How do submarines sink? Are tanks filled with water?

That's exactly what happens. Venting valves are opened at the top of the ballast tanks allowing air to escape from the tanks allowing water to flow in from the bottom of the tanks, reducing its buoyancy and allowing the boat to submerge 😀

I think it's something like 15m but there's a dive trench cut in the middle for this evolution. Traffic passing in an out of The dock system is a headache as it changes the water level. There obviously needs to be a depth of water continually underneath the submarines while in the water.
