You make attacking look so easy! Can you please consider doing an instructional video devoted to preparing and executing attacks? Some topics like when you know it’s a good time to attack vs defend, how to set up an attack to succeed, when to sacrifice etc.
@Kirisame3122 жыл бұрын
I've had dubious attacks succeed at the 1500 ish level simply because the attack itself makes the opponent uncomfortable. I'd say the best first step to learning to attack is to simply try attacks out and be unafraid to lose. Losing attacking positions will teach you how to navigate attacking positions.
@aaronstephen30582 жыл бұрын
@@Kirisame312 I’m 2000, and I agree with what you’re saying. Just go for it! If you lose, all you lose is some elo, anyway. If you think an attack is promising, prepare slowly and attack fast!

I find it so hard in the middlegame to look for attacks, especially pawn advances. I could really benefit from a video like that as well
@NAITANNN2 жыл бұрын
@@Kirisame312 thank you for the tip, I will definitely be doing that. I like attacking so I do it probably more than I should, and I would say it’s like 50/50 whether or not they succeed (1100~ elo). Also sometimes they do succeed even when I think they shouldn’t have just because the opponent feels too pressured. But going for an attack when I shouldn’t and then having it lose the game does feel crappy and it would be nice to learn the principles of attacking and such.

Been waiting for this speedrun video for what feels like ages now! Like others have mentioned your tips on attacking are really great. If you made a longer video or a mini-series devoted to attacking ideas I really think it would be a hit. Personally (and I think many of your viewers would be in the same boat), my two main problems are punishing passive players and punishing overly aggressive players. I know the opponent has weaknesses somewhere but I'm never able to take advantage of it. Would love to see an instructive video on this.

Qg2 was a very instructive move and definitely not what I would have played. I would have gone for the more natural Be2, which would have disconnected the queen from the kingside, making the attack less potent. Even the fact that I can talk about the moves in this way is largely your doing. Thank you for the videos and keep up the great work, Daniel!
@thatguy52332 жыл бұрын
what i'm starting to realise is that the best way to improve at chess is just playing AND don't care if you win or not (although you should aim to win, just don't make it your priority) but focus on improving from every game, try things out. that applies especially if it comes to attacking. you just have to try it yourself. i'm not saying you shouldn't calculate moves, it's just that if you see an attack looks promising - go for it, the worst that can happen is you will lose some points BUT you will at least learn something new (unless it's a tournament or something where you can finally really see how much progress you made:)

I said it last time we saw the four knights scotch and I'll say it again this time. Could we see a Belgrade or Krause gambit from the four knights possibly? They're some of my favorite variations to play from the position and are dangerous for black since most of the pitfalls come from seemingly natural moves.
@damiandab3352 жыл бұрын
He's not playing gambits in this speedrun though.
@Thekilla26592 жыл бұрын
@@damiandab335 He said he's not playing anything that's objectively dubious or that isn't solid. The belgrade and krause are both solid options from a practical and theoretical standpoint and they aren't played often enough in a majority of games for anyone to be prepared to deal with them OTB. So as I've played them and taught others them they've won many games just due to a small amount of prep and common themes of play. But I didn't specifically say I wanted to see it in the speedrun either, just asking in general if we could see it sometime in the speedrun, opening lab, or busting the gambits series even, just want to see it get some love and attention since I never see anyone use it or talk about it because it comes from the four knights and not many people in higher ratings typically play it.

@RoseWraps_Texas2 жыл бұрын
Theory/theoretical position is just what’s considered the ‘best move/position’ according to an engine.
@SoundAndFuryy2 жыл бұрын
It means that the position has been played before at high-level games and the best moves, their order, etc. are well-established. Basically, a position that you can learn by reading/learning the theory rather than playing it out on your own.
@TheMrInfantaria2 жыл бұрын
@@RoseWraps_Texas so so wrong
@dre4mz7492 жыл бұрын
Dont listen to the other comment about engine moves, theory is in chess all openings, all openings are planned and studied up to a certain point, if you are '' playing by theory '' the first 10 moves of the game that means that you are playing moves that you or others have ahead of time already prepared, and often is considered, the best move. So theory equals openings, altough there is also theory for winning Endgames, but this is a rare reference to make.
