Good one. I have used a few but I think it's important to get used to using them more. Sounds great! Thanks TS. 🌟

And X the low E and A strings, as we call them in E standard, when in D standard and you have the Greek Bouzouki tuning of CFAD. 😊

Exactly. Played a lot of bouzouki this week.

I love D standard! Sometimes l'll use 13s for D but mainly use 11s.

For real simple tuning adjustment I like to take the e string down to a "d" for some songs such as Uriah Heep The wizard. Super deep power for songs in the d structure

Great video, Tom! With some guitars, do you have to have the guitar set up again if you alter the tuning radically? I've heard some say that if you have thicker gauge strings, a setup might be necessary. Has this been your experience?
@TomStrahle3 жыл бұрын
Indeed. But in the studio I temper tune. Meaning I tune the guitar for wherever I am playing on the neck. Tune for open position then for higher at the twelfth fret, etc. I can’t go back and forth in one pass but that’s not usually an issue.

CCR´s Proud Mary is in stanard D tuning too.

Dang I wish I'd known that before I did the video.

@@TomStrahle I knew there was something wrong playing the D shape on standart E. We played it with a band last summer and I found a video here on You Tube. It´s a great trick, John Fogerty plays in standart D and his brother in standart E. So you have the ringing sound of the D shape and the power sound of the E shape and John could play a lot of typical blues licks unreachable within the D shape. Really cool stuff... ;)

Tom, If I place my capo in the guitar and tune to standard open E tuning is that a consistent way of achieving these open tuning modes ?
@TomStrahle3 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm, not sure I understand the question. Ask it again like your asking a four year old. Haha.
@stephenbouchelle77062 жыл бұрын
I think you are asking if you can use a capo to play ‘standard’ chord shapes in different keys - in other words, just use a capo. If that’s the question, anything that isn’t in E will be higher in pitch. This lesson lets you drop the pitch for a very different feeling.

Open tunings..capos..string gauges ..no one can say guitars aren’t versatile. Piano can’t do that stuff

When I hear something in B standard…… Arrrrrre youuuuuuu REEEEAAADY???? I know it’s actually in A but on my 7 banger it sounds better in B 😅
