Tapper /valve clearances with DOHC engines can for most cylinders measure up more accurate with the tips of your feeler gauges bent at 30--45 deg .. Accurate measurement of the lobe clearance is often with 1/ cam lobes on compression position for that cylinder 2/ some engines have to have lobe 180deg to valve . NB all of this depends on cam profile / engine maker instructions .

Hey mate ive got a 1hz around 30-45ks ago i noticed a pulsing noise through the intake, took the rocker cover of had the valve clreances checked as its a new to me 80 seires 1hz and the bloke doing it is a trusted mechanic he said that my number 6 cylinder intake vavle clearance is 0mm. Ive only done a few ks since noticing the sound mechanic said shouldnt be a problem once re shimmed to spec. Would you say this sounds about right ? The engine was runing fine then the pulse through intake started. He said all the other clearances are not to bad.
