Looking at credits of _"Peacemaker"_ they had 22 accountants but produced only 8 episodes. It seems no one wants to work all year but everyone wants a job. It's so long between episodes of current shows that I forget the storyline! lol
@STho2059 ай бұрын
TOS had avg of 27 a year. Many other dramas of 1967 had 30 so rather consistent with Westerns and detective/law/spy shows. TNG had avg of 26 which was fairly standard. Today there are three live action ST series a year running 10 each. So 30. More of you count cartoons and shorts Just if you only like one....then it is UK level of short season. If you like two you'll get 20 weeks. It is unlikely you'll like 3 or 4 of the sets. They pitch to drastically different audiences.
@otomicans65809 ай бұрын
The shows did a lot with very little. There are a ton of asides about how Data operates, for example, that don't have any special effects. The special effects are just the dialogue that makes the world seem more lived-in. I really liked the episode where Obrien was shocked at how risky it was that Ro re-routed power to a console on the bridge. All they did was turn a light on, but for the viewer it adds a lot of unpredictability to the plot: Ro is smart but she's a loose canon and who knows if her judgement is correct or not. So, sure, they had to make a-plot and b-plot last long enough with a bare minimum budget. But what that means is the plots, the acting, the cliffhangers and the world building needed to be interesting enough to carry the viewer through each episode.
@STho2059 ай бұрын
@@otomicans6580 in TOS most of the modern CGI effects were just dialog. Enterprise and the task force Sulu brought back to Organia was attacked by an entire Klingon FLEET....Except there was no Klingon ship model until season 3. At best they were blips on Checkov's station panel...which itself was just art on cardstock. Reason Romulans in S3 used Klingon design is Paramount lost the contract with the freelance prop master that built the original S1 model. They didn't pay his bill...so they used stock shots in S2 then decided to use the new AMT/ Jeffries model in S3.

How can ANY Sci-Fi fan NOT be intrigued by this, instead of an old rehash of TNG people (I liked Picard, btw & TNG was epic, but enough is enough already). @@anjetto1 Spinoffs with a new ship, new crew of characters and a new story that exists within the same framework would be fine. There are plenty of interesting crews from the books they could tap for new movies; The Excalibur under Captain Calhoun would make for an awesome movie series, the USS Aventine with its experimental slipstream drive would be fun, hell, we could always step away from Starfleet for a minute and get the IKS Gorkon made into a movie, or follow a crew of civilians on a trade ship as there are several of those to choose from in the books. Heck, even if we have to stay on a Starfleet ship and the books are, for whatever reason, off limits, there are still plenty of story possibilities within the Star Trek lore that don't have to be centered on TOS or TNG. The battle of Narendra III, where the Enterprise-C was lost defending a Klingon colony would be a compelling story for a movie, as would sending a diplomatic envoy to re-establish contact with the Dominion or investigating the origins of the brain bugs from TNG's Conspiracy. A time travel thriller with the Department of Temporal Investigations would be fun, especially if they tie it to the forgotten Temporal Cold War from Star Trek Enterprise. Or a spy thriller involving Section 31... Or both, a time travel spy thriller with DTI and Sec31 working against each other with no clearly defined "protagonist" or "antagonist" as each side would have equally valid and morally defensible reasons for their actions. My point is, the Star Trek universe is a vast and wide ocean of possibilities, so the last thing we need is to stay in the kiddie pool of reboots, remakes, prequels and Enterprise-centered sequels.

As for Picard, I thought season 3 of the series was the *perfect* ending for that character. I don't want them to mess with that, and I certainly don't want to see him die. It's been considered, dropped, considered, and dropped so many times, I am going to have to request they do a wellness check to make sure that baby didn't suffer permanent brain damage. Really the only 2 I see actually happening with be the Section 31 movie and the Picard one. And, of those, I'm really only wanting the Section 31 movie. I *loved* Picard Season 3. I think it is done and needs to stay that way. Legacy should be the next series in development, if I had a vote.

I'm a purist. Over a period of four years, I tracked down people who worked on the original show and I wrote a book about The Original Series. Star Trek needs the Roddenberry ethos and Roddenberry vision, because without it, what you have is a J.J. Abrams shoot 'em up in outer space. It can certainly be well-crafted, but for me, it's not Trek. None of the new shows are Trek and none of the new films are Trek. If they can't even get a trek disciple like Rick Berman, Michael Piller, or even Gene Junior, then the best they can hope for is to draw attention to the Original Series or The Next Generation. People need to go back to TOS and witness the big bang of the Trek universe. period. Thank you.

Strange New Worlds is about 10 years previous to TOS, not decades. This new "origins" could be the Romulan War and Federation founding.
@dustinherk81249 ай бұрын
one of them better be the original crew from Enterprise, telling the breakdown of the Romulan War, against a very early federation. its been almost 20 years, they've aged up, to an apporopraite time when the war begins. Heck even bring in "Ensign Rivers" to be a commander/captain of one of the later NX ships. Macfarlane is clearly a huge fan of the Trek Franchise. His competitor show, the Orville, is a direct homage to the TNG era; he made TOS era fan films when he was waaay, and fought incredibly hard to be in 2 episodes of Enterprise. He doesn't need to be main cast, but he should get a cameo for that era. Maybe include him in the writers room. some of the best Orville episodes were written by him

You mean the crew from the new films (2009-) ? Yeah, I agree, I didn't get the negative reactions from some of the fans, the new crew was really well chosen, each actor, each and every one of them, did a brilliant job portraying their character, I loved the new films. And it's funny I sometimes heard negative comments from startrek fans, which is surprising, I don't get it, either online or IRL who never watched the original series. I was like... whaat? Why? And they were like oh, this, and that, "Did you watch the original series?" "No, I didn't but this sucks..." right... I mean, sure, I get it, maybe if you're like 5 yrs old and they take your fav crew away, you gonna be upset, but like it's been years since the original series, not to mention most of them complaining didn't watch it, and this reimagining of the original crew is awesome. Anyway, I really liked the new films, hope we get to see more.

@@KingCrab85 Star trek flies fast and loose with Canon. Take Khan for example. in Wrath of khan he tells Chekov "he never forgets a face" when talking to Chekov, except he wasnt crew member until season 2 of TOS. and Khan was in Space Seed, which is season 1. O'brien was originally an Ensign, then a Lt. later he was only a petty officer that never went to Starfleet. Spock said Vulcan has no moon in "The Man Trap" yet several instances through Trek history portrays Vulcan with 2 moons. the franchise claims several different casualty numbers regarding the Eugenics war/ww3. first its 37m according to Spock, yet Voyager claims its 600m, alongside the movie First contact. Then there's the contradiction in s2 of TNG about a research station being allowe dto genetically engineer children on gagarin 4, when the Eugenics war took place is another contradiction. first it was 92-96, then its later 2026, rolling into ww3. then Dr Phlox said it was only 30m casualties. ds9 claimed the eugenics war took place in 2173, when dressing down Dr Bashir and his genetic editing, arguing against allowing him to remain in starfleet when his secret is revealed. so if you want to fly by those rules of contradiction thats your choice. wouldnt be the first time nor the last that things became "tweaked" to fit a narrative.

I think one of the problems with the reboots with Pine & Quinto is their reliance on CGI. I'd really love another film like The Undiscovered Country where it was a very thought provoking plot that was light on the special effects but had extreme stakes. They keep focusing on really crazy end-of-everything concepts that are just a little too out there really. The crew working together is really the strength of the franchise, not shock and awe.

First and far most the reasons Ster Trek was successful was the two main characters or shall I say three, where damn good actors that portrayed there roles at the top caliber performance. The supporting cast added depth and fans endured themselves to the characters and the fact that the environment of outer space fascinates people of end list possibilities. Section 31 needs to happen. And a send off for Picard is completion. JJ Abrams without Chris will not go well unless they can find a Kirk more confident and blonde than Pine. I think Pine kinda sunk that one. Im still waiting for Bourne 6 where Bourne becomes director. Strange New Worlds does need a Movie. With TNG's cliff hangers they technically have like 12. Same with Voyager. SNW, although a bit farsicle needs a Movie. I hope Section 31 involves Burnham and Co.

lets go back to the prime timeline. lets do something like Axanar, stories before Kirk and after Enterprise. Also, stepping away from the s.j.w. b.s. would be really great. I would love to see a human female captain who is smart and strong, but at 120 pounds, realizes she can't really give a beating like a man, so she relies on her wits, her crew, and her phaser set to kill, to solve her physical attacks. A captain real enough that my daughters would think, "I would love to be like that." And not roll their eyes at some silly superhuman female who can last 200 rounds in the ring with David Bautista.

Speaking of movies we need.. WE NEED A "MR. FIX-IT" MOVIE! The Grey Hulk, at night, in a suit! It fits perfectly into the blip years. When attempting to fix his arm, Banner unknowingly creates the Grey Hulk. He thinks he heals and cures himself. Except, at night, he turns into JOE FIX-IT. Joe leaves Banner cryptic messages on the mirror. Have him fight The Leader, (to close the loop) while having to deal with Joe. To win, he must meld Banner, Green Hulk and Grey Hulk into the Hulk he is now. It writes itself! GIVE US "MR. FIX-IT!" Pass it on, please and thank you!

As we all know, Jeri Ryan's character as Seven was dry; like Tuvoc, and unattached, that was slowly relaxing; unlike Tuvoc, her character in Picard was "more human". Voyager & Discovery were refreshing. A different ships and very little mention of 1701 any alphabet. I think it's time for more Trek minus 1701 any alphabet.

I'm vaguely troubled by Picard. Seasons 1 and 2 were connected, and both leading viewers to recognize prejudices that we had somehow accepted and that were bad for us, because when we think we have the excuse ... we can be so very vile to the wrong people. ... but for some reason, the fans of a show that has had a through line of seeking new life and new civilizations - even when the focus was a stationary .... station - for some reason fans don't like what's going on, but we do know we'd all love to see the TNG crew again... So Season 3 was written to give those angry fans what they wanted: a simple classic battle where the bad guy is just bad and we don't have to learn anything, but we do get to squish another bug in the universe. Didn't the Borg join the Federation at the end of Season 2? Don't worry. No one's going to bring that up. We will just have to accept that between Seasons 2 and 3, something messed with the timeline. *shrug So... a movie for Picard? Where will they dare go now...

Actually season 2 is way more emotional and thoughtful than 3. it wraps Guinan, Q, Both and both of the new characters from Season 1. It advanced Picard, Raffi, Seven all as people and gave us a brief look at a particularly scary mirror Picard. C'mon. That's a lot. And I loved season 3 and saw it first. Season 2 is better.

@@crhu319 Pardon, it seems you think you're disagreeing with me, but I concur: Season 3 was a step down. We set down a bunch of characters we had been working on through the first 2 seasons and ... I thought Season 2 was great, except for an apparent lack of recognition of the episodes from Season 5&6 of TNG, and the tension was broken a bit too quickly when Picard was returned to the bridge and, as mentioned, the Borg ... joined the Federation? Right? (This is the part that I'm also saying is so bad with Season 3: Why are the Borg suddenly not in the Federation? I thought the Borg joined the Federation at the end of Season 2...)

@@InimicalWitNot exactly the borg collective itself but only the Jurati variant of the borg, which is a separate entity from the collective, I believe someone had covered a video of all the separate borg entities such as the cooperative, and another video covering the theoretical practicality of the borg joining the federation (Some of the comments also gave their own insights of the other borgs and their own chances of joining), and it can be deduced that the borg seen joining the federation was in fact, NOT the collective. While it was a bit odd that the Jurati rendered no assistance, it may be written off as “potentially hazardous” based on (My personal) theory that the collective borg queen can simply modify the signal used to infect young Starfleet crew members, or generate a new type of signal, to hijack non-collective borg members.

I think there should be one more film in the Kelvin timeline (have to face it, the 2009 reboot blasted off all those actors' careers and they're too expensive now, plus Anton's absence is still so heavy) and it should be a vehicle to returning a new/old hero, David Marcus, to the prime timeline similar to how Harry Kim survived in Voyager. He's a legit connection to TOS, but someone we don't know anything about. I'd like to see it as a great send off for William Shatner's Kirk (returning David to him) unfortunately they killed off Kirk in Generations so I can't fit him in a timeline unless they de-age Kirk to a time before Generations takes place.

if they had a brain they'd incorporate events post Voyager, and a new ship testing the first federation built slip stream drive. Voyager DID return home with a functional slip stream drive for the R&D department to study, learn and test. it was merely decommissioned due to safety reasons. not to mention their knowledge of integration a borg transwarp coil, sensor data using the borg transwarp network (even faster than a borg transwarp coil) warp 10, coaxial warp drive, and sensor data from when the caretaker's array pulled them all the way into the delta quadrant. tons of information for the engineering and science departments to break down and study, to create something better than warp drive for FTL, that doesnt involve interdimensional space mushrooms. Personally I'd love to see the USS Aventine with its slip stream drive be the ship the show/movie revolves around. or something similar in the Vesta class, should the author who originated the idea of the USS Aventine, not let that ship name be used.
