Great tips Gregor. I could really use a hotkey or shortcut command for the function of 'sending to the back'/'"bring to the front". This would really help when I have a client who copies and pastes their own background vocals multiple times in a song, and then they ALL need cleaning up after I receive the stems. When I clean up the first set and copy 'my' mix to replace theirs; I like to be able to visually align the two versions and toggle back and forth to double check the positioning. An A/B type toggling hotkey would be cool for this.

Great video, also touching on a topic I have a bit of an issue with: Mixdown Selection! If you use Reverbs (or anything that produces a tail beyound the event length) it just gets cut off. Is there a workaround except having a muted dummy MIDI- or muted audio-event to extend the length of the mixdown to include tails? I know you can actually enter a decay-value in ms for this when rendering event FX, transforming audio tracks from real time to rendered or instrument tracks to rendered audio, but for some reason not when mixing down the selection. Taking into account a range selection or loop range during the mixdown would also be really helpful!

Hi Gregor, I have a question about the "mixdown selection" function: I didn't know this function and it's very useful for me because many times I find myself with a lot of tracks with a lot going on and my laptop literally can't handle that. Now, I was producing one of my own songs and there's a tempo change from 120 to 130 bpm in the middle of the song. What happens when I mixdown selection (for example in a bass audio track with ampire) is that studio one doesn't care about the tempo change. I checked if there was some kind of timestretch but there wasn't. What can I do? Maybe is a stupid question but I really need it to work! Thank you for your help and all your lessons, you make work easier for all of us!
@presonus4 жыл бұрын
Hi Massimiliano, thanks for your kind words! Have you double checked that your audio tracks are set to "Timestretch"? They will only react to the tempo track if they have been set to Timestretch in the Track Inspector. Also, make sure that you have the preference "Record Tempo Automation to Audio Files" enabled. You will find this option under Preferences -> Advanced -> Audio. Have you checked out "Transform Track" in Studio One yet? This might be preferable in your situation, since you only want to mixdown to improve performance from what I understood...if you do that with "Transform Track", then you still have the ability to go back to what you had at any point to make adjustments. "Mixdown Selection" is really more intended for situations in which you want to commit. -GBY
@ersmith63084 жыл бұрын
@@presonus I've just triple checked and tempo was on timestretch in the track inspector... Also, "Record Tempo Automation to Audio Files" was enabled... "Timestretch" is set on "drums", I've tried also "sound" but it doesn't fix the problem :/ Yes, I've been using the "transform track" function for a while but I really do prefer mixdown selections and then disable and hide the "busy" tracks because in that way I don't overload the cpu and I can still copy and paste settings if needed (for the show page for example or to use them in another song) without transforming the tracks every time!
@ersmith63084 жыл бұрын

Hi, I'm using 4.6 but automating is still stress since years. Case: track channel on X-Large nearly covers my whole monitor, but the movement capabilities of automation lines are very tiny. Have to be very careful with my mouse not to move too fast or too far. I really hate to work like that. Why is the lowest and highest point anywhere in the middle of my X-Larged window instead of the bottom and the top of the channel borders? I don't get it. Will there ever be a solution for this? Or is there any I'm not aware of yet? If not, I can't understand how you guys can work like that.

My most useful keyboard shortcut is to replace Delete with X. I learned this from Blender. It is uncanny how much easier it makes everything when you can keep your left hand from reaching the other side of the keyboard. Just try it, you won't go back. I moved the crossfade to V, it's easy to remember. The next most useful is Select All to A, not control-A or command-A but just A. I would love to be able to bind Enter to the left side of the keyboard too, at this time I have it at an extra button in my mouse. The idea is to have the most used commands nearest to my fingers.
