Great lesson and thanks even more for showing when things go a little off, so often videos all make it look perfect, and we know it hardly ever is. Thanks and great work

I'm not a trainer. I've had many dogs. My first St Bernard at age 3. My last, a Black Lab ,I know I can never replace.. My dogs were always willing and able to go hunt, or whatever their intention was bred for. I've had Rottweilers that would stop with mouth still open when I commanded stop. 1 thing they all share, some of my best friends. I cared for Lady , my lab ,, 6 months when she lost mobility in her back legs and she refused to die for leaving me.. I can't replace her,, my best friend

Thank you so much for this video, I am working on heeling with my two five months old labs and it is really a relief to hear that it can take months. I was wondering what kind of a leash do you use? Thank you again.

I think I heard you mention a fendawood pup. I have a pup who is from fendawood (David Latham) in England is it that where your dog came from

New to gun dog training, but not new to dog training: a heel for me, and in competition obedience, has the dog sitting when you stop. I notice you keep your dogs standing. Does it matter? Is it more effective to have them stay standing?
@brookstonekennelsperforman16534 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley, for me personally I like to have them standing as I feel they can see better especially in a situation where they need to mark a fall. Only my personal choice, having them sit is perfectly acceptable if that is your personal preference.

Do you implement a shock collar after a few months? I hunt uncontrolled public land so trains, cars and other hunters are constantly around. I feel like my dog is completely different in real life scenarios and wonder if I should trust retrain “heel” or implement a shock collar and see if he learns.

Thanks for watching! For gundogs I recommend of course proven high quality brands, don't go for the cheapest on the shelf those often are full of fillers and other junk. Working dogs need a good balance between protein and fat, and when in hunt season the hard workers will need more calories so plan to increase their daily amount. As for supplements, I only add glucosamine because I want to protect joint cartilage. Usually the good feeds will include enough vitamins and minerals to cover everything else.

Enjoyed the video. When does the cap gun come into play before starting obedience training? Thanks
@migratorygame74005 жыл бұрын
obedience training starts as soon as u get your pup. i wait to use the cap gun until they retrieve a single dummy with no problems. but u can make some noise before u feed them every time u feed them and that will help u when your ready to introduce them to the gun.

Wow thats awesome. I just picked up a retriever mixed with lab. Hes 8.5 weeks old and seems very smart. I do a lot of bird hunting in the last 3 yrs and being in early retirement at 37 i figure I have the time to start training my first gun dog. Your video seemed very similar to the training we used to use on our Rottweilers and dobermans. Im looking forward to fallowing your training videos. Is there a specific age you'd recommend me to start odins' training? I'm told a lot of different things but I see some major potential in this pooch. Thanks again great video..🐕👍👍

Josh's mentality is to let them be a puppy and just do fun things to start with. Help them develop that nose, because that will be huge in the long run. Here are suggestions for the stage you're at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooPHn5WXrNOib8U

My new duck dog is timid to get in the water. What should I do he is 4 months old
@migratorygame74005 жыл бұрын
right now is the best time to get them use to water its warm water. its best to start out in calm shallow water no deeper than their elbows and get in the water with them and just walk around dont worry about retrieving just wanna let them play and check things out. once their good with shallow water then move to deeper water and again get in the water with them looking for chest deep water then once their having fun with that then water where they have to swim and walk with them once the start to swim go back where they can touch and then back out where they swim. at every stage once they are running in the water on their own then u can let them retrieve just keep them real short and build from there. i hope this helps

With my lab she hated water for the first year of her life. So the next year I took her to the pond every day and the first week all I did was walk her around it. The I would throw toys in it and eventually she learned to love it. Now she plunges off of the diving board!🌅🐕

Can you please make a video about all the gear you need to buy for your dog ?
@migratorygame74005 жыл бұрын
To start all u need is a standard collar and leash or just a round leash with a hand loop on one end like he's doing and last use treats or just dog food and when they do what u want treat them. Hope this helps and good luck.

My dog works well on land but when we go to water he wants to the drop the dummy a foot before he gets to me . I caint understand why he does this only when he retrieves it in the water .

A Labrador is a type of retriever just as a Golden or a Chesapeake Bay is.

They don’t look happy, they look scared. The most comfortable place for your dog should be next to you! How do you think a dog enjoys being by your side when you almost strangle them. Horrible to look at.
@JustMe-999a5 жыл бұрын
That doesn't seem anywhere close to a decent level of obedience training. One command should be enough for a dog 1.5 years old.......
