Great info! I like your photography style. It's awesome to find those gems from the golden age of digital cameras, which I consider roughly 2005-2018. The number of cameras released in those years is insane! So many models to research. I'm on that hunt now. 😀 The one thing I wish they had developed back then is USB charging. The whole fun of these cameras is that you can stuff them in a pocket/bag and carry them wherever you go. When you need to worry about accessories like proprietary chargers or extra batteries you lose some of that freedom.

The SX220-230 is a very pocketable and versatile camera. I had one and liked it, but they are so prone to dust getting into the lens and sensor area and it's almost impossible to get rid of it.If you're thinking about getting one check carefully before you do.

Old cameras interest me way more than new ones. Its not like I'm going to be shooting billboards, and with photography my goal is to just whip out my camera when I want to capture a memory or when I just feel like taking pictures, that are reasonably good quality. Also unlike some of these youtubers I very simply don't have 1000€ to just spend lol

2 of the best ccd pocket cams before 2011 were the F30/31fd and the Canon S95 all use a 1/1.7" (7.5x5.5mm)ccd and an honorable mention is the F50fd (super ccd 1/1.6 (8x6mm)for size, speed, and lower iso performance up to 400. The color nod goes to the fuji's. If you go a little larger in size, the fuji XF1 & XQ1 are very close to the top for a 2/3" (8.8x6.6mm) and under. I don't think there are others this small that give as good results. I base this on owning around 75 different pocket models over 2 decades starting with the fuji F10 in 2005.

I would also add the Panasonic Lumix GF series. I have a GF1 w/ 14mm pancake lens and it has been awesome. It was cheap, interchangeable lens, pocketable with normal clothes, and the pictures it takes are full of character and it is a joy to use.

I regreet to have given my old Ricoh GRX as it had unique features in a very compact size... Interchangeable captor & lens system! Nowadays I use only small cameras such as mft system or 1" Pana TZ100... and weatherproof P&S like the Olympus Though serie: I own the TG860 which is perfect for beach, dive, snow and rain! With a 24-120mm eq and a flipping screen in a quite pocketable size for less than 100€ it's a gem of a camera. And some filters are really cool: mirror, puzzle, B&W...

how about samsung ex2f? is it any good?
@lensandpaws Жыл бұрын
I haven't tried any Samsung cameras yet. As far as I know, the Samsung EX2F was marketed as a high-end compact, replacing the EX1. That probably says something about it. Personally, the more control I have to customize my JPEG output from a camera, the better. But your preference might be different, and that's cool too!

The compacts may beat the overpriced Ricoh GRRRX in value, but they can beat the latest cameras in mobile phones? The phone cameras cost nothing since we already have the phones. They can take excellent pictures…and videos. And certainly pocketable! ;-)
@lensandpaws Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I'm a big fan of my old iPhone 7 camera. It's kind of insane that it can record 4K video, right? But there are times when you want more control and customization in your shots, something not all mobile phone cameras can handle, especially if you're going for that film look. And hey, some folks just want the vibe of holding a real camera instead of a mobile phone. Either way, it's cool! :)
