4:23 I loved this edit. One thing I like about Abridged Vegeta is that, if someone makes a good insult, he doesn't get mad. He respects it. When Nail was insulting him on Namek, he went "Oh, I gotta admit, you are the best challenge I've gotten out of your people yet." When Cell talked out of his ass and said "To be fair, you are a part of my DNA." Vegeta just smiled and went "OOH! That's the closest thing you've done to damage since I got here." Then when Trunks tried to stop Cell from eating 18, Vegeta went "Don't make me come up there and be a parent!" and when Trunks went "First time for everything!" Vegeta went "OHO!!!" Canon Vegeta would have gotten pissed, but Abridged Vegeta loved it. This scene of them flipping each other off made so much sense.

Like he was proud in the original series too when Trunks blasted him in the semi-perfect Cell saga. But abridged Vegeta in the same scene? If he wasn't super pissed off from it, I bet he would actually teared up in joy and pride for finding out that Trunks had it in him. So of course he would see it as bonding moment that Trunks flipped him back.

Yeah. As someone who knew basically nothing about what went on behind the scenes at TFS before watching this series, I was really thrown off when he started showing up because his energy is so...unique. I'm not gonna say something cliche like "in actuality, he's the heart of the series!" because that'd be disrespectful to Lani, Kaiser and everyone else who had a hand in the show; they're all so important to DBZA. But that itself is the greatest praise I can offer to Taka as a writer and as a voice actor, because watching him in these commentaries made me realize just how much of his personality is reflected in the show, just as it is with Lani and Kaiser and that DBZA wouldn't have been nearly as wonderful as it without his participation. The show is just as much Taka's soul as it is everyone else's. And honestly, I respect the hell out of these three for that. These three are literally the coolest nerds I've ever seen.

My head canon is that in trunks’ timeline, Dr. Gero actually finished making them and so the “ Kill Son Goku.mp3 “ audio file kept playing on repeat driving them insane. In our timeline, Gero panic rushed them so the audio file was only working properly on 16. So the cyborgs were corrupted but the Androids weren’t.

Also, on the topic of Jiren, I like him a lot more in the Manga, because he's so much more focused on protecting people and he cares so much more about innocents. When they go to recruit him for the Tournament of Power, not only is he actually rescuing people from essentially a giant monster, but he refuses initially because "If every Pride Trooper goes with you, and something happens here while you're gone? We're fucked. I need to stay here just in case." And he only agrees to join once he finds out the stakes with the universe being erased. But even then he pushes back a bit. But it reinforces his initial *hatred* of Goku for, in his view, causing the whole thing. And he refuses to fight until it comes to Goku and his entourage because he doesn't want to be the reason innocent people are killed/erased. Like, they actually make him a lot cooler of a character.

I think what makes it the most anticlimatic is the ending with Cell, which although makes more sense and Cell did do things with Trunks, his real beef was with the Androids, so him killing them is much more cathartic and feels more of an ending of his story, and him ending Cell feels more like an afterthought (afterall, he never even met THIS Cell before). Off course he had to end him to avoid him coming back to another timeline, it doesn't feel as good as him ending 17 and 18

19:55 I think the biggest problem with Jiren from Dragon Ball Super ISN'T that he has no personality, the signs of a personality are there. The problem is that it is INCONSISTENT. With Jiren, you see some initial personality traits on the surface, but an attempt to try and delve deeper into his character from those small hints is frustrated by a lack of consistency in the writing. "Alright. He's a stern, no-nonsense fighter who takes no interest or pleasure in what's going on in the tournament. Well, that actually tells us a lot. Maybe he's like Gohan and actually hates fighting. Maybe he's saddened and disgusted that all these universes are getting wiped out, while others treat it like a game. It's mere speculation at this point, but we at least know: He gets no pleasure from this, and he's super strong. So that suggests he'll want to end this as quickly as possible right? I mean he's clearly having no fun and is a no-nonsense fighter. No... no he's letting this fight that clearly brings him no interest or pleasure drag on as long as possilbe? Well, hold on. This probably makes sense. He likely has some kind of weakness, or limited stamina. Some reason why he or Belmond would want to hold him back and... No... no... Jiren could easily have won the entire tournament by himself in seconds with no effort whatsoever, so... why is he toying with his food? He's not a sadist like Freeza, he's not excited by a good fight like a Saiyan, he doesn't need to worry about conserving stamina. Everything we've learnt about him says he should have ended the entire tournament the milisecond it started, but he... chooses not to becasue... the plot needed him not to. His actions and his displayed persona don't match up. Then we get his backstory, which doesn't align at all with what we've seen, in fact it actively contradicts it. He's supposedly a lone warrion that cares for nothing but his own power. ...Who joined a team that fights for justice. For every bit of insight we get into Jiren, we get another piece that contradicts it. For an example of how a similar character was done extremely WELL, I point to Cinder Falls from RWBY. Like Jiren, we don't know a lot about her in her early appearences. However, the little hints we DO see are so consistently written (Even in her trauma-induced character arc), that you can actually piece together her entire backstory JUST from her dialogue in the first three seasons (And what Season Four's opening shows us). Everything we see aligns together and reveals a lot more depth than a surface reading will show, due to the consistency of her writing. 24:36 Trunks character arc really does have a powerful lesson. You may fuck up. You may fail. But eventually, someday, if you try and try again, some random Diablos Ex Machina bullshit will kill everyone you love, wipe out your entire timeline, render all your triumphs and failures and sacrifices completely pointless and your story will end with you being sent off by God to live with your time clones so you can be completely forgotten about for the rest of eternity. The End.

I know you guys feel like this is anticlimactic, but I disagree. For what it’s worth, you guys should know that this episode still meant a lot to me and others. Trunks is by far my favourite character in DBZ, I really love his arc of going from an inexperienced try-hard dork to an actual hero. That story arc honestly doesn’t hit as hard in iterations where he doesn’t get to take down the androids, so I’m glad this is the epilogue of season 3. Him getting his happy ending, especially after everything he’s been through, was the cherry on top of this series for me. Thanks for making the episode, and doing the commentary on it.

The theory is that Trunks saying that The Androids were stronger on the present was a mistake of his part. He fought them along side Gohan and thought he knew how strong they were, BUT when 17 decides tô kill Gohan, he said that they were fighting at half strenght to have fun. So The Androids were not stronger in the past, Trunks just didnt knew their full strenght at that time.

Taka's theory about how long Trunks was gone in his timeline actually makes perfect sense with how the time machine ends up working in Super. The same amount of time passed for him between this and Goku Black as between Cell and Universe 6 in the main timeline, which is why the time machine sent him back to that specific point in Super even though it's a different timeline.

I will just say: I have been watching and rewatching DBZA for the last... 5-6 years or so (I didn't know about abridged series before that, except maybe Yugioh Abridged a year prior) and boy, it reignited my love for Dragon Ball. I ended up stopping the anime and going for the manga. And now when I read the manga I just hear your voices. It feels so natural. I also never watched the English dub (I am from Colombia, I watched that anime back in the 90's with the latam dub), so in my head, you are the canon voices and I wouldn't have it any other way, you did a phenomenal job. This is professional level video and audio editing and voice acting. You can see how much Neko improved over the years, including stuff that looked so natural in the videos it rarely looked like they were editions, and I won't leave out the animations added by the team, like the Cell games ad, the control panel in the ship, Nappa's video call with Vegeta, the 3D spaceship, editions to fake namek and many others. You compare DBZA with movies nowadays, where many of them have no love for the story or franchise, and you can see how DBZA stands over many of them. THAT IS LOVE FOR THE STORY, FOR THE CHARACTERS! I hope you are having a ball in the voice acting world nowadays, you do way better than most dubs and native english voice acting I have heard by far. And we can see in these commentary videos you are great guys and deserve the best and love from everyone. We can see that's real. --------------------------------------------------------- Comment related to the episode: 5:55 He should have been away for a few days. According to DBS, he is traveling to a different universe created by time traveling the first time. So the time passes equaly between the two. If he goes to the past for two hours and comes back, two hours have passed in the future timeline. That's how DBS depicts it, if he had gone to the past, spent one week, and then gone back to the future exactly one minute after is departure to the past, that would be a third universe and the original future Bulma would have never seen his son again, plus the androids in that one timeline would have ended up destroying everything. I never completely agreed with how DBS put it because of one small detail: That would mean Trunks went to the future, waited three years while the androids were still destroying every city and then went back to the past to reunite with the crew. And if he didn't, that means we got an additional timeline: The original one where future Trunks comes from (let's call it TL1) , the one where he came to the past to warn them about the androids and generates a new ramificated timeline (TL2) and he never comes to that one (as we would have had to wait three years in the furture), and if he just changed the target date on the time machine to go back to the past just three years after his last trip, TL2 would have gotten a ramification (TL3) which is the timeline where he landed right when they were chasing Dr. Gero. Then again, that may actually be what happened. I remember seeing 3 rings of time during the Samazu saga (I am not sure right now). Which should have been the aditional timeline... or it could have been the additional one Trunks created when he traveled again after escaping from Samazu. I need to re-read that part again.

To be fair, it seems that the current trend with transgender individuals is to try and retroactively pretend it was always the case... even when it makes no sense, because no one, not even the person themselves, had any idea about him/her being Trans at the time. It really annoys me when I'm seeing someone talk about an older movie or TV show and they start calling an actor(or the character they played, which is just wrong) by obviously wrong pronouns because they transitioned like 10 years later. Wanted to wait til the proper ending of the series to say it, but thank you guys so much for all the love, laughs, and effort you put into this series over the years. Definitely a highlight of my college years and beyond (33 now), and between the improvement in the writing since Season 1, the voice acting improvements, and the editing work Scott immersed himself in to give us such a quality product, this series has been so influential to me and my own sense of humor, as well as an inspiration for my own editing I've been doing. These commentaries have been such fun, and I genuinely felt the passion and love you all have for this stuff in Part 3's commentary--damn well making me tear up too with that rendition of "Our Way" (and from how much Chris Ayres meant to you all). I'm looking forward to the Kai commentaries and commentaries on the Dragon ShortZ and eventually HFIL and the Buu Bits. That all said, my one disappointment is that Masako couldn't make it for this finale too, it would've been awesome seeing you all there, but this has been fantastic throughout. Thanks, guys. 🧡

So when I was a kid Dbz Kai came out and me and my cousin was instantly infatuated with its world. I remember looking up things with him that a typical dbz 2000’s rabbit hole would hold (og-gt, ssj 5, amv’s and the works.) Through those endeavors we came across abridged video’s and eventually found you all. We’d gather and watch anytime a new video came out all the way up to the end of the series. It’s was a ride to grow up with this, and even more of one to look back on. Dbza had such a wide reach for all us fans of the original release. I guess all I’m sayin is thanks for this thing you all are doing.

What I really love about this episode is how Cell's been on top throughout the whole season, he's always the prick in total control of the situation and he's got everyone wrapped around his finger. Seeing him in the state he's in here, totally powerless and utterly confused about what the hell is happening to him is so much fun. It's almost a more fitting death to have the script flipped on him without any of the gravitas that he craves.
