On May 6th the adventure for six tigers began. Cromwell and Juno accompanied by their four children Raspoetin, Mirza, Rafik and Zita started their journey from FOUR PAWS big cat centre FELIDA in the Netherlands to find a new species-appropriate home in our big cat sanctuary LIONSROCK. Follow their adventures, that took them from Amsterdam via Johannesburg to their final destination: beautiful LIONSROCK!

Tigers are such beautiful animals and they are huge. I wish I could touch one of their paws and compare their paw with my hand. It's wonderful to see them in bigger enclosures and I'm sure they will all be happy in the gigantic enclosure soon. Geez I wish one of the female vets would take a pic with her hand next to a tiger's paw. It's so hard for students to understand how big animals & whales are.

It’s important to note these British zoo lions 🦁 were not malnourished, whipped for tricks, or abused. Zoos were used to show the world animals most people could not have seen in any other situation. The people that love animals usually fall in love with them by seeing the forerunner ambassadors of their breed. Now there are alternative environments established, paid for, and managed by some of those human observers.

You say 'rescued' from a British zoo. British zoos have high standards of animal care, and regulations regarding animal welfare. However a cage is a cage. Maybe 'transferred ' or 'retired' would have been more appropriate. Unless of course you have evidence that the tigers actually were rescued from cruelty or neglect. In which case a crime was being committed and charges should have been made.

Holà Cristina, Rescued or transferred animals have to spend a little time in an enclosure to adapt - that you can see in the video - before being placed in the huge spaces of LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary. Hi there, no they were not released into the wild but into species-appropriate enclosures in our LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa. Unfortunately, big cats like these which were born in captivity or spent most of their lives in captivity cannot be released back into the wild as they have grown accustomed to and dependent on humans. 💔 However our dedicated teams make sure that the animals experience a species-appropriate life and are well cared for! 🐯

Hi, no, that means they have been to their beautiful enclosures in LINOSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary. Big Cats that have spent most of their lives in captivity can rarely be released back into the wild. They become dependent on humans, which endangers their ability to survive in the wild and can lead to them not staying far enough away from humans, thus posing a safety risk to both humans and animals. Furthermore, many of the animals in FOUR PAWS' care were previously kept in extremely bad conditions and therefore developed various behavioural problems. Best, the FOUR PAWS team

Lovely but I have some questions. Do all these big cats live together in one big area at the sanctuary or do they have different enclosures? If so, how big are they? How many do you have and how many tigers are in each on average? I'm assuming that this family of tigers would all be put into the same enclosure together. Thank you for taking care of these majestic animals!! 🥰

@FOURPAWSInternational 2 жыл бұрын
Dear K, all FOUR PAWS sanctuaries adhere to strict animal welfare standards aiming to provide the best possible quality of life and care for all our animals. In order to guarantee an adequate habitat for our big cats, large outdoor enclosures are built on natural ground, encompassing minimum 1 hectare with natural vegetation, diverse terrain, pools, hiding spaces, climbing and scratching opportunities and resting platforms. Rafik, Mirza and Zita live together! Best, the FOUR PAWS team

While they are doing a great job in finding new homes for animals that really live in desperate situations they are not "releasing" them, but simply putting them in bigger enclosures. It is not a bad thing at all since Lionsrock is a very good sanctuary for rescued animals but I would love to see less of the "freedom" propaganda which is simply untrue. They are not rehabilitating them for the wild. They are doing the job that other zoos cannot do. Please support zoos which really try to give their animals the same decent life all around the world. If we want to save these species we need a lot of sanctuaries like that.

After a life in a cage, fed by humans is is impossible to be release in the wild. They have lost the habit of hunting and will go for food to villages or other human settlements. Not being afraid of humans they would be easy targets. The same with bears or other large mammals. The only solution is to be sterilized and release in a sanctuary which is way better than in a small cage. Rehabilitation for the wild is only possible if they did not have contacts with humans.
@alex-bc2jh
@alex-bc2jh 3 жыл бұрын
@@VSP4591 exactly. All I'm saying is sanctuaries and zoos are the same. It's only been promoted like one is superior than the other but it's really not. Both can be good or bad facilities depending on the resources they have. Also breeding endangered species is not necessarily bad, as sanctuaries make it look. People need more clarity on these issues.
@alex-bc2jh
@alex-bc2jh 3 жыл бұрын
@@VSP4591 again, those are all generalizations. Not all zoos are the same, and honestly I have seen circuses with better living conditions than some sanctuaries. All I'm saying is we need to support ALL good facilities that house animals, no matter their title. Sanctuaries are not much more specialized since they heavily rely on volunteers that at times have no specific training. Zoos have trained keepers. Circuses here have severe rules and their existence is based on the health of their animals so they're all healthy and happy. At the same time I support a small sanctuary nearby that is almost a private zoo, has all rescued animals and the people there have a ton of experience and love for them. So you see, it's complex and different in every country. Of course releasing in the wild is not an option. And unfortunately for some species we will only have them in captivity in a few years. That's why we need to support everyone trying to do good for the animals, without giving titles that mean nothing.
@VSP4591
@VSP4591 3 жыл бұрын
@@alex-bc2jh You are right, ALL good facilities should be supported. In my country, Romania, I support a big facility (Libearty) which has more than 100 mature bears that can not be release in the wild. They were taken from various enclosures as zoos, restaurants, hotels, dancing bears etc. As well I support a small facility created by WWF which deals with orphan little bears. They have a method to limit at minimum the contact with the bears and after 2 years they release the bears in the wild. As I know, Four Pawns has sanctuaries in Albania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Austria (only for bears) which are saving a lot of bears from horrific conditions. So, step by step, I can see an improvement in the condition of bears in this part of Europe.

Since tigers r solitary , do they like being with other tigers?
@FOURPAWSInternational
@FOURPAWSInternational 3 жыл бұрын
Dear beach bunny, thanks for the question! Tigers are indeed solitary animals, in the wild it is usually only a mother and cubs that are found together (until the cubs leave home and find their own territories). In a captive setting, things are a little different, but it largely depends on the individuals. For example, siblings that have grown up together are often happy to share a space, or a male and female will often stay together if a bond has formed between them. When they don’t have to compete for space or food, they are more comfortable living together. Best, the FOUR PAWS team
