, but for me it is the culmination of my life's work, and I can't wait to see where it will continue to take us all.

I knew the man who owned and lived in the now abandoned property featured here. We lived a little further east from there. He was eccentric, but also very kind. He was a true mountain man. I used to see him around Williams Lake now and again, and he always had a big smile and some kind words for me.😅. In my mid teens he gave me a puppy from a litter his dog had. It's a little tough seeing his property now, absent of the geese and such he kept. It was a very lively place every time the school bus stopped there or when we'd drive by.

Hole in the wall! I spent many days fishing with my father in the now-closed campground on the other side of the river. At 13 years old, a friend and I, were dropped out there by our mothers. He had moved to Terrace that year and I was in Rupert. We had a complete weekend of freedom and camped on the Skeena side of the highway. Who would let their kids do that today? Yes, we got up to shenanigans. We were 13 years old after all. That story has to be shared in the company of others as it requires some acting. LOL. The memories are still so vivid in my mind. Thanks for bringing us along, as always, and welcome to my home. Looking forward to more videos as you make your way. Cheers!

Love your opening interview those are my favorite. And I'm so thankful that they're able to buy that property yes!!!! Unfortunately that's not the case with a lot of people especially in the US in West Virginia take a gander at some of that what they're doing there's some good interviews and stuff on KZbin devastating. Don't get me wrong but...... KZbin has done this to our communities...bring on the tourism it's the only way.... we can make it nowadays tourism. Ugh... I grew up in a small town in northern Minnesota have a population never over 400 since the 70s now it's probably down to 140. Anyway nobody heard of this pee-on of a small town ever until freaking KZbin came along. Don't get me wrong I love your videos because I think Canada is one of the most beautifulest places I've ever seen in my life and I live right on the border. But I totally get that guy I'm surprised you even got to do the interview

Great opening interview, Dustin. What a fantastic character. The still water gods were shining down on you this episode. Man, you got some beautiful flat water shots in there. I was thinking, as you pass through these communities, you could work on a local improvement project. For Morristown, now Witset, you could work on a salmon fitness program, that would help them with the rapids. Or maybe do it down river, so the fish are prepared. There would probably be a whole bunch of government grant money available to start a school for the fish…

So enjoying revisiting many places we haven't been in years. Kathy and I used to canoe and camp up the Exchamsiks a lot when we were first married. I cut a portage on the other side of the river to get us past the big creek that comes in at the corner before the rapids. Then we would cross back and carry the canoe around the rapids. It's really spectacular above the rapids and full of wildlife, including moose, mountain caribou and grizzlies.

I really enjoy your interviews with locals episodes as they give us insight into places and ways or life that are not easily explorable (if at all) by us, your adoring fans. OK, that last bit was a little creepy....Hopefully Emi is enjoying the scenery and getting more confident in front of the camera as it'd be fun to see you both exploring together.
